We all know prom time is around the same time as ACen. We've also all heard the awkward stories of unknowing kids at their proms running into a mob of cosplayers doing the 'wtf' expression. But what if there was a Prom event at ACen!? It could be a formal dance just like prom, but in character (if you want) and the king and queen can be voted on based on anime couples or something like that.

Just a random idea I thought would be fun to entertain and also I kept seeing that ACen and Prom thread pop up so I thought this would look funny next to it...

That is a REALLY cute idea~ (and yes, I know exactly the whole 'wtf' expressions, because I was an L that people ran into a few years ago...and they thought it was so cute when I complimented dresses...>_>)

I would LOVE to attend something like that next year...heck, I'd even love help running it if anyone would need any help.

Though, with the king and queen, I think it'd be a lot easier to, you know, maybe have people sign up to be voted for, instead of pairings, because, if you think about it, how many people would be there as like...Ed and Winry, and if someone went as the winning pairing that they wouldn't want to be the 'king' and 'queen'. 83

STILL. I'd love to see it~

There used to be something like that, but it hasn't happened in the last couple of years or so minus the king and queen part. I don't like the whole king and queen thing. I see it becoming bias real fast.

Ladies ladies ladies, if you find a man whose only concern about a woman is her breast size, he just may be dumb enough to believe you if you say you have Ds when you have Bs. :thumbup:

Well a high school prom king and queen is biased as well, isn't it?

Another question I have...is, well, would it be formal wear or would it be semi-formal, because I know most proms are formal, but...eh?

And if it was just going to be a dance, couldn't it be kind of be like a charity ball? Kind of like Youmacon does. ^^;;

Like I said before, There used to be a formal dance and I'm pretty sure it was a charity ball or something like that, but I can't recall. It's been a couple of years since there was one. If they do bring it back, I think they should make it a charity ball.

Well, ACen did host a Charity Ball a few years back, ending in 2009 or so, and it seems such an event won't be returning for one reason or another.. Here's a thread I found digging up this topic from a few months back.. Meep!

In any case, while we can't have a "Charity" event per se, I think an additional formal dance would be perfect, and what better idea would there be than making it a Prom, especially for all those poor kids that have to make the decision between their own prom and ACen each year. Looking back on it, I would've rather had mine at ACen anyday~ So all in all, I think this would be a wonderful event! I think like a prom, it should be formal! The definition of semi-formal gets kind of skewed in my opinion (for all those who consider a dress shirt and jeans as such.. >3>;;), so keeping it formal would ensure the prom-like atmosphere.

Also, while I never enjoyed the king and queen tradition of your typical high school prom, like iHane, I feel this would work at ACen as we wouldn't have that popularity bias. The award could possibly go to simply the best dressed couple, or the neatest cosplay.. or.. heck, people can vote for others for whatever reason they choose! Why make it a character or cosplay contest? I dunno, those are just my thoughts on the matter! ^^;;

But anyhow, I absolutely love love love this idea!

Oh, that's kind of sad...I mean. I understand that there's not necessarily room...but still. That's kind of sad.

But yeah~ It'd be a lot of fun~ And of course, the formal or semi-formal was just something to throw out there, simply because I know some people think their costume is 'formal' and it's obviously not. The staff would have to make it VERY clear what they're expecting.

And...honestly, I didn't go to my prom, just because I didn't honestly see the point of it because, well...I hate school dances. xD;; I'd definitely attend a Prom at ACen, though, just because it's a bunch of people I DON'T know having a good time, and a better time than at school.

I know, I know, this is probably going to sound like I'm already thinking about organizing it, and I am, in my head, but I don't plan on acting on it at all. Would it have a theme, like most proms do? (Like my school's prom was like "Moonlight dancing" or something). I mean, we wouldn't even necessarily have to have a 'king' and 'queen', just...take the top three with the most votes for 'best dressed' or 'neatest idea' and give them awards, even if it is just ribbons~

Even if it's not official, we can always just have our own prom in someone's room(s) we really wanted a place :P

Haha I think the theme comes built in with the con but I suppose there could always be one for added amusement.

As for dress code, if it's prom then it would have to be formal! In my mind I already see one of those choreographed dance sequences like in those typical teen movies where the ending of the flick is on prom night. Except this time it would be filled with anime characters. :)

I was sad when the charity ball got cancelled. The first year I was able to go on a Friday I was really looking forward to it...go figure that was the year they stopped having it :P

But I agree an Acen prom would be a lot of fun! I personally like big poofy dresses and the like way more than the rave fur/googles/etc xD

Like I've said in previous threads on this, I'd love to see an ACen formal dance. I don't have much interest in the raves, but I'd do this in a heartbeat. :D
