Hi.
I'd like to use a fog machine for some outdoor photoshoots.
Let me preface this by saying that if it's too windy or too cold or raining, or most importantly, if this is going to present a problem for the con, just say so and I will not even proceed. (I don't want to lug that stuff around if I don't have to.)

It's mostly for creepy shots at night near the wooded area just east of the convention center. Since it will be during the night events, the trouble makers will be getting drunk/high or whatever they're doing at that time.

Logistically, this is going to be a pain, and night shoots have their own sets of problems, but I've had some interest from a few who are doing some horror cosplays.
I won't need assistance from the con, but the more who know what's going on the better.

If this poses any problems for the con, then I will scrub this project before it even starts.

Any input from the con side if this is workable?
Thanks.
TFC

Decide on your masters, people, for you cannot serve both. Either be an anime con or be a 3-day frat party. (I'm Done with ACen.)

I'm not entirely sure you can get to the wooded area east of the convention center, let alone that the convention center folks would be okay with you setting up a fog machine there. So I'm thinking that this plan is probably not workable.

According to Google Maps, that area is Chevalier Woods (Cook County Forest Preserve), so it should follow the general guidelines of forest preserves.

http://fpdcc.com/

http://www.fpdcc.com...=3&file=abt_3c6

Issues permits to the public for special activities not included in picnic permits and/or special use permits. Usually sold to a group, organization, or business. Permit types include: soccer clubs, baseball groups, model airplane groups, dog clubs, and commercial photography. Requires a fee and proof of liability insurance (Amounts vary; please see picnic permit page).

Generally a single photographer with limited equipment is allowed to do photography without a permit, but depending on your setup I'd suggest looking into if you need a permit or not. Generally government lands close at or before sunset, so keep that in mind too.

Ah, I see what the OP was getting at. (Sorry, New Year's Day hangovers were futzing with my cognitive processes.) If you are going to go into the forest preserve, the con has nothing to do with it, so it's up to you to do the research and not get arrested.

It's right next to the parking lot, and still on convention center/hotel property.
The county is willing to issue a permit, but they say that it's not in the preserve, but adjacent to it.. I'm awaiting verification from them before I start the paperwork for it (if needed).
You can see the area in the link below.(Unfortunately pictures aren't enabled)

Again, it's all dependent on a lot of variables. If the weather is bad or cosplayers get indecisive or won't commit to the shoot, then it's off. I don't make plans based on maybes.

Hello TFC,
After looking at this thread we have determined that the question about this is not one for IRT. Since it will be a photoshoot it falls under a different department. You need to contact Brianna Carter at gatherings@acen.org
This event can be coordinated properly through her. Thanks though for the heads up. Its always good for IRT to know what's going on.

Thanks for the replies.
This isn't an event per se', but just a shoot done at the request of a couple of cosplayers. Doing this for them is the main purpose, but if someone stops by and wants photos, I won't refuse.

Again, there are a lot of variables in this, so it may not even happen, but If I don't have a commitment from the cosplayers by May 1st. then they'll have to find another photographer.

I personally don't see a problem with this, but if you go into the forest preserve, you'd be dealing with the city of Rosemont.

Generally, they don't check the woods at night, but just in case, you can contact the Rosemont Park District at:
6140 Scott Street

The Village of Rosemont does not own the forest preserve. The forest preserve belongs to Cook county. Cook County has it's own police force that deals with the forest preserve. TFC would need to seek permission from Cook County. If you go to any Cook County forest preserve you will see a big sign at the entrance that says it closes at sunset.
