AWARDS LIST
-Best Individual Novice (Friday and Saturday)
-Best Individual Journeyman (Friday and Saturday)
-Best Group (One for both)
-Best Prop (One for both)
-Three judges awards (One for both)
-Rising Star (One for both)
-Best Child (One for both days and only if a minimum of three compete)
-Best American Based Cosplay (One for both)
-The Thriftiness Award (Closet Cosplay)(One for both)

RULES
-The person who made your costume must be present to answer questions by the judges.
-You MAY NOT compete with the same costume in the Hallway and the Masquerade. I go to both events, if I see you wearing the same costume, you will be disqualified.
-You may compete both days, but the costumes must be different and you can only compete once per day.
-If a part of your costume (prop, wig) was made by someone else, you must tell the judges.
-You need to bring at least one progress photo that is visible to the judges via print out, cell phone, ipod, computer, etc (we will be lax on this rule)

Probably a silly question, but what's the difference between Novice and Journeyman? (I probably pick novice just for asking the question....). I've never tried entering in anything like this before.

Haha, then you are probably a Novice. If you've never won any awards or entered any contest and haven't been doing it for very long, then you are a Novice.

okay to further someone else's question, I have been doing costumes for awhile theatrically, but have never done a cosplay contest or won any awards for cosplay ? so would you suggest novice or journeymen? im torn because my skill level is more journeymen but i have not ranking or awards yet so i feel i should start in the bottom and work my way up?? thanks

Okay I have a question. One of the categories is best "American based cosplay", forgive me if this sounds stupid but does this mean that you are allowed to submit a non japanese/anime related cosplay into the Hallway masquerade like an American originated character (like say batman for example?) I just want to clarify is all. Also, are there limited spots for the Hallway masquerade like with the main masquerade?

Well, I think it's more about craftsmanship than awards. If you are lost, the judging will find a place where you belong :3 Don't worry!

Here's my question:

I want to compete, but my partner and I are running a table in the Artists' Alley this year, and we're cosplaying a team (Plusle and Minun) so we'd both have to leave the table in order to present ourselves. I'm sure we can find someone to watch our space while we duck out to do this, but how much time will it take, do you think? (It makes a difference if we have to ask someone for 10 minutes vs. an hour!! ^^; ) Is it possible to make an appointment in order to keep that time away from the table to a minimum?

If no accommodation for this exists, that's totally fine!! I'd just like to know so we can prepare accordingly, and if there's anything that can make this easier, that'd be super awesome and we'd squee.

We'd very likely do this on Saturday, but can make it happen on Friday if that's a less crowded time or such.

Where exactly is the hallway contest being held? My costume is difficult to move around in (by a long-shot) and I need to plan ahead the best way to maneuver my way to the judge's table. Any ideas?

I have made special arrangements for people in the past and this is no problem. If you come in and tell me that we talked about this on the forums, I will make sure that you get in and out. Sadly, every year traffic in the Hallway is different and with the new office locations, I'm not sure how busy we are going to be. But when you come in, I will put you in the beginning of the line since I don't want you to compromise your booth to be able to compete.

Also, as an alternative, if you guys want to come in one by one, we can keep the entry form aside so that we can talk to you and make sure you both are on the same entry. But that is up to you.

i hope the judges are truly lax about the progress photos.. i didnt even know about this contest as i was building our groups costumes...and only took one photo...which i might not be able to find...but i would Love to finally enter a cosplay competition at acen (i've done our group for the past 6 years). if i dont have any photographic proof... should i even bother entering? (we're doing a sweet black butler...)

My judges are very good at rooting out people who have not made their costumes. You should enter and don't be so nervous about it. They will just be asking you a lot more questions.
