Hi everyone,

I've been cosplaying for a while, but I'm relatively new to the LBGT community. I'm really interested in meeting other LBGT cosplayers. I think a meet up was attempted for last year but ended up not happening. Whose up for it this year? Don't be shy- I don't bite ~_^

Meeting at 2pm, Friday in the Expoteria (cafeteria across from the Hyatt that is part of the convention center building).

I think its a good idea, but I think you should consider opening it up to non cosplayers as well. The anime community in general has a great LGBT population though.

Of course! Anyone would be welcome. I wasn't sure where to post this initially- so if it should go somewhere else that's fine too. We can wait and see how much interest there is.

I don't think the order of the letters really matters- I've heard different versions. It's early yet, but anyone have any ideas for a time and place to meet-up?

Friday would be best for me considering how super busy Saturday is but I'll try to come no matter when it's scheduled.

I think it's a great idea, but I think it should definitely be LGBT +allies, and this should be made clear...

I don't know about others, but I don't have any LGBT friends coming, and I'm not coming without a Liet for my Poland. (not actually cosplaying Poland, but the character sums me up pretty much to a T)
I think it'll be a better turnout, and then closets can come and not be automatically out. I know that seeing the size of the support group around me helped me at the beginning, but if the GSA had only been the GA, I would have never gone, and I probably would still be closet... ANYWAYS. Also, I know for a fact that unless something is clearly ally-friendly, I'm never going to get my companion of choice (or probably anyone else) to come with (rumors are already ever so widespread...) and I'm sure it's the same for others who are considering.

That's just my two cents, but I think making it LGBT+A would make the meetup more successful and comfortable for everyone. Except maybe the person who decides someone is cute and is rejected with: Sorry, just an ally!
But then, anyone who's asking people out at an LGBT meetup at an anime con is kinda silly...


Edit: for people who might be confused, most of this is just because I've noticed allies (at least the non-vocal kind) to be a flighty bunch at times, and unless the openness is explicitly stated, they might shy away, especially if they've had other bad experiences with the bass-ackwards notion that only LGBTs support LGBTs.

Sure, allies would definitely be welcome. We can even add Q's (questioning/bi-curious). The point is just to get a chance to meet others interested in cosplay, manga, anime etc. and of course, have fun! I wasn't planning on waving around a big rainbow flag or anything. I tend to be a bit more discreet and so people don't need to worry about being "out" or have others saying anything negative. I think I'd personally kick out anyone who wants to cause trouble.

Friday is probably a good day since Saturday does tend to be rather crazy. I'll have to think of a time and location. Maybe we should also consider actually doing something- a tour of the hotel? spending a few minutes at various panels? hanging out at the food court for snacks? I'll definitely be in cosplay, just don't know what character yet!

I hope to work on some suggestions for time and place this weekend after I look at stuff like the photoshoot times and meeting places around the convention. I'm usually not on the forums as much as I'd like due to my job, but I'm glad there is so much interest

Hey, let's go crash that! Okay, seriously- I came up with 2 ideas- meeting at Perks (in the Hyatt)on Friday evening, like 8pm? oh my gosh... i will honestly say, i saw this forum and nearly died.
i have been going to acen for a while (2011 being my fourth year) and i have never met someone from the LGBTQ community there...
if that's goes through, i will be there. definitely. whether i drag my cosplay group with me or not xD

sadly, i have a photoshoot i'm in at 3 on friday. but, i'll run there if the lgbtq meet up is at 2.
i've put so much into my cosplay, i'd hate to miss the photoshoot for it. (like i did last year orz).

but, if i can even make this meeting for an hour (if it is at 2), it would make my day!

providing i can go, i am the queen of no life so any day works for me. things got complicated *fast* for me lately. if we go somewhere to do lunch or such...somewhere away from the hyatt is better, the food there is an arm and a leg. therei s a denny's a bit of a walk away, and a few other places that are less expensive on the food front.

I am game for this , if I make it to the Con this year . Will be watching for time and place, may even Cross-Cosplay if things work out and I attend the whole weekend ...
If I can not make it for the weekend may just come for the day to get some great pics. I don't think I need a badge if my plans are just to hang out and take picture in the lobby of the Hyatt and the other photo shoot locations for the day. Why spend the money if I don't plan on doing any panels or going into the other places like game rooms and dealers area, that require you to submit it. Of course this is a last resort just to say I went to keep the ritual Alive, as this will be year 6 thus far. Normally I go all out but funds are very low this year to afford the room and what not.

The cafeteria is next to the garden right? Is it...the Expoteria or something? It's certainly cheaper than any food at the Hyatt and I notice a lot of people gather there. I'm debating wearing my costume or not. XD Is anyone else?
