I don't know about Chicago, but here in Minnesota people just cannot drive. I had to run out to the grocery store today to get soda because I was getting a headache and was very cranky.

Anyways as I was backing my car out, the SUV on my left politely stopped and waited, so I continue to back out. Then out of no where someone comes down the other end in THE MIDDLE OF THE ISLE, and I'm thinking, "oh, they'll stop." BUT THEY DON'T. What the hell? She gets so close to me I cannot continue to back out. I drive a Jeep Liberty, it's not exactly a car that can squeeze in tight places. I honk my horn at her and she just stares at me like "what?!" stupid butt of a female dog. It took like a whole minute for it to register that "oh maybe I should move!"

Um, duh.

I've got a lot of good Idiot Driver stories I'd love to share.. but what about you? I'm sure you guys have some great ones. :D

Oh I have a few that happened to me... in a parking garage on campus.

I've had people make tight left turns into my lane as I was going up the ramp near the stop sign.

One time someone ran the stop sign and almost hit me as I was going straight. Then I went up the ramp and almost got hit again by someone turning left to go down the ramp.

Seriously no one can drive correctly here.

My most recent one was....

Someone hit my car in a grocery store parking lot while I was shopping inside. Cracked my bumper and broke the bracket part to hold up my headlight. It wasn't so much the damage, the person didn't even leave a "Sorry" on my car. No one saw it either which was a bummer.

I thank ebay for finding a replacement part, looking at auto part stores was 3x the cost.

OMG TURN SIGNALS. Seriously, it's not like you have to reach to the other side of the dash to use them. You flick your wrist. That's it. HOW HARD IS THAT/ARE YOU RLY THAT LAZY.

OMG, never so much RAAAAAAAAGE.

And speed limits. They are posted for a reason. Don't want to go over it, awesome, I totally understand. But if the weather is perfect and it's not snowing/raining/wind blowing 30+mph then you should go 60 while on the freeway, and not 50. Really, you should.

I love people who think it's fine to go 40 on the highways here.
My tongue moved, a swung relaxing hinge.
I said to her, 'What will become of us?'
And as forgotten water in a well might shake
At an explosion under morning

Or a crack run up a gable,
She began to speak.
'I think our very form is bound to change.
Dogs in siege. Saurian relapses. Pismires."

There's a reason why I take the train to ACen every year. In the space of four months, I was involved in three accidents. One of them wasn't the driver's fault (whiteout blizzard), but the other two were--i.e. if it's slushy on the road, do not go 75 mph; if it's just rained, do not go 80 mph. Luckily, the only damage was a few dents and a busted tail light...and my wits.

That's not helping me with my fear of possibly having to drive, and not my boyfriend, lol. I may take a flight from RST to O'hare though... every time I take the train there is a suicide on the tracks, I do not have good luck with it, lol.

Oh man, I have a million of them. Most of them involve people using racial epithets against me along with the phrases "go back to your own country" and "Asians shouldn't be allowed to drive." Once in awhile, people will get out and threaten me while I coolface.jpg behind my driver's side window. :3 I especially love it when they do that. I'm also proud to say I've been driving for almost 11 years now, and haven't gotten into an accident where I'm at fault. I tend to drive pretty conservatively on the street.

One time driving through Plano I was behind a guy who had his turn signal on all the time I was following him. He didn't turn it off until we got into the Yorkville city limits.

Up at school in the parking lot a stupid-head decided the sidewalk into the lot was a road. She almost hit me and some other kid while we were waiting to cross the street.

Ugh...I've never had a lady as stupid as this one time...

