Im actually in the process of making a steampunk nerf sniper rifle, also at the same time working on some nerf guns for other costumes, the only question i have is if you paint your nerf gun if i leave the orange tip alone is that OK?
Know i would have to take it to be checked, not planning on painting it a normal gun color but still am going to leave the orange tip alone.

Here's a good question for everyone. I'll be cosplaying Bossun from Sket Dance. One of his props is a slingshot. What's the best way to approach this. Change the sling with a piece of string? or some other substance? or just remove it all together?

You could use non-elastic plastic tubbing, like that see-through kind. And just fake it when people go to take pitures.

I know for 2012 I have to bring the ones I put together last year, a Proton Pack. I just have to make an up grade this October and add in a sound kit to go with the lights.

I know I would like to get either a Ghost trap of my own made or the Goggles. I am still trying to think of something else to go to ACen as besides a Ghostbuster. Still not sure as I haven't really kept up with anime in the past few years. But I still have plenty of time to work it out.

The only props I'm like, 95% sure I'm bringing is stuff for Keiji Maeda from Sengoku Basara XD;
I want a backup prop so I have a choice between his oversized nodachi(huge sword, making it proportional to myself though since I'm pretty sure that I'm a lot shorter than him), one of his umbrellas(bright yellow or bright red, or something waterproof, doesn't matter I guess), and his giant sake cup thinger from SB3. I also want a Yumekichi but idk how I'm gonna get my hands on a small plush like that, lol.

For Takara(Blue Exorcist) I'm attempting to make his hand puppet, and whatever 1st version of Yukimura Sanada(Sengoku Basara) I do(SB2 Alternate, Gakuen Basara, or his new outfit from the movie) I'll have either his dual jumonji yari or the soccer ball(gakuen basara). Simple stuff, I guess. I've never made props before so Keiji is a handful and if his turns out really nice I'll have it all written down how I did it for any other big-sword characters that my brother or I decide to do.

Wow -- sounds like you have a lot of experience with prop-making. You made Sakura's Star Wand from Cardcaptors? Would you happen to have any pictures of the star wand and Temari's fan? WOAH. Those props you made for TOON LINK sound epic, I think I've actually seen what you are talking about o.o Kudos to you for being so creative and talented with your prop making =] Do you think since you'll be doing Boogiepop without a prop that the cosplay will get less attention than your other ones? You're going to do Alan Gabriel from Big O?! That sounds absolutely amazing. I've always wanted to see someone cosplay him. I haven't seen Hi Hi Puffy Ami Yumi in ages. Playing their songs would be awesome to go along with the cosplay -- I've seen few people do that, add music to their cosplay. Like Darko with his DeadMau head, he gave it glowing eyes and built speakers into the head and was able to play his MP3 through it. I also saw a Rick Astley cosplayer with a boom box playing "Never Gonna Give You Up" everywhere he was walking. People got a kick out of it, I know I did. Senbonzakura, seriously?! So you plan to try and make the blade look like it's being released? That sounds like a very cool idea -- seems kind of risky though and difficult. Hopefully it all works out for you =O Since you know a lot about prop making, think you could give me a tip? I'm looking to make two glowing swords for my Stocking Cosplay -- I already have one from my 2011 cosplay, but the sword bends a lot and the material cracked open. I know how to do the handle, switch, string the LEDS in and everything I'm just looking for a more sturdy material for the sword that will allow light to shine through it, a clear and durable material that would have the LEDS still bright. Got any suggestions for me? The one I have now was made from PVC strips.

I knew my ACen Forum senses were tingling. Let me answer this step-by-step...

1. Well, most of my know-how is making props on the cheap using common materials. I'm still learning myself, and what I do know I try to refine. I can handsew a little, but any big complicated pattern making and sewing...no, not yet. >__> But here's what I've come up with over the years:

*The Sand Village headband and the fan for Temari.

*Wings for Angel L (I've since had to make a new pair because these somehow got accidentally thrown away...)

*Phantom Hourglass for Link and Link's Bombchu. This past ACen I also did Spirit Tracks!Link and made the Spirit Flute.

*1 2 Sakura's Star Wand, which I made collapsible to conform to height rules.

2. What Boogiepop lacks in props, she makes up for in a flashy outfit, so no, I don't think that'll be an issue. Meanwhile, Alan Gabriel's been on and off for about three years; I've just never been able to find a suit with stripes (or a suit I could paint stripes on). And Puffy AmiYumi's been a dream of mine for a while. The best thing is that I already have a minispeaker; I needed one this year when I made the transistor radio for Tima (Metropolis).

3. For Senbonzakura, the strings won't just be trailing out; I'll find a way to safely stash it. This will also make it conform to height rules, since it can be technically 'collapsible'. A friend of mine also agreed to go as Rukia, so I'm making a 'Shirafune' Sode no Shirayuki for her as well (half white blade, half semi-transparent 'ice'.) (She might also go as Ami to my Yumi, so I'm crossing my fingers.)

4. As for your swords, I can't think of anything off the top of my head, but if you want to try the PVC route again, you could reinforce it with polyurethane spray or a hardening clear glaze like Triple Thick. Of course, test it out first so you see how well the materials bond/dry. Good luck!

Sode no Shirayuki and Senbonzakura are coming along nicely (finally found some fake pink petals tonight!), but it seems I won't be making a Suzumebachi; our Soi Fon can't come this year, unfortunately. On the other hand, I'm kinda-sorta-relieved, because yet again, what I thought would be simple is giving me the run-around, particularly this guitar for Yumi. (This is what it should end up looking like.)

Also, I don't know if it counts as props or accessories (probably accessories since I'm WEARING them), but I also made straw sandals out of flip flops and sisal rope.

Armature wires could work too. Leather straps, or something of the like might work too.

My props this year, going for simple. Mew two is getting a ball of energy. Working on either a styrofoam ball or using a purple ball.

Riddler has her cane, and um the I don't know what ring master is using the same cane as the riddler sans the ?

Navi needs a little patching, and I might just paint a sweet potato to be my "ocarina" if I have the time between working out kinks and hiccups in 3 panels I'm part of. Otherwise, Link's props are finished if you don't count the updated costume creation (I'll upload the sword and shield to Tumblr & edit - link the file here later on tonight/in the morning).

My hide gets to wear my favorite 1990s "canada hat" I don each winter (easiest prop ever), and may drag with a Guitar Hero guitar, because my Fender is NOT gonna survive wandering ACen (and it's the wrong shape of guitar at that). Otherwise.... no clue what to prop, bar maybe candy cigarettes & a custom box to match his brand (real ones NEVER).
