As far as I know, Bolo Yeung has only been in ridiculous action movies. Some of his older flicks, including one simply entitled Bolo, are absolutely absurd. Bloodsport is clearly the superior movie though.

On a separate note, I really want to say that Thunderbolt is my #1 Jackie Chan movie. The fight scene in the casino is one of the greatest fights I've ever seen.

"Someday I'll fight in the kumite and make my father proud"... most random and ridiculous line in the movie. Why would Shingo say that after getting beat up in school!??

Because he was weak and thought someday he would eventually get good enough for the ultimate martial arts tournament?

That kid in the flashback had no resemblance to Van Damme, it was distracting lol

I particularly enjoyed how that kid could barely speak his lines properly let alone act like someone who was about to be the winner of a kumite later in his life. The kid was expressionless and super vanilla. It was awesome.

The kid's name is Pierre Rafini who has basically done nothing but Bloodsport according to IMDB. I searched his name a bit and found this Facebook profile. Nothing really confirms that this is actually him, but just look at this guys face. Can't you sort of see it and also hear him saying something like, "I WASN'T GOING TO STEAL IT!" in some crazy French broken accent?

haha! I like how the Asian kid kicks him in the stomach!
The flashback starts at 4:55.

on a side note: has anyone seen Van Damm in The Quest?
It's pretty much the same movie except it takes place in the 20's.
It was after all, originally written by the real Frank Dux.
"I'm Maxie Devine!!!"

The Quest is definitely no Bloodsport. Despite being pretty much the same, it can't compare. The characters clearly weren't as good. I mean, how can the buddy & villain (Jackson, Chong Li) relationships ever be bested??

True but Maxie Devine was a pretty awesome buddy with his ole timey boxing style and all.

The photo does look like him. Although he looks a bit old. The kid should be in his mid 30's now.

Haha, wishful thinking I guess got the best of me. I thought maybe I found the mythical young Frank Dux! :-/

Maxie Devine was pretty decent. But ya, Jackson takes the cake as ultimate friend. I mean come on! That ending of Bloodsport when Jackson was in the hospital and Frank just won the kumite and was like...

*Frank Dux leans over Ray Jackson's hospital bed and in a manly way grabs his hand while handing Jackson back his bandana looking intently in his eyes*

JACKSON: Anytime. Anyplace. Anywhere. If you ever need me... I'll be there.

*Dramatic pause*

DUX: I love you my friend.

*Frank leans in and give an awkwardly long kiss to Jackson's forehead*

JACKSON: Me too.

I don't understand how this movie hasn't won best film of all time with dialog like that in it.

Let's not forget Forest Whitaker and that other guy, who were two of the worst Army Criminal Investigation Division members ever. Forest Whitaker is bad@$$.

And yes, I had to look up what their characters' official titles were in the movie. I originally thought that they were FBI agents for some reason...

I wrote a review for this movie on an old website I had, this was my movie quotes section:

*Army guy says to his supervisor after losing Dux: "I waited, he disappeared...one minute he was in it, next he wasn't"

*Flash back to Dux and Shingo training: "That's all for today (master), not yet (Dux)..., why don't you quit round eye? (Shingo) ...not yet (Dux)"

*Jackson on the train talking to a random girl: "Hey babe want to go out with a big man? No, too handsome for you huh hunny?"

*Mr Lynn (watches after Dux and Jackson): "Once you step out of the suburbs into the narrow corridors, it's time to protect your nuts guys."

*Dux has to perform the Dim Mak brick breaking technique, he does it then they say "we honor you invitation", jackson says "no sh** you honor his invitation..."

*Dux has a run-in with middle eastern fighters: "He is the american sh** head who makes tricks with bricks!" My favorite quote referring to the dim mak technique

Missed one:
Once Dux and Jackson found out that they were both there for the Kumite, Jackson said sarcastically to Dux "Aren't you a little young for full contact?" and Dux replied "Aren't you a little old for video games?".

Still wondering how JCVD got dressed so fast after hooking up with Janice. He went from underwear to fully dressed walking out the door in <8 seconds. Magician anyone?

I loved this movie, and am a fan of JCVD and Bolo Yeung... But Frank Dux is a total fraud, and a bit of a jerk in person. I sincerely wish I had never met him, and am glad he's blacklisted from just about every martial arts function in North America. JCVD has some legit amateur experience, and Bolo... Bolo is the lone survivor of the asteroid collision, that wiped out the dinosaurs. On my best day, and his worst, Bolo Yeung would still destroy me in a fight.

^ Those Frank Dux facts at the end of the movie always seemed pretty bogus. Maybe it could have been true at some point but I'll bet the real guy wasn't nearly as awesome as he was in the movie.

It won't be for a few days... hand processing 1500+ photos from ACEN is tragically time consuming. I will watch it soon though!
