This may be a bit of an odd question to be asked (and I'm not exactly sure if I'm asking in the right forum), but I'd rather get an answer before we go out and buy something we don't need.

I belong to a three person cosplay and dance group, one much like Q-Pup (one well known group on youtube and at Acen). Last year, our group went to a not so busy part of the rosemont's lobby and did some dancing. The only problem was, even when the lobby was relatively empty, we couldn't hear our own little speakers, not even three feet away from us. This resulted in us flailing about horribly and being rather embarrassed at not being able to do something we'd done so often in the months leading to Acen 2010. Later that weekend, we saw a group of dancers (Q-Pup, to be exact) using a plug in with speakers in the exact same area. This was something we didn't know was possible.

Our group doesn't want to make an obnoxious caramelldansen line. We just want to have the ability to dance with/for people who enjoy that part of the culture as much as we do and be able to hear our own music. We've done this at other conventions (the use of a plug in with speakers) at other cons and many people enjoyed it, congoers and staff. Is there someone we would have to talk to in order to be able to do this like the other dance group did?

If not, our group is saving up for a boombox. We hope it works. Haaa.

The convention center will charge you a fee if you use thier electricety. People who sell in the artist alley have to to pay a fee to use con center power. It would cost ACEN money if you used the centers outlets without permission.

I don't think this is against the rules per se, but I wouldn't be surprised if you tried it and got asked by building staff to unplug, especially in the convention center. In the hotel, you have a much better chance of getting away with it, as it were, but you have to find an outlet first - good luck with that.

Thankyou very much on such a quick reply! (I honestly was not expecting a reply, let alone two!)

To avoid any hassle of being booted from an outlet by staff, I think we'll be investing in a boombox of sorts. I just hope we don't get in trouble for using it...

You should get no hassle from IRT unless:

• your show is causing a crowd control situation,
• your show is loud enough to prevent panels from running smoothly, or
• the hotel asks us to shut you down. Which they usually don't.
