As a Minnesotan, I'm a bit split on this- yes, some people do slow down way too much especially when it starts to rain or snow, don't look properly, but people aren't overly aggressive and at least drive pretty reasonably. It could be quite a bit worse...
I remember a time when my family was on vacation in NYC, and we were to meet up with a tour group we joined at a hotel in the lovely apocalyptic wasteland that is known as Newark, New Jersey. We hire car service to drive us over there from Manhattan, and of course our driver being a New Yorker missed the exit and we end up near Newark Intl Airport. We take the next exit where there was a guy parked in the white triangle where you separate the freeway drivers from those exiting who was partially exited and decides to get back on the freeway. By going in reverse. Just as we were exiting. And of course imagine my ironic surprise when a few days later I hear a report on the news about how NJ has the worst roads out of any state in the entire nation and the most accidents and the worst drivers...
As a car enthusiast, I'm aware of the groups of people and how they drive, and usually when I see a car on the road, I have an idea of how the driver's going to treat it. One thing that really irks me is whenever I see someone driving a Pontiac Grand Prix. Every time I see that vehicle, I cringe a little trying to predict what idiotic move the driver will make since every time I see one, the driver swerves, acts aggressive, accelerates unnecessarily, speeds, multitasks, whatever.
And even though I consider myself a pretty good driver (I'll be shuttling my friends to ACEN this year and I've driven the family to Chicago twice before with few problems) I will admit I've had screwups... Like the first time I drove to Chicago, I remember stopping at the toll booths on I-90 driving into downtown. This was when there were still the unmanned toll booths where you roll down the window to drop your change in. And of course I decide to throw the money in and some of it promptly falls out of the tray onto the pavement. So I had to put the car in park, unbuckle my seat belt, open the door, throw the money in, shut the door, put the car in drive and goose it before the gate goes down... all while winding the window up and trying to buckle my seat belt and steer with two hands... I know, the Illinoisans on this forum are probably laughing... Yes, I admit, I screwed up- won't happen again, learned my lesson the first time.
