I'm attempting to make Renzou Shima's(Ao No Exorcist) monk staff, as seen here: http://www.zerochan.net/583545 and you can kinda see proportions here http://www.zerochan.net/604705#full

I'm completely lost again - I thought I was going to do it a certain way but now that I'm thinking about it it might not work out since the top has an actual ring going through it unlike it being somewhat flat on each side like I've seen in other pictures. Another thing that makes it hard is the decorative bits inside the ring, and the three rings in each half of the ring, and I'm not sure whether I should stick with doing wood or a combination of craft foam, paper mache, and paper clay with paint or buy this wood kit thing with similar shapes for the more knob-ish parts or not. D|
It kinda seems like it's out of my skill range as a complete noob with props(never made one before) and I kinda feel like giving up and just doing a search to have someone make it for me. :x

Does anyone know how I can mainly just do the head of the staff(ring, decorative bits inside, and the six smaller rings along with the top)?

a wood rasp would help lathe a wood dowl if you dont have a lethe then sanded smooth

if your having problems putting the ring in the lathed wood dowl
all ya have to to is cut your brass ring in half
put them in their holes in the rod
slide in the smaller rings
glue the 2 halves together
and hide the cut under the detail bits on the side of the main ring in your pic
(detail made of putty, hot glue or something)

youll have to sand and prime the wood or youll get texture when ya paint it

but the ring in the pic looks like brass (well the whole staff)
or you can buy a gold colored ring
so i wouldnt paint it