I used to drive for a vending machine company. I used to have to drive a pretty long van. It was a utility van, but pretty long, so it had a little wider turning radius. I was going northbound on a two-lane road and needed to make a right turn into a parking lot. I flipped on my right turn signal and just as I was making my way to the driveway, this lady stopped almost in the middle of the entire driveway, leaving me no room to make the turn. My van could fit, had I not had to make the tight turn, I needed a little more room in the other lane of the driveway to turn. I knew my external turn signal was working because I could see it reflecting off a sign a little ways down the road. This lady needed to turn left out of the driveway to go in the opposite direction I was coming form. I stopped, and waited until she turned, no really big deal. But then, she started to wave me on. Like..she wanted me to turn. I couldn't and I knew it without hitting her car, the curb, or anything else, so I waved her on and threw up my arms like "what the heck lady, I can't fit there with you there". She kept waving me on and took her eyes off the flow of cars from the opposite direction as me. There was a break where she could have turned out and gone...but she kept waving me on. I honk at her and waved her on again. We sat there FOR A WHOLE 2 MINUTES before she apparently got tired of waiting for ME and got out of her car! She walked up to my window and I calmly asked her "Is anything wrong"? She started explaining that she wanted me to go and I calmly told her "I don't fit with you there. If I was coming from the other direction, then I might be able to, but I simply cannot make that turn with you there, I will hit you and then there will be more problems". While this is going on, people behind the both of us both in the parking lot and the road I'm on are getting pissed off. This guy right behind me just screamed out his window at the top of his lungs "Just move that piece of sh**, bi***". she threw up her arms like this was all my fault, stormed back to her car...and instead of pulling out of the parking lot when it was clear (which again, it was), SHE BACKED UP TOO FAST, LOST CONTROL OF HER CAR AND SLAMMED INTO A FIRE HYDRANT. Arrgh. So now, I have to wait for the police to explain what happened, give an accident witness report, I'm now like..2 hours late, my boss is pissed at me, all because a lady just didn't know how the flow of traffic worked. I really hate when people are stupid behind the wheel. Remember people, you must be 10% smarter than the thing you're trying to do.

I don't really have any specific tales at the moment, but my biggest pet peeve is the blinker thing. Seriously people: 1) Friggin' use it. 2) Use it RIGHT. You don't turn it on halfway through your turn; you flip it before you even start braking.

My other pet peeve is when people will sit in the aisle of a parking lot for 10 minutes waiting for a crappy parking spot when there's an equally crappy parking spot three cars down.

Truthfully I think I encounter at least one near accident a week. I've gotten good at avoiding and predicting bad drivers, but I feel it's just a matter of time till someone hits me.

At this intersection on route 20, one way has no stop signs and the other does. So, yesterday I was driving on route 20 and there were two cars in front of me. The car at the very front stopped and had their blinker on to turn left (I don't know why they stopped because we have the right of way and no one was at the stop signs on either side and no one was coming the other way) and so the car behind that car does not brake, leaving me clueless about the car in front them, and drives around them to continue straight. As soon as that person does that and I am able to see the car that wants to turn, I slam on my brakes because I don't want to hit the car. I let the car turn because I don't want to go around the person in fear of a person coming from the right. Even though there is a stop sign, hardly anyone stops behind the white line. Usually half the car at least is over the white line and I rather wait than possibly get hit.

I was so pissed! >:( Had that happened on the way home when I had a vase of flowers (wrapped up in three blankets and buckled up) and it fell, I would have chased that car down.

The vast majority of the bad drivers I run into have either handicap plates or are from Ill., Ohio, or Michigan. (Ill. Mostly. You guys suck.) No one remembers how to drive once winter hits. I feel like I want to hurt people when I have to drive anywhere near Chicago. (so much rage) If only I could be the only person on the road, I would be so happy.

My biggest pet peeve is when it come to enter and exit ramps.... I mean come on people. If you are trying to enter the freeway and the traffic is going 65 mph and you can't seem to get up to 50 by the end of the ramp, then how in the heck do you expect to merge with traffic at the end of the ramp?!! You are meant to accelerate to reach a speed that allows you to merge with the flow of traffic with out causing an accident........

Then if you are going to exit the freeway don't slow down to 50 mph when you are still 2 miles away from the exit!! That's why its an exit RAMP you use the ramp length to slow down before you get the end....

Its so not rocket science, but it might as well be as clueless as some drivers are to the rules of the road.

Remember the chick who pulled out of her parking spot and didn't notice us? I hate when people just pull out and don't pay attention to who is around them. I have been almost hit by people doing that when I'm walking in the parking lot. Pedestrians have the right of way. You should be looking to make sure no one is behind or going to walk behind your car.

I don't really have any idiot driver stories from my own experiences driving, but I have plenty from when I was in the car with other friends. Mainly it's drivers cutting in front of us and almost causing an accident if it wasn't for my friend's quick actions. It's so annoying when they turn into the wrong lane, which is the one you're in, and they don't even try and wait for you to drive by. It's like, Oh they'll move if they see me coming. Um no, we should have to swerve out of our lane or hit the brakes in order for you to sneak your way across the lanes.

Situations like this is why I don't like driving much, at least in busy areas. I don't mind back roads or small parts of town, but I dislike busy suburban streets.

