Even though I don't care for American beer, making fun of men's masculinity and insecurities is funny and clever. That's good satire.
Besides, real men shouldn't be drinking lite beer in the first place. What are you, watching your figure or something? B)

I'm going to jump on the beer hating commercial bandwagon. The first commercial or two were funny but now some of them just seem a bit forced... like all the caveman Geico commercials. Go away already. Also, the whole lite beer thing isn't very manly IMO. Man up and grab something with substance! I don't really like drinking beer flavored water.

First, no offense, but it sounds to me like in this case you're lying less to protect her and more to protect yourself from her wrath. Just sayin.

What I meant was, I hate it when people lie to you about how they feel about you, just to protect your feelings. When I was a kid a girl I considered to be my best friend told me I was her best friend too, and then spent the next year pretty much ignoring me. When I confronted her about it, she said she had only said it because she "didn't want to hurt my feelings."

Then, last year, a person I considered to be a really good friend told me she didn't want to room with me because she wanted to stay friends with me and thought we'd end up killing each other if we roomed together. I accepted this at first, except then she was still saying this the day before the deadline for people who wanted to be in block housing, which we both did. So I ended up sitting there, worrying about whether I would be able to find a roommate or whether I would have to live with a stranger, all while watching her worry about the same thing even though I was RIGHT there. So while she was saying "I really want to stay friends with you," what I was hearing was "I would rather live with a complete stranger than live with you." And now she doesn't even really talk to me, even to say "hi" when we pass each other in the cafeteria.

Basically, if you have a problem with me, say so. Because if you don't, and you lead me into a false sense of security where I think that every thing is good and we're the best of friends and the world is full of sunshine and rainbows, when the truth comes out--and the truth almost always comes out, even if you don't mean it to (sometimes, you can tell a person is lying to you without anyone ever having to say so)--it hurts a HELL of a lot more than if you just told me you didn't like me in the first place. So for those of you who think it's okay to lie to someone to "protect their feelings," please keep this in mind. If you decide to lie anyway, pray to God that that person never finds out the truth, because I can't begin to tell you how much it hurts to find out the truth after being led on.

Just to be clear, I wasn't intimating that it is acceptable for one to lie to people any time one wishes to spare their feelings from being hurt. I was merely stating that there are certain scenarios in which lying to someone might not be the wrong thing to do, or at the very least, might be morally justifiable. Certainly, the truth usually comes to light, but we can all imagine situations in which telling a lie would be ethically preferable to not telling said lie.

I agree that (most of the time) people should not lie about how they feel in order to protect someone else's feelings. Honesty is (almost) always the best policy. But life is not black and white, which is why it is necessary to add the caveats (most of the time) and (almost) to my previous statements.

That's precisely it, O'Reilly is playing a character, or perhaps more accurately, a caricature. I don't take any "newscaster" on Fox News seriously. Nor do I take anyone on MSNBC or CNN literally. The majority of "newscasters" on these networks are merely talking heads who regurgitate the latest talking points about hot-button issues. They spew out whatever garbage they're fed, acting as pundits instead of reporting objectively. If I want real, unbiased news coverage, I'll go to BBC.com. It's not perfect, but it's better than what we get on American television.

BBC is biased too. They're pretty good on things they're not particularly interested in (especially Asia), but push one of the BBC's berserk buttons (usually something the US does that they don't like), and they'll go ballistic. But yeah, our own news is pretty screwed up. At least we can choose to watch Fox and everyone else, and between them, the truth comes out. I like O'Reilly's books (which are actually quite good and nonpartisan), but his TV show? Yeah. I could never be a guest on there, and I'm conservative in political outlook.

I greatly respect the Russians, but they have the world's biggest inferiority complex. I love the Chinese, but they have the world's biggest superiority complex.

Keiichi, I have met quite a few anime fans who treat others like subhumans if they don't like Series X; I guess you're just lucky that you haven't. Most of them are teenagers, so I give them a pass. I actually had one student who used to scrawl "DEVIL MAY CRY" on his exams because he loved the series that much and wanted to get me interested in it. But I've met a few adults (who were supposedly adults, anyway) that can't believe people don't like Evangelion. I love Eva, but I can see why some people think it's a giant mindscrew. But rabid Evafans are as bad as Naruto weeaboos, and vice-versa.

