You have my support. If there's anyway I can help, please let me know. I just don't like to see people suffer. I cannot be a bodyguard, for I am 15 and can't fight to save my life. But best wishes to you!

I want to agree with this in so many ways...In so many others I want to argue it...I think the otaku community is fantastic and I'm not entirely sure there will be a huge problem with this. For the most part, the otaku community is one of the most generous and nicest communities out there. That being said, the concerns you raise are absolutely valid and I can see some guy doing it to prove how "chivalrous" he is in hopes that the woman falls head over heals in love with him.

So I'm not sure I got anywhere with this reply or why I made it...

Exactly. I don't disagree that this community is generous and overall great in many ways. I just see often in things like gatherings where all of this talk happens, but then no one shows up at it. So I was saying her initial request and how she wants to make it as professional as possible should mitigate that from happening. It's not that anyone is at fault, but rather peoples schedules can change in an instant. I missed one gathering I said I would attend personally this year because I ran into some friends (although that was out of 5 or so). The funny thing was the gathering never happened...

The chivalrous aspect, it really fits in with the ideals of a hopeless romantic Anime fan! So with that and no medical knowledge I removed myself from the running. However I think being paid would make it feel more like a job and keep any chivalrous love story intentions out of it. ;) Hence my previous posting.

Honestly guys, I think she is doing the proper thing by offering compensation for time. She wants someone to be completely professional and especially not some guy who will make passes at her (requirement #2). I also assume she doesn't want a fly-by-night person who says they will help, but come April 2012, there is no sign of them and she would be left out in the cold. The compensation should hopefully make the atmosphere professional enough that she can find someone who will act professional and give such a commitment.

I understand why she is offering the compensation, but honestly I don't see the need. If someone needs help, I feel like helping it doesn't matter who they are. I offer my assistance with all the hope of providing someone who without it would have a less than satisfactory time. Sure there is a better likelihood of more professional work from some people after compensation, but don't count out how some of us are just nice people. Like I said, I just like helping people.

Because getting a bf purely for the sake of having a bf is a terrible idea.

I'm more shocked at the cost offered. That would basically cover my entire budget if I did this the entire weekend since I usually only have 300 dollars cash on me or in my room during a con. If she's adamant about paying, then I would probably accept but I'm not really comfortable taking a huge amount of money to do so. If I HAD to be paid, I would take less than was offered.

And even so with my future plans who knows if I'll even be able to make it back in '12?

As explained before. My friends are mostly women-- thinner and more frail than me, freak out when I have an anxiety attack, raise my anxiety by freaking out, freak out and do not know how to instantly respond in case of anything and have no idea what to do when I faint u__u; It happens more often than not. I'm becoming physically weaker. I've even had trouble at work with it and have had my moments where I cannot breathe worth anything and I get scared when it happens and my friend would just watch me, asking if I was okay and not really get help T///T I was lucky to be with a petty officer from the navy, a rank E-5 who kind of reacted quickly and remained calm, being the easy going guy he was. He put pressure on my hand to stop the blood, squeezing it really tightly and cleaned it off, covered it with a cloth when he did that and rushed me down to the midway. He was able to steer some room for us in a crowded elevator and direct people out of my way. When I couldn't breathe too he tried to calm me down and cover my face. I went to a photoshoot later in the evening and I lost a lot of my memory of what happened but from what I was told, I fainted and he was able to catch me and escort me back to my room. He had said something about other times I almost fainted and I was stubborn enough to go back out to the convention (which I had fun) and ended up in the condition I was.

My outfit was on too tight too when I apparently fainted at the Panty &; Stocking photoshoot Saturday night and I wasn't breathing correctly, so he unzipped the back of it for me and set me in bed, had his brother watch me in his room in case of anything. Thats what I pretty much remember. I lost a lot of my memory after that and couldnt remember why my hand was bandaged when I woke up. They had to explain the events of the day to me. I kind of wandered out too and being without memory as I was-- I didnt remember a certain someone who was trying to get me sexually and he went and tried to make a move, it scared me because he was trying to convince me of something that didnt happen because he was messing with my memory. That weekend was so drama filled, but so fun too that I just cannot pass up ACEN. To be more literal, this is more of a guardian position I am hiring for. Be able to watch out for my medical conditions and just be able to get other men to back off from me. (One had even asked me to be his "master" and one of the guys at the convention tried cuffing me in a serious manner, not joking) Not to mention-- I had a little incident happen in the dealers room that set my PTSD out of wack and made me extremely upset and rose my anxiety level really high.

