I've been wearing glasses since I was in preschool, and i'm very concerned wearing contacts. Should I or not? And should I get color contacts? It would help with my cosplay. I can't watch people put them in, and I'm not sure I might be able to. Plus I have dark eyes, so what would you recommend for me?

Hey, I'm doing the same thing! I wear glasses and when I get coloured contacts, they'll be prescribed. I'll be sure to tell you what I used when I get around to it. Also, do your parents not wear contacts? Ask around with family members and stuff about how they work. :3

Glasses wearer here too so don't feel lonely .

Contacts are fun but remember to get you eyes examined before you attempt them. Afterwards if you are comfortable wearing them, remember to buy from a trusted seller.

Also beware of certain types of contacts. Certain ones, rounded?, are not good for your eyes.

Since still on my ps3 I can't give you a list and guide of how to and do's and don'ts but I'll make sure to edit and do it tomorrow.

Well if you do get contacts, get them from somewhere in the United States. Because in the US the dealer HAS to have a prescription for them to get your eye measurements and such, because it's the law and then you know the contacts won't make you blind or something because they don't fit your eyes properly. I know a lot of places in China have contacts and they say "one size fits all" is NOT true. People's eyes are really different and one contact will not fit everyone. But do you know anyone that wears contacts like what Skogkatt said? Maybe they can give you some tips on wearing contacts? Just make sure you don't get contacts from a bad dealer, you don't want to hurt your eyesight! ^_^

I'm going to the eye doctor next month, so I'm considering contacts. I mean, I'm okay with glasses, but they kinda piss me off. My friends always tap them like I'm in a fishbowl and they always fall down my face from my face oils that I come across the day. Plus, they get dirty and you don't even touch them! No one in my family wears contacts except my cousin, but I have no idea how to contact him. Go figure.

Its not bad, I just got contacts, they werent are as hard as i thought they might be. I like glasses better anyways, so i only got contacts for cosplay for which the charcter dosen't wear glasses.

I got dispossible ones that need to be changed every 2 weeks or so (for me they will probably last me months since i will never wear them) they are supper flexible and dont bother me at all. I probably wont get colored ones since rarely do u actully pay attention to someones eyes.

Well that's good to hear! I just hope they don't bother me. But I've also considered contacts for years, and plus i see so many people with dark hair and dark eyes like me, so I've been considering color contacts for a few months. Not real crazy colors like purple or bright orange. I was thinking maybe green, because I like green eyes.

do's and don'ts with contact lenses

Also don't buy circle lenses that extend to cover part of the whites of eyes. You can't buy these in the USA and you can't buy these with prescription. They are actually buyer beware but popular because of Lady Gaga as well as anime character cosplaying.

Well, I'm going to the eye doctor on Tuesday, so if I get any, it'll be prescribed. I was just concerned about if they're challenging or if it's a not-so good idea.

I like the idea of using disposable contacts for cosplay. Do they come in colours?

I have no idea, i was under the impression that color contacts are "hard" contacts.

Darn! I was thinking of getting green color contacts too! I like green eyes! But also, I have astigmatism, so I might not be able to get contacts anyway. Depends what my eye doctor says, but I'm going on Tuesday, so I'll know then. But let's just hope I get what I want. ^_^

Okay guys, when I went to the optometrist today, they said they don't have color contacts in my prescription, and since I have astigmatism, I have to get the Acuvue brand, and I couldn't put them in today. I kept blinking, but I'm going back on friday to try again.

Thanks! It made me so sad! I didn't even get contacts today because I kept blinking when I tried to put them in. I get it to touch my eye, then I couldn't keep my eye open long enough to put it in.

Yea, its tricky, the first time the optometrist put them in for me, then I had to take em out infront of an employee and put them back on. At home I have a hard time putting them on tho, its tricky since I dont used them often I dont get used to it like my cousin, who can put them on without even using a mirror(she uses them daily).

It just takes time to loss that flinching habbit. I try to keep my eye open by spreading it apart as hard as I can but it seem the muscles in my eyelids are stronger than my hand cause I still close them. xD

Some people have to look at it. Some people have to look away from it, you just need to keep practicing till you find what works best for you.

Good luck Chica! I also am not able to get coloured contacts at the moment because of the astigmatism in both eyes. The doctors should let you try other brands to see what your comfortable with. I also use Acuvue and I highly recommend sticking with it. For me it was easy to put in but hard to take out. I have super dry eyes which was the problem. I always end up holding my lid with my left index finger and my bottom with mt middle finger while I use my right hand to put it in. With astigmatism is might take a couple of minutes longer for your eyes to adjust.

Thanks, guys! They told me to practice in a mirror so my eyes will get used to it, but I'm hoping once my eyesight or my astigmatism improves, I'll be able to get color contacts.

I felt the same and I have very sensitive eyes.
It was difficult to put them on at first, but you pick it up fairly quickly.

As for colored ones, they're more expensive if you get them in prescription, and it makes your vision a little blurry on the edges.
Make a bet every day, otherwise you might walk around lucky and never know it.

Really? Never knew that! I went to a Twilight panel once (my cousin made me go, but it was still fun) and Cameron Bright said when had to wear his contacts, there was a halo of wear the color was, so you had to look through the middle and on the sides to see through the halo and be able to see things.

Unfortunately, I doubt your astigmatism will improve. (I have it too and it has to deal with your eye (cornea) being abnormally shaped)... I've been wearing glasses since I was in 5th grade and I switched to contacts when I went into middle school. It really wasn't that bad, but you need to keep up with it. Once I got out of high school and had to pay for everything myself, I went back to glasses because I could not afford contacts.

I can just tell you to keep practicing if you really want contacts. Luckily for me, I'm a natural at putting in contacts. I don't have a problem with touching my eyes. But if you do have a problem, just keep trying. It does get easier. Once you get it on the tip of your finger, use another finger to pull down the bottom of your lid and look up. It's much more easier from there and then once it is on your eye, you can center it on the iris/colored part of your eye by looking straight into a mirror. For some reason that helped me in the beginning.

I'd recommend you getting used to contacts first before considering colored contacts. After you get comfortable with it you can use your prescription to purchase colored contacts online. There are tons of recommendations on cosplay.com from people who have tried them.

Good luck with the contacts and I hope this helps. <3

Oh and with buying colored contacts, always make sure they ask for a prescription. Since you have astigmatism, regular contacts won't fit you.
