So I was chatting with a friend and we started talking about times we were caught or almost caught with "naughty" manga either at school or work. Share your embarrassing (or potentially embarrassing if you managed not to get caught) manga moments. (Can apply to anime as well ^^)

Two of my stories:

1. I was reading Ranma 1/2 while in school. For those who don't know the story, when the main guy character is hit with water he turns into a girl. I got to one of these parts (and of course he could care less about covering his female parts, so there's boobs all over the page) and my teacher HAD to walk by right as I got to that page. Thankfully it was a really cool teacher and he didn't mind, but he gave me crap about it the rest of the year saying how I liked "anime porn" (He wasn't one of those all-anime-is-porn people, he just loved giving me a hard time)

2. I was reading Absolute Boyfriend by Yuu Watase, which I knew nothing about except what the back cover said. Basically the description on the back just says the main girl orders the perfect boyfriend from a strange company. Start reading in the middle of school to find the whole thing filled with naked men xD (Thankfully, Watase is good at covering up the naughty bits, but still not the best thing to have in class!) Thankfully I didn't get caught with that one.

Once when I was 11 or 10, I was reading Kitchen Princess at my local BORDERS.
It was on the volume when Sora got hit by a truck and was on his death bed dying.
It was so sad for me, that I started crying so hard that a whole bunch of people were looking at me like: "What's wrong with that girl...?"

Another time was when I was on the last episode of Code Geass R2, the very last part where Suzaku ran his sword through Leluoch.
I started crying, and that's RIGHT when my mom came in the room. xD
It sorta ruined the moment... ; A ;

I had plenty of embarrassing moments back in high school with Ranma 1/2 lol. I let someone read one once, and he spread the word about there being nudity to everyone, so a lot of people tried to hassle me about it. Luckily for me, I'm pretty good at ignoring people, and they stopped within a month, although I did have a teacher try to get all manga banned from the school based on Ranma... he failed, lol.

I was very aware that someone, my older brother, was looking at me while there was a naked figure on my screen. Awkward.

4 years ago I was standing in borders looking at the manga cause I wanted the next volume of Sensual Phrase when this girl started talking to me cause I had a Kyo shirt on and she had a Kyo messenger. So we were standing there talking and I was waiting for her to leave so I could grab it. I mentioned I was going to fye next so she was waiting for me. Finally she asked if I was ready and I grabbed the book and explained that I love smutty shoujo and yaoi. She was indifferent. I panicked for nothing. Now she is one of my best buddies and this'll be the 4th acen I've gone to with her.

My father opened my mail once and opened Spring Fever (yaoi) to the only bj in the entire freaking manga. That was embarrassing and difficult to explain...

I was at work reading Berserk. I started crying when Guts found Griffith in the kings dungeon all mangled... I work at a circ desk in the front of a library. I also cried while reading the Battle Royale manga when they killed off Mimura and Hiroki, when Ageha died in Basara. I probably shouldn't read manga at work...

Was a bigger pervert (is that possible?) back when I was a teenager. Reading a hardcore yaoi fanfiction and my mom caught me. Complained about how I was underage and read it herself.

She said it was the hottest thing ever.

I was like O_O for the whole day.

FYI the fic was Claimed by B-chan a DBZ yaoi fic that is 50 pages long and has Goten/Trunks/Goten and Goku/Vegeta and about four lemons.

Another one was when I was reading some hentai manga...in Borders. One guy saw it and his face was priceless.

This also reminds me of the time my dad took my to pick up some new manga... He got tired of waiting for me to get what I wanted, and decided to pick one up to see what exactly they were. All I know is that he grabbed one, and found a sex scene nearly instantly... now instant of being like a lot of fathers and quickly putting the book down, my dad instantly said very loudly, "hey look at this" and showed it to me... I was quite weirded out by that lol.

My mom was going to buy me Manga for Christmas when I was in Jr high, until she went to borders and browsed through some and found "naughty" scenes. From that point on she did not approve of me reading Manga until recently . I'm currently 21 and bought "Hot Gimmick" which has some "naughty" scenes in it, she looks over my shoulder and says "o_o; Are you reading this for some sensual ideas to practice on your future boyfriend?"