Otherwise, my week at ACEN was fantastic =D I didn't want to really look at the negatives of things. I figure I should be prepared for this year though. Oh and about the navy guy who was with me the first time, I had a few little minor issues with that and just feel like I really kind of took up his ACEN, not to mention he wasn't with me when a lot of really bad things happened that I was luckily able to evade. Also to answer some earlier statements, people mentioned a boyfriend to do that sort of thing. Thing is, not even my lovers in the past have been able to handle my condition in a seemingly professional manner and they tend to care way too much to where they freak out and make things worse on my end. I'm not looking for someone to ACT chivalrous. I'm just looking to stay well that weekend and have a safe, fun time =] About everyone who has messaged me and taken interest, given me information I have decided I will hire on THREE people. One for each day. (Or even more if they cannot be around for the hours I'll need) I'll be hiring the three best I see fit for handling the situation that meet my requirements the best. With those three people though, I will set up back up people in case anyone drops out ^__^ I'm currently checking out everyone who has applied for the position VIA message or comment. As the con draws more near for next year I will have a solid schedule set.

I know this is going to sound harsh, but why go if you are very "weak"? If you are prone to fainting I would just stay home. With ACen getting bigger and you getting "weaker" (these are your words by the way), I would just stay home. If I were in your position I would stay home where I know I will be safe rather than go and possibly faint often or get sexually harassed. I'm sorry if this sounds harsh, but I would rather you be safe at home than in danger at ACen.

I know. But the thing is, (like I mentioned so many times earlier) ACEN was one of the happiest times of my life. A lot of the day I seem to be okay and I tend to be able to manage myself and can be full of energy but there are moments that I can just become instantly exhausted, have intense nerve pains or just have a hard time breathing etc. I work and this happens all the time, I can be energetic or have days where I struggle to keep myself conscious at work. I really love travel, its one of my favorite things to do and plus going to anime conventions has been a dream of mine since I was a child. I don't want to be treated differently from normal people or be stopped from accomplishing my dreams just because of said condition. It doesn't sound harsh ^^ I'm determined to keep my promise to my friends and to my own self, to attend next year and any year I can and have a great time. This is basically a precautionary measure as well as it is fun to keep me safe and able to enjoy the con. By the way, I have chosen three people and I'm working on choosing back-ups, making arrangements etc.

I bid you good luck on your search. As a 6'4'' black guy, I can fit the profile of a bodyguard pretty good, but I have no medical training, nor any sort of bodyguard experience. Sides like many others (even tho it's explained why) I personally wouldn't take payment, I'd do this stuff for free.

Thank you so much! I have three very experienced, seemingly kind, loyal people who don't appear to be any sort of threat to my safety as well as a few others who have offered to be around me etc. My search is done now and will only change if people cannot make it, get in contact with me just before the con, etc. =]

Plus, sometimes exposure is the best treatment. I would assume she is looking to get past her condition and sometimes exposure can go a long ways to helping it out. Its a slow process though and going with someone she feels safe with is a good first step.

I would like to do it (I'd do it for free), but I sadly don't meet some of the requirements and it would be a bit of a problem since I have my own medical condition to monitor and I know how it feels like.

That is precisely what I am trying to do. I try to be as strong as possible, I often push myself past my limits but I'm trying to do all I can in order to overcome my physical condition and my depression, anxiety, and PTSD. I'm a very outgoing person and take a lot of risks but in doing so I also endanger myself more T__T I'm glad you understand what I am going for =] I believe exposure really does help. Thank you everyone for being so kind, concerned and helpful... I deeply appreciate it from the bottom of my heart.

I agree with him too. Everyone has problems and with time and effort they can limit or surpass if they are willing. It's good that you are pushing yourself to do something you deep down love doing. ^_^

My ex went through some of the same problems as you experience. Not quite on the same level of you it would appear, but I've done my research on the subject to say the least. Its not an easy road and recovery will likely take years of hard work. I wish you the best of luck with things. If you ever need to talk some time, you are welcome to shoot me a message. I mean I wasn't just handed my forum title for no reason, haha.

I can be totally platonic and chivalrous. Unfortunately, I want to enjoy my con and not have to tag along with someone the whole time. On the other hand, if I see some person being a douche bag to another, I will probably step in and or call for IRT. :D

I've taken a few MCMAP classes (Marine Corps Martial Arts) and am fully trained in the use of deadly force.

But it looks like you are taken care of.
