I'm not surprised to see that a girl would grow up seeing her brother's LAN parties and CoD sessions, assume that that's what boys like, learn where guys gather, and be social in those places while using a pink controller and tossing around a few terms she picked up off the internet (much like asking about whatever football news was on ESPN an hour ago). It's almost SOP, and to see it translated into the gaming scene almost lends legitimacy to the gamer subculture, lifting it out of the basement a little.
/okay, that was rife with stereotyping, I know, but I'm letting it go because we seem to be talking about an over-arching phenomenon, which is by its nature made of stereotypes. Your mileage may, of course, vary