Ok I would love to say FU to my older sister that owes me more than 6,500 thousand dollar and it is probably more since I still have to add more. That's right my older sister who is asking her younger sister for money owes her that much money. It is a tab that she started with me since December of 2009 and it kept growing I paid for: Gas, Bills, School, Food, Doctor, Shopping, and Spending Money. I don't charge my little brother since it is my job to take care of him but my f-ing sister asking me her younger sister for money and she gets paid more per hour than I do and she can't save for crap. Because of her spending habits we have no cable and debt collectors are calling our house since she hasn't made payments on the car. And she messed up 2 house payments, they said we didn't pay but I think my sister did something with the money. She is stressing out our dad since she is crewing up his credit and worrying how to make ends meet every month. I can't take it anymore, I don't need anymore problems in the family as it is and she is our number one source of the problem, right a head of my mom which is another story in itself. I feel someone better but that still don't take the stress out of our lives.

Sure. Their highest rated program is on shari'a law and how it's awesome...if you're into that sort of thing.

Cookie: I still say kick her butt. Just saying. My mom is like this. My dad USED to be like this before he bawwwwwed and left thinking that the pool was closed because of my family. She might go 'well you're my sister and you're family so it's cool if I NEVER pay it off and we just write this off as gifts mkay?' kind of crap.

Sentinel: There are weeaboo idiots in anything from video games to books. I know people who cannot believe I don't like Durarara, Hitman, Bleach, or D grey man. And some people wonder why I read HunterxHunter. Gainex is just mind screw period but Eva isn't the worse mind screw. I seen worse that made me go 'WHAT THAT'S IT.' I hate you wolf's rain anime and the manga to Eureka, which is MIND SCREW ending
ACen 2013 Cosplay:
Hero from SMT: DS2, Emmet/Kudari from Pokemon Black and White, Roppi Izaya from Durarara, Hitoshura human form from SMT.

lol!, it's pretty amusing that this sounds like the sort of gag one-liner sentinel makes, but the content is in complete opposition to his stern political and social views.

hey, i watch BBC if i want less spin, too, but i have to say that i cannot lump rachel maddow in with the rest of the opportunistic, insincere 'talking heads' pundits.
i often feel that maddow is the most amazing person alive today and i will hear no ill talk of her, sir. i try to read and do my own research with articles and the paper or whatever and just avoid news shows overall, but i really enjoy maddow's program.

you're lumping people relentlessly hyping a show to you with people judging you for not liking it. obviously if someone said eva looked really dumb and annoying and just a bunch of stupid gags and fanservice, plus the art sucks--and they went on and on like that every single time you brought it up, you'd get annoyed and try to shove it down their throat so that they realize they were misjudging it.

both those fanbases are filled with people who tout their respective annoyingly popular series of the day as THE BEST without actually trying enough anime to make any sort of serious judgment as to what's the pinnacle of the japanese animated medium. 'this anime is really popular and i like it, it must be the greatest ever..despite me not having even seen 70-80% of anime overall.'

No offense Keiichi but you can't force anyone to change their mind. It's like trying to make a straight man like yaoi and act out the parts

All you can do with people like that is leave them alone or ignore them. Or deal with them with a grain of salt. It would be like me trying to get my ex bf to like Hetalia and him trying to get me to like Naruto again. He hates Hetalia because he considers it a legit version of gay porn that's stupid and I don't like Naruto because of how cliched and flat some of the characters have become, with fan based back lash. I listen to him talk about Kakashi and the manga updates and he deals with me fangirling over the latest Russiamerica doujinshi I got.

This is why I hate arguing online but I'm stubborn, but not to the point that I have to defend my pride.

*Also starting to dislike people who seem to troll or get off trolling irl and online. Like that's sad if you enjoy making people's lives a nightmare.

whoa, whoa, whoa..i didn't say any of what you're inferring.
i never said anything supporting trying to convince someone to like anything; i merely explained how the reaction was reasonable and understandable if the person is being ignorant and judgmental.

