Looking for a decent barber or salon

I'm thinking my biggest problem is I'm living in a farm town & the word androgynous isn't in most people's vocabulary. I personally prefer a more gender neutral look, but the last time I said I was going for a androgynous look... the woman stared blankly for the next minute >.<
So I'm setting my sight onto the big city, Chicago. My only problem is aside from going for the ocassional meetup, I know nothing about Chicago. So I was hoping somebody could give me an idea of a few decent places to get a haircut.
Sadly won't be attending ACen 2012. So I'll be taking my cosplay up a notch for 2013.

Actually, it would give me an excuse to hit the Army Surplus if I were to head out there. So feel free to let me know the address.
The only had 2 real reasons I was looking at Chicago.
1) I live only a few miles from a Metra station (I think it's only a 10 minute drive)
2) if I can ever manage to talk with a friend (or his boyfriend) when he's not at work, he happens to know some great salons

What I do now is... use a Phillips Norelco QC5055 shaver to cut my own hair to like 1/5th of an inch every once in a while. I use to give $20 to a local barber every few months (because I have a tendency to over tip and didn't go in that often so I felt bad about it). The trimmer was a bit over $50 I think, so it was paid for in around 6 months just from the cutting cost. It takes me longer than a barber, but I save additional time and money by not having to drive out there and use gas. The nice thing about that specific model is that it can use the internal battery, but when connected to the power cord it uses external power to run the shaver. Often times shavers have a pass-through system where it only charges the battery making the shaver useless even if it is connected to external power with a dud battery.

I've actually had the most trouble with them. Last time I went, I picked something from they're book. Instead of only taking off 2 or 3 inches, she only left me with 3 inches

I'm a guy, just not a very masculine one ^^;
I would do that, but short hair doesn't look good on me. I've had to swear to my boss that I would never do shorter than David Tenant's Doctor haircut cause it looks that horrible.

You know I should really get one of those myself. Right now I'm spending way too much getting basically the same haircut every couple weeks.

Just make sure you get a nice big hand mirror so you can make sure the back of your head isn't a mess.
