This year we will be having child specific panels and workshops directed towards those who are 14 and under. ACen's Children's programming department just recently combined with our panel programming department making us one awesome department. We will be bringing in professional event groups to host children's panels, workshops, story times, and whatever fun events we can think of! And have ACen hosted panels, workshops, etc. AND Hope to have some attendee hosted programming for our younger fans.

This also means panelists may apply for child oriented panels! We encourage our panelists to look at hosting a 14 and under panel or workshop. I'm sure a lot of you remember being their age and a lot of you even started attending ACen as a child. We should encourage their attendance of the convention and make sure they enjoy their time with us just as much as any other attendee while teaching them about anime, manga, and Japanese culture.

Feel free to reply to this topic with any questions, ideas, suggestions, comments etc. I want you all involved in the growth of our new panel programming track for children.

For Children panels pretty much the same policies apply that we have outlined before. Its pretty close to running any other Panel except just a different audience. If you are teaching something specific we look for accountability around that, as in can you prove your expertise with it. This is where we want ideas from everybody on what type of Panels you guys think Children would enjoy.

In 2006 and 2007 I ran a workshop at ACEN for kids in which we built plastic Gundam model kits together.

I made a PowerPoint that was heavily photo and video illustrated, and everyone followed along building a little kit. Those years the kits were supplied by Hobby Link Japan.

If you are interested, I would like to do this again for ACEN 2012. I have already secured sponsorship from another online kit retailer. The main thing I would need from ACEN would be a room with enough tables & chairs to hold about 15-20 (probably more like a dozen max based on past experience) participating kids and their parents, plus a video projector and screen to show the presentation. My 10 year old son would be there to assist me in circulating among the kids to help things go smoothly. A 2-hour time slot would be about right for it.

Please let me know if you'd like to include this for ACEN 2012.

Please email me at Panels@ACen.org which goes to my department head email and we can get your workshop scheduled and set for you. We have 3 workshop sizes this year, 28, 60, and 84. Depending on table space needed for each person we would probably put you in a 60 room so it's not crowded table wise. My husband does modeling and he likes to spread out
