Hello everyone! I can now introduce myself as the new Department head of Panel Programming. I am SO excited for this coming year and what we already have set in our plans for changes and new, fun, exciting things to bring to ACen for you. I will be reviewing policies, and planning out the dates to post soon! Also I will be creating a mailing list that you can join to get updates on panel programming for when applications open, close, changes, etc. Please feel free to contact me at any time if you have any questions, comments or concerns. (or even just want to chat) I've read through the entire feedback forum and spoken to a number of our long time panelists running over my ideas to make sure they would work for you just as much as they will work for us. There will be more to come soon once I'm settled in and gather all of our documents to review.

You are welcome to reply to this topic with ideas, comments, whatever you think I should see stepping into my new position. I want to know what didn't work for you and how it would work better for you. Any ideas you may have INCLUDING panel ideas. My plan is for ACen to host a few of it's own panels this year so I need suggestions for what you would want to attend!

One panel I'd like to recommend is a speed dating/social panel. While I'm sure there would be more guys that are willing than women, I have a feeling there would be a good demand for it. Just a thought though. From the fanboy side of me, I would love to see a panel dedicated specifically to Yu Yu Hakusho (hey, just noticed that October of 1992 will be the 20th anniversary of the television show's launch, why not!!)

Other than that, I really like the panels provided for Anime Central and hope you do well with your new position. Congratulations!

I too would love to see a Yu Yu Hakusho panel. It would be so cool to see if not all but most of the Voice actors.

Well these requests would go to the GR forum. The panels I would like this department to host would not involve guests but more topics that you guys would like to see. Guest related panels are completely dependent on the GR section. For example I would like to see some more artistic panels, painting, adult "crafts", etc. It could be anime related, manga, cultural/educational. No suggestion is a bad suggestion

Would be nice to see a panel on mangas made outside of Japan, like western, korean, chinese, etc. Also would be nice to have a panel on the diversity in anime or video games. Politics in games were interesting, I'd also like to see maybe more about how the west infuences the East and vice versa. Panel's on closet cosplays, or maybe on how to modify older cosplay to be used again. I do have a panel idea to prepose, but I'm waiting till submissions will be open for that.

Well guests or no guests, I'd really like to see Yu Yu Hakusho get a panel and would like to see a Speed Dating event (unless you're saying thats guest relations too.) I highly encourage the return of the geeky dream job panel, I felt that it was a great panel this year. Only thing I can recommend from them is to bring some job listings (if they can, obviously we all know how this economy is.)

Two other ideas:
1. A panel on the least successful anime series to make it to America, whether financially or in the eyes of the fans.
2. Anime Based on Video Games: What's Good, What's Bad?

Speed dating would not be a GR thing, however we've had the speed dating thing before and it was rather...well, unsuccessful. So the best shot at possibly bringing it back might be to think of some ways that it could be made more successful. There's a long time left until next ACen after all to think about it.

I love your suggestions so far folks They're definitely in the direction that I'd like to see the ACen hosted panels go. I would love to see Anime/Manga based panels that bring the cultural aspects into them.

I think it's feasible. I do understand that there's always the guys to girl ratio, but you can go on the Facebook page and hear from lots of males who express an interest. Of course FB is a minority of the want and people may not always commit but that's common for a lot of things. If not Speed Dating, maybe some sort of Social Event which allows people maybe 18 or 21 and older to interact and it's officially sanctioned by the convention. I'm not saying that the events held by the convention aren't fun (hey I've attended 8 ACens, I would t be on here if I didn't enjoy, lol) and you do meet people all over the con be it parties (something that may not be for everyone), panels, artist alley, etc. Soap Bubble is fun, but I'm trying to come up with another alternative.

Aside from all of that, I would love to see the Yu Yu Hakusho panel, guests or no guests! I went to the Sailor Moon one a few years back and while I'm not the biggest fan, the people who were seemed to really enjoy it! If something similar was set up for the YYH fans, I'm sure they'd enjoy it too! I think (don't know for sure) there are enough fans to solely dedicate a panel to those fans.

What I would love to see in panels is some more really educational panels. My very first Acen (2007) there were some great panels on voice acting, and my favorite was "Brush up on your Shakespeare in anime and manga", which dealt with how acting Shakespeare can help with acting in dubs. That was so much fun! That's about all I can think of off the top of my head, but I'll certainly post if I have other ideas.

I'd like to see one on Eternal Sonata, namely the history behind it, the music, etc. Or games in general like that.

Might be nice to have a chat about why dating sims and other Japanese games don't make it to the west.

Translations, namely the stages and changes manga and anime have to go through to convey jokes and other differences to Western audiences.

Dubs in Japan: How Western shows get changed when they go over to Japan or other countries.

Why anime like shows can't make it on Network TV. IE we have shojo like shows on TV that seem to sell well, so why will american audiences not view an anime.

Cosplay and other

Would be nice to see a pannel with the idea of the characters in a show answering questions. IE fans that really know the characters well and can play them. Might be fun to ask like Sailor moon just what she thinks of her costume.

Like I said before cosplay of various sorts, modifications, etc.

Oddly maybe a panel on board games?

I'm more for a social (like tea party or some room interaction) over a game show or auction that I've heard other cons have had, but it would be something. Like Isamu said, I do remember there was one in 2002 as well and seemed popular as well, so some kind of experiment like that would be cool.

I like the sound of a Castlevania panel! I love those games. I like the idea of the "why can't anime be on network TV" panel but despite being a person who really likes anime, I definitely know why it wouldn't. First off, not even regular Cartoon Network airs anime outside of Pokemon and I think Baukugan anymore and Adult Swim has moved all their anime to the real late hours of the night on Saturdays only. I've heard reports that 12 oz. Mouse (quite possibly one of the worst TV shows ever IMO) got better ratings than some quality anime.

I'm stopping myself before I go anymore off-topic but hey if the panel includes a debate, count me in.

Sorry for double post but just had an idea for a panel that hopefully isn't being done. Remember the Comedy Central show "Beat the Geeks?" Either use concept itself or make your own show. Questions can be done in the following categories: Anime, Manga, Wasabi (Japanese food questions), J-Pop/Techno, Video Games, ACen History (questions related to the convention and it's history), and Other Geekiness (for your Dr. Who, Star Trek, Rick Astley, etc. Questions.) Maybe not do it exactly the way, but could be interesting. What do you guys think?

ACen has turned down a character auction before, and will continue to turn it down though I will always listen to ideas and consider them.

The problem with a tea party is we cannot serve food in the Hyatt BUT I can look into if we're allowed to in our other hotels.

I would love some social, active panels. Something to get people talking and involved in a subject they love Dating or other

Has anyone been to a convention that successfully hosted or held a speed dating like panel? I could contact them for pointers or invite the group that hosted it You can reply or message me if you know of one. Thanks!
