According to a new study, sleeping with your pet could cause you to get sick. After reading this you may want to think twice about letting Fido sleep with you. Or, you simply don't care what a scientific study says and you allow Fido to sleep at the head of the bed. I let my cat sleep in my bed, though I find it annoying when I can't get in the position I want to sleep in.

I would agree it can make you sick, but I mean it's a person's choice. The reason I didn't sleep with my dog was 1) she always ate crap outside and got into stuff. Don't want that in my bed. and 2) she was too big and hairy and shed everywhere. If it's an indoor cat, I don't think I would mind too much.

My cats try to sleep with me but I don't let them because if I do usually at 3am or whenever I fall asleep they want to scratch at the door and run around. It is play time when I shut my eyes lol

I love my kitty, and snoozing next to him is the high point of going to sleep (he's like a purry pillow/foot warmer)! I see no problem with curling up beside your pet.

Plus, staying away from germs is just an awesome way of developing a pansy immune system. How can you develop immunity to environmental bacteria if you don't expose yourself to them?

Eh, I never really worry about it. I have an iron curtain for an immune system, and my kitty is an indoor kitty and very clean. She likes to lay on my legs though, and it gets uncomfortable so I feel bad when I have to kick her off the bed/sofa :(

I don't mind having a pet in the same bed as me. I'll look at it this way, if I get sick, my immune system will only get that much stronger. As long as the animal is clean and doesn't lay on my face, I'll allow it.
My tongue moved, a swung relaxing hinge.
I said to her, 'What will become of us?'
And as forgotten water in a well might shake
At an explosion under morning

Or a crack run up a gable,
She began to speak.

On the occasion my dog wants to sleep on my bed, I let him. (He likes to sleep in his own bed at least as much as he does mine.) He's not a poop eater, and when he does sleep on my bed he sleeps at the foot of the bed in the corner, so he manages to stay pretty out of the way too.

I dont really mind animals sleeping near or beside me. I just get agitated when my friends cat starts kneading my arms and legs or gets on my chest and stares at me... or when her dog licks my face It startles me. But I do agree with (This_Chick25) why not expose yourself to bacteria. Strengthin YOUR immune system =)
Other than that if I still had my dog I'd cuddle with it and let it sleep with me.

Haha, THIS. I laugh at people when they offer me hand sanitizer. Unless I got something really nasty on my hands I don't use it. And even after that I just go to the bathroom and wash my hands.

I do get my flu shot every year though. I had Influenza one year. Never again. I felt like I was run over by a truck. Way worse than when I got "swine flu" That I got over in 48 hours.

My dog usually sleeps on my bed or my parents' bed and it's usually toward the end of our bed or behind our knees because it's curved. I don't get why she sleeps by our feet sometimes when she hates feet. lol

We've had our dog for about 10 years and nothing has happened to us. lol No one in my family really gets sick. If we do, I doubt it is because of our sweet little Black Jack.

If the animal is at the bottom of the bed then it is cute. If you are spooning with the dog well that is kinda creepy.

I only had a few occasions where I had my dog sleep in my bed. Generally, I like them like taking naps up in my bed, but not really sleeping. None of my dogs are poop eaters, and they sure don't roll around outside. My Beagle was the only one to sleep in my bed. The first day we got him, he followed me around constantly, and then decided to make my bed his bed when I was laying on it. I got him to stop sleeping up here, but there is a few times where he would sleep on my bed, and he is usually on the other end.

I never let my dogs lick me in the face. Since the human mouth usually contains some of the most powerful bacteria, I can only imagine dogs being the same.

Ah, it's always refreshing to see that not everyone's over-sanitizing weirdos in this world. Ha ha. We have two kitties and a 10-pound pup that all manage to fit on the queen sized bed between me and my husband. The pup usually gets annoyed when the cats worm their way onto the bed and will make her grand escape to the couch or her puppy bed on the floor. Other than that, I don't see why you wouldn't let them up there, so long as your dog is potty trained and can get up and down without hurting themselves.

That's crap because I slept with my cat for years and I didn't get sick any more often then if I didn't (my kitten was lost after we moved and my father failed.) I also slept with my ex bf's two VERY fat cats for over a year and my son and me didn't really get ill from this. Heck we got sick more from my nasty brother in law than the cats but that's a different story.

I wonder who did they review for this study? It sure wasn't here since we have more cats/dogs than most areas.

Umm if you read the things they talk about in the article? It sounds like those people did not take very good care of their pets. A clean, healthy pet should generally NOT get you sick by sleeping near you. If your pet has fleas, internal parasites, or the plague  like they describe in that article, then I think you have much larger problems and are probably in trouble even if they don't sleep in your bed!

Erm...don't dogs have something in their saliva that breaks down bad stuff? That's why they can get into what they get into and not get sick.

As for me, I don't let my cat into bed often, but that's more because one second she's curled up in a little ball, and the next she's somehow managed to sprawl out in such a way that she's taken over the entire bed and I have no place comfortable to put my legs. That, or she'll sleep not next to me, but on me, and she's heavy.

I think that goes for humans too. The enzymes in our saliva is what keeps us from dying from morning breath. lol

When i was younger, i used to sleep with my British bulldog,he would take up most of the bed.
but then my brother came along and we had to give the dog away, I was so sad and cried a lot.

I haven't got a pet since that. but maybe when i do get one, i might.

I live on my own and my cat jumps up on my bed during the night... only problem is he purposely tries to wake me up by walking on me and I'm all like "DON'T TREAD ON ME!" and flail him off the bed... then I fall back asleep only to discover when I wake up he is laying almost directly on my head next to me on the pillow and I'm like RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!

I've always slept with my cats... o-o; For years even.. My latest cat (Found her about 2 years ago) actually likes to sleep on my pillow.. xD She'll force her way under my neck in the middle of the night, and naturally I don't budge.. =.= I could try and shoo her away, but she has behavorial problems and that would result in my face being ripped apart... So we just remain that way, stubbornly trying to hang onto the pillow.. >3>;; We can go at it for about an hour, then she'll eventually try to sit on my face.. o.o Any my other cat usually finds his way under the blankets and sleeps on top of me... And my dog would sleep at my side or on my feets.. @___@ Though they are all house pets.. and roaming with germs.. They give me such company! Sure I have to clean my sheets every other night.. and constantly keep them well groomed.. but... TT__TT The extra warmth is totally worth it! They're mah babies!! ; ~ ; Sickening or not..

As long as my dogs don't get up to my face, I'm totally fine with them sleeping in my bed.

They make great heating pads but they will sometimes bring squeaky toys in bed. That's a great sound to hear as you roll over at 3am....

Both pets I've owned have been enormous dogs, so letting them sleep in the same bed as me was impossible. One of us would end up on the floor because there wasn't room for both. And I don't sleep on the floor unless it's at ACen. Me human, him dog.

If I had a cat, maybe. But since I'm allergic to cats, that, sadly, isn't going to happen.