It was the second manga series I physically bought (besides reading online) and lots of non-anime people were like "what the heck is this??". I've learned to never bother to try and tell people what it's about or how great the action is b/c most can't see through the excessive fan service.

Btw, the joke doesn't work for the American release of the series because it's called Strawberry 100%.

In eighth grade, in return for me lending her my Sailor Moon collection, my friend started lending me her Chobits collection. We were sitting in gym class, and she passes the books to me and whispers to me not to read them until I get home. Being impatient, of course, I tear into them right away.

Only to get weird looks the rest of the class because my face was so red. CLAMP, gotta love 'em. >_>

Another story was from when I was in Japan. Our tour group stopped at a rest stop just outside Tokyo, and I was looking for snacks when, across the store, I saw a small group gathered around a newsstand. Turned out they had manga, so I was like, "Awesome. I can pick up some untranslated manga." I go over there after everyone disperses (rather quickly, I might add, though it never occurs to me WHY they dispersed so quickly) and pick up one of the books they dropped.

Only to find out it was uncensored hentai. >_< It wasn't even wrapped up like they do the (comparatively LESS) explicit stuff here.

Haha, this applies to me. I was reading Negima! on the CTA Red Line on my way to a Cubs game. I can't remember what volume it was... maybe 7 or 8, where it's about 10 or so pages of fanservice.

Haha, the stories of everyone's parents reminded me of another story. xD

I was in Suncoast because I had a gift card and wanted to buy some anime. My mom came with me. Trying to be helpful, she starts pointing stuff out. Then, she goes to a wall with dvds hidden by play boy bunny plastic sheets.
Mom: What's this? *starts to move hider things*
Me: No!
Mom: W-what is this? this is terrible! *starts flipping through hentai*
Me: Mom, that's hentai...anime porn. I'm not here for those.
She continued to say how terrible and gross they were while STILL LOOKING THROUGH THEM. I wanted to laugh and cry at the same time.

My old computer died so I had to buy a new one and transfer all the data to the new one.

Now the problem is I had a lot of...'stuff' on it so I was kinda embarrassed for the poor tech guys.

another one was I wanted to buy doujinshi and I had to provide the links to the proxies. The problem was I wanted...really graphic ones. Nippon Shonen Princess and Hetalia doujinshi. Also Cancel A Format BL game for Hetalia.

I wanted to die giving them the Tora links.

My dad once bought me some manga from a japanese store somewhere. (he knows i'm into it and learning japanese, so he thought i could try translating or something) So i opened one of the books and realized that he probably didn't flip through the pages because it turned out to be a yuri-esque manga. as in none of the hardcore stuff but you could tell something was going on between characters. I was blushing so bad.

This was my senior year. My history teacher back in high school was interested in manga. She had not read anything yet or watched anything yet. I was the president of the anime club, so she asked me what I thought was good. Of course, I named off a couple mainstream things that I knew were totally void of the yaoi and the yuri and the fanservice. She had me write a list. I was very careful with what I chose. No one wants their history teacher/debate coach to think they are a pervert, right?

So my sister gave her a couple of the books I had to borrow. Among them was Axis Powers Hetalia and the first volume of Kuroshitsuji. While neither of these are straight up yaoi, there sure are plenty of hints! For you Kuroshitsuji fans, you are aware of the corset scene, no? And for you Hetalia fans, you know all the yaoi hints going on up in there! The Chibi-talia too!

In my junior year, I had just found Axis Powers Hetalia. Not knowing of the yaoi hints but incredibly enthusiastic, I told my history teacher that she ought to watch it. I gave her the name and the link to where she could find it. When I got home that day and saw Chibi-talia I could have died. Much to my relief, she switched to a different school the next year...

[Not to say that I am anti-yaoi. Heck, look at my cosplay list! I am just a closet yaoi fan outside the cons and clubs~ XD]

Oh man, I remember all my friends in high school teasing me about reading "cartoon porno". Because Inuyasha and Fushigi Yuugi are so hardcore, ya know? Then I would proceed to tell them of Ranma's gender switching antics and that was usually too much for them so they stopped, lol. What's funny (sad?) is the person who would tease me about it the most is also the one who religiously watched Dragonball Z and Gundam Wing before I'd even heard of anime.

