$20 increase for a single in 2011. WTF!

That's the economy for you, unfortunately. Not too surprising really considering how ACen only grows each year in attendance and taxes always increase, and blah blah blah. Not that I get happy when prices increase, Netflix's most recent increase made me real upset. Well, look at this way, it could always be worse... :knocks on wood, carries four leaf clover, pulls out old Troll doll from the 90s:

I have to be honest, I am not at all surprised at the increase. I have been expecting one since 2008. I mean, face facts - Acen is bringing in a lot of people, meaning more rooms are being taken by con goers and less people are paying full price. Not to mention that the hotel no doubt knows about people's rooming habits. They have to make up te money some how. Let us all just be glad that they are not charging us full price...

My e-mail says $169 plus a sales tax of 13%. That rounds it up to $190.97.

It's the confirmation e-mail from Hyatt after I made the purchase. Maybe they're lying to me though.
Jk, seriously though me and everyone else I've seen that's made a reservation has been told $169. I think the site needs to be updated to reflect the change.

Also, I kinda look at it this way: Hyatt got damaged last year because of people doing stupid things during A-Cen, right? I actually almost expected a rate increase because of the incidents last year.

It's $169!!!! LOL. I'm not lying, call up the Hyatt themselves and they will tell you $169! I got my room yesterday by calling them, received a confirmation stating it will be $169/night plus 13% tax. So it will be a total of $190.97 a night whether it's a single, double, triple, or quad. Can a staff member please confirm this so I dont have to keep saying it.

Damage to the Dome This is the damage I know of. I never knew about it until I saw the forums. That's a lot of $$$ though, that sucks.

As for recharging you the increase, I don't see why they would? I hope they wouldn't at least, it wouldn't be fair to us and everyone else who made a reservation at that price. Most *I believe* they can do is possibly start charging people who reserve like tomorrow or any other day after today that rate. Doing that wouldn't be illegal but I assure you it would create some angry customers. Either way though, it's only a $6 increase so I mean it sucks if they did but it really could be a lot worse!

I'm going to have a few roommates to keep costs down and personally if anyone bails out (which they better not do after April 4th, lol!) then I'm probably going to Motel 6.

Yeah. When certain people get outta hand a break stuff. We all pay. That isn't to say the increase is Directly caused by that. It's more then likely inflation but when things get broken and MAPS has to pay for the damages. That money has got to come from somewhere. Just saying it's possible it's that way

Yeah, that's definitely a theory I've had. While I don't want to assume for the worst, I could see a price increase for badges happening. Whether it's to help cover the cost of the dome/other damages or just to increase profits. When something gets bigger, it only gives you more incentive to increase prices. As I've said before, Anime Central since its inception has only grown in attendance and with the mostly positive word of mouth, I doubt it will decrease anytime soon.

Agree; I remember when Acen badges were like 40 dollars or so.

Everything is going to go up: Hotel prices, badges, people, etc. in terms of anime conventions that are popular.

Curious about the prices to the other hotels; did they go up too or are they the same? I was thinking about going to the Double tree this year.

Prices for other hotels (official ACen prices that is) have not yet been released. We are still checking into the discrepancy in pricing as $175 was the official agreement.

Considering how much destruction ACen attendees cause to the hotel every year, this isn't a surprise. If you want the room rates to go back down, encourage people who are being destructive to knock it off when you see it, and report the matter to con staff if possible (if you can give a good enough physical description of them or saw their badge names).