One of the things that drive me nuts are people that don't know how to make a left turn. Either they'll keep sitting there behind the stop line instead of rolling into the intersection while the light's green, or they'll suddenly stop, wait a second or two and THEN put on their signal, if they use it at all.

my issue is more of people telling me i have no right to park in the handicap spots at lots or people refusing to let me out of a handicap spot because they cant park there... i mean i have a fractured spine lumbar area so, driving long periods painful, jerks keeping stuck in a parking spot annoying, getting crap from people because i look normal and park legally in a handicap spot... rage!! that and people just can not drive in parking lots properly as it is...

i have also noticed on highways a lot of suvs like to turn their brights on when ever a compact or subcompact has to move over in front of them from an on ramp. someone didnt believe me then it did happen on our way from woodfield which was just not cool. then teens that think its funny to pull stunts like cutting you off and stopping dead infront (uh sorry my insurance does not need to go up because of you being a tardo) or people that have issues with being passed by a car that is worth less than theirs. they have to then pass you or ride up your butt with their brights, maybe a neon blue honda just enrages people i dunno.

One of the things that drive me nuts are people that don't know how to make a left turn. Either they'll keep sitting there behind the stop line instead of rolling into the intersection while the light's green, or they'll suddenly stop, wait a second or two and THEN put on their signal, if they use it at all.

Yes, this. But then there are the jerk faces that try to make the left hand turn when the light is clearly red for them.

Another thing about left hand turns. You do not have the right of way. If I am making a right hand turn, I always always always have the right of way if you do not have a green arrow. So many times in my life have I almost gotten into accidents because of this.

A lot of SUVs just have brighter lights though. My boyfriend complains about this a lot when I'm following behind him at night. "Why did you have your brights on????" But really I don't, my lights are just brighter.

I hate driving at night, because I have a sensitivity to light, so I feel really bad about it, because I know what it's like :( LED headlights should be outlawed however.

most of the lights around where i am have only left green arrows... i believe that is because of accidents and people fighting over right of way a bit much who was closer who was there first blah blah blah. though remember driving laws vary by state and here even by county...

As a Minnesotan, I'm a bit split on this- yes, some people do slow down way too much especially when it starts to rain or snow, don't look properly, but people aren't overly aggressive and at least drive pretty reasonably. It could be quite a bit worse...

I remember a time when my family was on vacation in NYC, and we were to meet up with a tour group we joined at a hotel in the lovely apocalyptic wasteland that is known as Newark, New Jersey. We hire car service to drive us over there from Manhattan, and of course our driver being a New Yorker missed the exit and we end up near Newark Intl Airport. We take the next exit where there was a guy parked in the white triangle where you separate the freeway drivers from those exiting who was partially exited and decides to get back on the freeway. By going in reverse. Just as we were exiting. And of course imagine my ironic surprise when a few days later I hear a report on the news about how NJ has the worst roads out of any state in the entire nation and the most accidents and the worst drivers...

As a car enthusiast, I'm aware of the groups of people and how they drive, and usually when I see a car on the road, I have an idea of how the driver's going to treat it. One thing that really irks me is whenever I see someone driving a Pontiac Grand Prix. Every time I see that vehicle, I cringe a little trying to predict what idiotic move the driver will make since every time I see one, the driver swerves, acts aggressive, accelerates unnecessarily, speeds, multitasks, whatever.

And even though I consider myself a pretty good driver (I'll be shuttling my friends to ACEN this year and I've driven the family to Chicago twice before with few problems) I will admit I've had screwups... Like the first time I drove to Chicago, I remember stopping at the toll booths on I-90 driving into downtown. This was when there were still the unmanned toll booths where you roll down the window to drop your change in. And of course I decide to throw the money in and some of it promptly falls out of the tray onto the pavement. So I had to put the car in park, unbuckle my seat belt, open the door, throw the money in, shut the door, put the car in drive and goose it before the gate goes down... all while winding the window up and trying to buckle my seat belt and steer with two hands... I know, the Illinoisans on this forum are probably laughing... Yes, I admit, I screwed up- won't happen again, learned my lesson the first time.

Nah, those are mainly to prevent traffic from sitting in the intersection and not paying attention to the light when it turns red and they're sitting in the intersection still waiting to get a chance to turn left.

Rukariou: I have a similar situation, at least out here....Except people are in the right turn lane, waiting to turn right against the red....the traffic going in the cross direction stops because of a red light...the driver still waits...waits until the opposite direction has the green arrow and begins their left turn into the direction that he wanted to go, and THEN he starts to turn. >_>