LMAO, trying to get someone to try something they're feeling trepidation toward is like trying to convince someone to CHANGE THEIR SEXUAL ORIENTATION? i don't think so, dude..>_> a better analogy would be like, getting your boyfriend to watch '500 days of summer' with you--something that looks like it could be a dull, tedious romantic comedy pandering exclusively to ladies, but is actually written with men's romantic perspective in mind and is actually pretty enjoyable (read: imho).

Things that make me go FFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU:

1. Sorostitutes crawling all over campus on the weekends.
2. When the stupid girls in the apartment next door scream, "WHOOO! THIS IS MY SOOOONG!!" all day as they blast their sucky music.
3. Idiotic drivers. Especially those who text and drive.
4. Professors who don't e-mail you back until it's too late to change what you did. -___-
5. Parent who tells you to act like an adult and take responsibility for your actions when he's the one who didn't sign up for the tuition payment plan because he "forgot." And now he wants you to ignore your homework and exams to go fix his mistake. Thanks a bunch, pop.
6. 13-year-olds in chatrooms who try to tell me they know more about Japanese grammar than I do. Sweetheart, I've been studying the language for a year. You're a little girl from Ohio who thinks her boyfriend of one week is the love of her life. Just stop before I tear you to pieces.
7. People walking on my bike path and then getting mad at me when I almost hit them. How about you go walk on the sidewalk that is FOUR FEET AWAY? *kicks a pedestrian*

I would say more, but it's time to get ready for class and witness the glory that is Unofficial first hand. :happydance:
Give yourself prudence, and love your friends. Subway kid rejoice your truth.

My list ladies and germs

Children and teenagers who think they're grown - Sorry kiddies but until you can legally be drafted for a war, pay taxes and bills (cell phone doesn't count), go to jury duty, etc., you are not grown. Stop acting like you are before I smack you across your face.

Racists and Bigots - Just because they're ignorant P.O.S

Weaboos and Otakus, Basement Nerds - Yes, I know this is a forum for an anime convention. Yes, I have an anime avatar and I cosplay but I don't think Japan is the best damn thing ever. I don't think anime is better than Western Cartoon. I have a life outside of that, so why can't you?

Music Elitists - I hate them with a strong passion. I can listen to whatever bands, musicians, genre I want, don't argue with me on that. I also hate all these ignorant mofos who think hip-hop/rap is nothing more than the negative crap in the mainstream.

West County - A subdivsion of my hometown full of WASPs, racists, rich snobs, brats, wiggas, preppy douchebags, a-holes, and just everything else I hate about ignorance in general.

Prudes - You are not better than anyone else just because you do not drink, do drugs, have sex, have tattoos, etc.

Atheists - You are not better than anyone else who believe in a God.

Religious People - You are not better than anyone else who don't believe in a God.

Homophobes - Goes back to my my bigot hatred.

Reverse Racism - No it is not okay for me to use the "N" word because I'm black and get offended if a white guy uses it. Racism is racism.

I've never heard the term "sorostitutes". Love it. I also agree that people ruining songs is the absolute worst. I was once at a party and a drunk girl was screaming the lyrics to "Don't Stop Me Now" by Queen, and she thought the words were "200 degrees, that's why they call me mister foreign guy." I immediately left the room and spent the next several hours softly sobbing in the bathtub with the shower on. I can never forget.

Also, where are you encountering Unofficial? Last year I was on the U of I campus for a library school thing and people in green shirts were swarming everywhere through the streets. I pretended I was driving out of a zombie outbreak, though, so it was as fun as it was irritating.

A fine list, indeed.

Also I am intrigued by your Uncle Ruckus cosplay.

whoa, whoa, whoa..i didn't say any of what you're inferring.
i never said anything supporting trying to convince someone to like anything; i merely explained how the reaction was reasonable and understandable if the person is being ignorant and judgmental.

Let me rephrase that: It would be like the gf makes her bf watch yaoi and do the parts because they are a couple and thinks he would enjoy it because they are gf and bf and get off on her enjoying it. Not him changing his sexual orientation. A lot of girls feel that the boy should like whatever the girl should like PERIOD no matter how nuts or crazy or how they do not like it because the girl is enjoying it.

