What I meant was, I hate it when people lie to you about how they feel about you, just to protect your feelings. Basically, if you have a problem with me, say so. Because if you don't, and you lead me into a false sense of security where I think that every thing is good and we're the best of friends and the world is full of sunshine and rainbows, when the truth comes out--and the truth almost always comes out, even if you don't mean it to (sometimes, you can tell a person is lying to you without anyone ever having to say so)--it hurts a HELL of a lot more than if you just told me you didn't like me in the first place. So for those of you who think it's okay to lie to someone to "protect their feelings," please keep this in mind. If you decide to lie anyway, pray to God that that person never finds out the truth, because I can't begin to tell you how much it hurts to find out the truth after being led on.

Just to be clear, I wasn't intimating that it is acceptable for one to lie to people any time one wishes to spare their feelings from being hurt. I was merely stating that there are certain scenarios in which lying to someone might not be the wrong thing to do, or at the very least, might be morally justifiable. Certainly, the truth usually comes to light, but we can all imagine situations in which telling a lie would be ethically preferable to not telling said lie.

I agree that (most of the time) people should not lie about how they feel in order to protect someone else's feelings. Honesty is (almost) always the best policy. But life is not black and white, which is why it is necessary to add the caveats (most of the time) and (almost) to my previous statements.

Keiichi, I have met quite a few anime fans who treat others like subhumans if they don't like Series X; I guess you're just lucky that you haven't. Most of them are teenagers, so I give them a pass. I actually had one student who used to scrawl "DEVIL MAY CRY" on his exams because he loved the series that much and wanted to get me interested in it. But I've met a few adults (who were supposedly adults, anyway) that can't believe people don't like Evangelion. I love Eva, but I can see why some people think it's a giant mindscrew. But rabid Evafans are as bad as Naruto weeaboos, and vice-versa.

Ok I would love to say FU to my older sister that owes me more than 6,500 thousand dollar and it is probably more since I still have to add more. That's right my older sister who is asking her younger sister for money owes her that much money. It is a tab that she started with me since December of 2009 and it kept growing I paid for: Gas, Bills, School, Food, Doctor, Shopping, and Spending Money. I don't charge my little brother since it is my job to take care of him but my f-ing sister asking me her younger sister for money and she gets paid more per hour than I do and she can't save for crap. Because of her spending habits we have no cable and debt collectors are calling our house since she hasn't made payments on the car. And she messed up 2 house payments, they said we didn't pay but I think my sister did something with the money. She is stressing out our dad since she is crewing up his credit and worrying how to make ends meet every month. I can't take it anymore, I don't need anymore problems in the family as it is and she is our number one source of the problem, right a head of my mom which is another story in itself. I feel someone better but that still don't take the stress out of our lives.

you're lumping people relentlessly hyping a show to you with people judging you for not liking it. obviously if someone said eva looked really dumb and annoying and just a bunch of stupid gags and fanservice, plus the art sucks--and they went on and on like that every single time you brought it up, you'd get annoyed and try to shove it down their throat so that they realize they were misjudging it.

both those fanbases are filled with people who tout their respective annoyingly popular series of the day as THE BEST without actually trying enough anime to make any sort of serious judgment as to what's the pinnacle of the japanese animated medium. 'this anime is really popular and i like it, it must be the greatest ever..despite me not having even seen 70-80% of anime overall.'

He hates Hetalia because he considers it a legit version of gay porn that's stupid and I don't like Naruto because of how cliched and flat some of the characters have become, with fan based back lash. I listen to him talk about Kakashi and the manga updates and he deals with me fangirling over the latest Russiamerica doujinshi I got.

This is why I hate arguing online but I'm stubborn, but not to the point that I have to defend my pride.

I've never heard the term "sorostitutes". Love it. I also agree that people ruining songs is the absolute worst. I was once at a party and a drunk girl was screaming the lyrics to "Don't Stop Me Now" by Queen, and she thought the words were "200 degrees, that's why they call me mister foreign guy." I immediately left the room and spent the next several hours softly sobbing in the bathtub with the shower on. I can never forget.

Also, where are you encountering Unofficial? Last year I was on the U of I campus for a library school thing and people in green shirts were swarming everywhere through the streets. I pretended I was driving out of a zombie outbreak, though, so it was as fun as it was irritating.

Let me rephrase that: It would be like the gf makes her bf watch yaoi and do the parts because they are a couple and thinks he would enjoy it because they are gf and bf and get off on her enjoying it. Not him changing his sexual orientation. A lot of girls feel that the boy should like whatever the girl should like PERIOD no matter how nuts or crazy or how they do not like it because the girl is enjoying it.

Or a better example would be that two people like different genre. Girl likes Tactics game and Boy likes JRPGS. Now the boy shows off this new RPG that he thinks the girl would like, even though she's into more old school rpgs, because it's something he enjoys, even though personally he doesn't like the Tactic games that she likes. She doesn't really like it or get into it and complains/talks about it, like how this girl jiggles too much, etc.. He gets offended and keeps bringing it up, showing her clips as well as cool parts to make her get into it so they can both enjoy it but she still points out its faults and he gets upset and calls off the friendship.

Sorry I was thinking from the 'shoving down their throats until they realize they were wrong,' kind of statement. I wanted to do the same thing to my friend but it would be kinda moot because he will keep complaining about such things until they change or die. it's more like there is a cool movie that they;ll probably both enjoy, but the boyfriend hates the actor/actress who is the star or the trailer or something, so he keeps saying the movie is crappy and dumb without giving it a chance. but like i said, i'm not arguing that you should try and convince anyone to try anything.

if you're pre-judging something without any actual knowledge of it, you're wrong and have no idea what you're talking about. as much as people know what they'll probably like based on first impressions, plenty of anime series completely surprise you when you actually sit down to watch them. i certainly didn't expect to find ouran host club hilarious, but i gave it a decent chance and it actually was the funniest anime i saw that year.

Keiichi: I do agree on the latter statement I was just saying that you can't change people's minds who have their mind set on anything. If someone complains or hates it they most likely won't change their mind from watching or playing it. If it makes you feel better I won't discuss any more on it

Also, where are you encountering Unofficial? Last year I was on the U of I campus for a library school thing and people in green shirts were swarming everywhere through the streets. I pretended I was driving out of a zombie outbreak, though, so it was as fun as it was irritating.

I have an apartment not far from campus in Champaign, and this area is ALIVE. Like, a four-block radius around here is just nuts. There have already been 68 citations and 82 cars towed since this morning. XD Everyone's in green. People are blowing in vuvuzelas. Some people were handing out free hot dogs (shady as hell, so I did NOT take one. Might be roofied. . . ). I love this campus on Unofficial weekend. So much spirit!

Same here but I mean, at the end of the day, I don't need to hear something like "JESUS/ALLAH/BUDAH(I know I butchered his name)/ZUES/HARUHI /HANYUU IS GOD" or "THERE'S NO SUCH THING AS GOD" and have that shoved in my face. It's annoying.