Anyway, a specific "oops" moment was when I was reading Inuyasha in school and getting to the part where Kikyo first gets revived. Yeah, she was naked. Not the sort of thing you want your teacher to see you reading, so I decided that was a good place to stop and finish at home.

By the time I started reading translated comics (around 1998), I could name several western comics ranging from slightly NSFW to very NSFW. And I had looked at more than a few books of photography and visual arts which weren't worksafe. All of this was stuff I discovered from browsing local libraries and bookstores. So when I started borrowing Ranma 1/2 trade paperbacks, nothing surprised me.

Haven't read many comics in public. Every now and then I'll have a trade paperback with me for a train or bus ride. But I figure that if I'm reading the comic for the narrative, then I need a quiet place to appreciate it. So there's only been a few times when someone noticed me reading Detroit Metal City or perhaps Hayate the Combat Butler.

Many of the video games I've played in public are kinda bland and inoffensive. But since I'm an adult, if I want to play the patched versions of Tokimemo Girls Side or Loveplus on trains and buses, then who's gonna stop me?

The biggest one I've had was in high school when my friend in study hall took my Ghost in the Shell manga and started to look through it. He flipped to the lesbian splash scene (not knowing it was in Ghost in the Shell manga) and my friend sitting behind me who could easily see the book from how we were sitting was like "are they having sex?" and I'm like "well, it's cybersex and they have to all be females because long story short it's their stimulation of their brain and similar sense organs." And my friend said "so you like women having sex, okay," loud enough so everyone in the study hall heard it. I mean it wasn't the whole women having sex that got me, it was more her saying it so loudly in a absolute quiet study hall. O__O but I still think it's pretty funny. XD I was then deemed in that study hall for the rest of the year (it was an inside joke) as "dirty comic girl" and all the guys in that study hall would always joke with me saying "hey do you have that lesbian book again?" Oh, high school.

So about a few months ago while on my commute on the CTA Red Line to school (cue imagination of students taking the train) and I decided to read Puella Magi Kazumi Magica on my phone (Manga7 app for Windows Phone 7 if you're curious) since my commute is 45 minutes-ish from Howard to downtown. I wasn't prepared for the first few pages of Kazumi at all especially since there's someone sitting next to me and there's people in the seat behind me. I had to swipe to the next few pages to avoid weird looks if someone peeked despite me having a weird look when I saw it.



If you're curious about what Kazumi's outfit looks like, just look at the cover and then read the first few pages.

Sophomore year (highschool), the power port on my laptop decided to break. The guy that normally yeah I break everything fixed my laptop wasnt just my downstairs neighbor, but my dads friend. And I had some doujinshi and stuff not just saved on it, but sitting RIGHT THERE on the desktop.


But after a week I had to suck it up because it was cutting into my gaming time

It was about three years ago and I was just on my computer minding my own business and I was looking at some douji that had yaoi in it and my dad suddenly came up to our computer desk to get an cord or something. He sees the screen and OF COURSE it's during the part that makes it REAL awkward ;3 and he says "WHAT IS THAT!" and he startles me and I say "oh, I have no idea! I was looking for a drawing reference and this just popped up!" and I closed the window. And all my dad says is "you're weird." From then on I never read douji with people at home again. XD

Well, it's not my moment but a friend of mine had a manga moment in high school. He was in biology class and while they were supposed to be silently reading their chapter in class, he was instead reading Love Hina.

The instructor saw him and yelled out, "Will you stop reading your anime porn and read the book instead". I wasn't there but I can only imagine how embarrassed my friend was (he's quite shy).

A moment of mine (though it was anime not manga) was while I was watching Berserk. I had watched most of the series and was on one of the final episodes of the last disc. Sure, it was bloody and gore-filled up to that point (with some nudity) but nothing too bad. I was watching it in my living room cause I didn't expect anything too bad to happen. Sure enough, right as all hell breaks loose and some demons are raping people, my father walks into the room. That was a VERY awkward moment.

i guess the only manga moment i've had was way back in like 2006 when i was at the library with my dad and sister. i was looking throught their collection, and while i was at it, my dad picked up a volume of ranma, and sure enough it was among the most nudity filled volumes of the series. he then proceeded to think of all manga as lite porn and hated when i read it.
