While back again in Chicago for ACEN this past year and when driving up River Road, I happened to catch glimpse of what I would later come to know as the upcoming Rivers Casino. This casino has convinced me to come back again for the upteenth year to ACEN and looks like an interesting place to hang out when just wanting to get away from the hotel for a little bit.

In looking at their website, they look to open in July 2011, barring delays/setbacks/pasta.

They also have a listing of restaurants/venues, one of which sounds particularly interesting..especially to other congoers.

The List:
• Hugo's Frog Bar and Chop House
Operated by the Gibson’s Restaurant Group, Hugo’s Frog Bar and Chop House features Gibson’s' prime steaks and chops, fresh seafood and an extensive wine list.

• Lotus Lounge
Located right in the center of the casino floor, Lotus provides a relaxing, sophisticated setting with live piano or jazz music and a view of the exciting casino action.

• Cube
A multipurpose venue, Cube has a state of the art A/V system which allows Cube to easily transform from a great sports bar, to a live performance venue, or happening night club. Cube features a large outdoor patio with a fireplace and ten foot green wall. [Comment: Green Wall?]

• Coffee Spot
A contemporary coffee shop featuring hand crafted coffee drinks and freshly made sandwiches, pastries and desserts.

• Canopy Buffet
Canopy Buffet features freshly prepared cuisine cooked right in front of the guest at nine different stations. The dining room feels like a warm, vibrant outdoor atrium, and features two natural skylights and 2 live green walls. [Comment: Again, green walls?]

• FLIPT
Flipt is a quick casual grill serving freshly made burgers, sandwiches, fries and shakes.

• MianBar
An Asian noodle shop featuring freshly prepared, authentic dim sum, noodles, and rice dishes. [Comment: I can see a cosplay trip here.]

Hopefully some local con folks can check this place out and report when it eventually opens.

(As mentioned with other people, Cowboy Bebop cosplay meetup at some of the gambling tables...? [depends on dress code])

I doubt cosplay would be allowed there for security reasons.

My group and I live in Park Ridge, so the casino is actually slightly closer than the convention was. We've been following the development of this casino for a few years and are eagerly awaiting its grand opening. The artist's renderings make it look far nicer than many of the non-Vegas casinos I've been to, and the presence of Hugo's Frog Bar will be quite nice, especially since they'll have Gibson's steaks on the menu. While we will undoubtedly rush in for the grand opening (since the slots will probably be SUPER loose to encourage future visits), my friends and I were also discussing the possibility of stopping in during future Acens, which promises to be quite insane indeed.

I'll report back sometime in July once we've visited / are millionaires.

i remember when the casino ues to be apart of rosemont, but then they found out that the mob had ahand in it or something like that and then give it to des planes, which is better for them since it kind of a blue collor town and it need the money more then rosemount which already have the convention hall and the allstate arena that have events almost every day.

i am trying to apply for a job there and i heard from a local cab driver which may be true of flase is that resadents of des planes, park ridge, and another town close by is getting first dips on jobs.

i say we all dress up as team rocket. they own a casino in red and blue.

i got a call this afternoon, i have a interview tomarrow ar 11 for a position in the food service brunch, i really want to be a bartender but i figure i start low as a waiter or busser. hardest part will be avoiding the consino floor, but i am planing everyweek after i get my check i put 20$ on black.

ok update, last friday i did my orientation for rules and stuff, and the day after worked on a training on the laws and code of serving drinks. tomarrow i start a 2 week long training all build up to a grand opening in mid july.

so far even if my only jobs was jewel and a hospital, it such nice to work in a place with real money behind it.

i can talk breafly about the restaurants.

Hugo's Frog Bar and Chop House is Gibson own, so expect to pay big. the buffet is small protions but have almost everything from pizza to sushi. the MianBar is invite only at this time, but the food there is real Japanese cusines and not Americanized crap. flipt is high end burgers.

UPDATE: job is doing great, but i should warn you the min bid are petty high depending on the time and day, on saturday night tables go from 15 to 20 and on the 3 day weekend i saw 50$, so don't come thinking there be dollor tables, the slots are petty normal, pennies to dollors, and the beer is petty reasonable, 5$ for corona and hinny, 4 for miller lite.

oh and other news my bosses are amsing people, the bartenders are great expct for a few bad apples. the waitresses get to my nerves a few times since when they get into where imainly work there go into very nice lady mode, but i also more forgiving to them since they deal with some creepy assholes almost every hour.

one waitress was petty mush was to give this guy tea with her breast milk in it, so i can forgive them to be catty.

Pretty fun place to go to. A lot of people.
Bar, Chinese food, greasy spoon, coffee shop, and buffet.
I went at 2am on a Sunday morning with my suit on.
Too bad I'm not much of a gambler.