Or a better example would be that two people like different genre. Girl likes Tactics game and Boy likes JRPGS. Now the boy shows off this new RPG that he thinks the girl would like, even though she's into more old school rpgs, because it's something he enjoys, even though personally he doesn't like the Tactic games that she likes. She doesn't really like it or get into it and complains/talks about it, like how this girl jiggles too much, etc.. He gets offended and keeps bringing it up, showing her clips as well as cool parts to make her get into it so they can both enjoy it but she still points out its faults and he gets upset and calls off the friendship.

Sorry I was thinking from the 'shoving down their throats until they realize they were wrong,' kind of statement. I wanted to do the same thing to my friend but it would be kinda moot because he will keep complaining about such things until they change or die. I was commenting from that so sorry if you got confused.

honestly, i can understand why the majority of either side is going to have a problem accepting the other. religious zealots and atheists alike are going to believe they know THE TRUTH, and anyone who says different is being foolish and ignorant.

that being said, hardened atheists do tend to oversimplify things less and generally be slightly less..delusional and sanctimonious? but that may be me generalizing 'religious zealots' as the average 'christian zealot'.

umm..it's nothing like this either, fuji..
it's more like there is a cool movie that they;ll probably both enjoy, but the boyfriend hates the actor/actress who is the star or the trailer or something, so he keeps saying the movie is crappy and dumb without giving it a chance. but like i said, i'm not arguing that you should try and convince anyone to try anything.

if you're pre-judging something without any actual knowledge of it, you're wrong and have no idea what you're talking about. as much as people know what they'll probably like based on first impressions, plenty of anime series completely surprise you when you actually sit down to watch them. i certainly didn't expect to find ouran host club hilarious, but i gave it a decent chance and it actually was the funniest anime i saw that year.

What makes me go FU:

People who gossip about things you have told them in confidence. If I say that something is supposed to be kept a secret, don't go telling people the first opportunity you get. Learn to keep your mouth shut!

Also, people who tell you you're a horrible person because you're not as religious as they'd like you to be. My religious beliefs or lack of should not be anyone's business but my own.

Not really a hate but just more of a peeve:
Anime/manga that's drawn really cutesy/simple/clean but has some really effed up content (e.g. hardcore sex [still not catagorized as hentai], extreme gore, very adult themes).
It makes me go this.

Then don't go to forums or anything over the internet  and don't go to 4chan. 99% of the time you find arguments. Someone was arguing over the fact that P4 should have themes of P3 for about three to four pages on another forum. Everyone wants their two cents and for it to be heard. Even you I bet.

I loled at the argument over why 360 was the better system from a blog writer for hours and hours.

Keiichi: I do agree on the latter statement I was just saying that you can't change people's minds who have their mind set on anything. If someone complains or hates it they most likely won't change their mind from watching or playing it. If it makes you feel better I won't discuss any more on it ^_^

I have an apartment not far from campus in Champaign, and this area is ALIVE. Like, a four-block radius around here is just nuts. There have already been 68 citations and 82 cars towed since this morning. XD Everyone's in green. People are blowing in vuvuzelas. Some people were handing out free hot dogs (shady as hell, so I did NOT take one. Might be roofied. . . ). I love this campus on Unofficial weekend. :D So much spirit!

sadly, i completely agree with the 70+% of anime being really bad comment.
to japan's credit, though, i think the percent of good manga is a lot higher.

I can't wait until I can buy the materials I need for Ruckus. However, I don't feel safe cracking jokes about black people cosplaying as anime characters. Or any races in that matter. Maybe in private with my friends but still.

Same here but I mean, at the end of the day, I don't need to hear something like "JESUS/ALLAH/BUDAH(I know I butchered his name)/ZUES/HARUHI /HANYUU IS GOD" or "THERE'S NO SUCH THING AS GOD" and have that shoved in my face. It's annoying.

I dunno but I'm just really fed up with them buttin' heads all day every day. Live and it live.
