Okay, I love discussing this topic. Speculating the popular fanart for the next year is something I enjoy. So let's talk about it. Anyone that is doing prints, buttons, badges, keychains, or anything else with fanart on it: What series are you planning on doing for next year?

I try to have a balance of current in Japan, current in the U.S., obsessed fan fandoms, classics, (and then original too, but that doesn't pertain to this topic). So here is my list (though I'm sure I'll forget a few) of fanart I'm planning for 2011. (+)=I predict it will grow from 2010, (*)=I predict it will stay the same as 2010, and (-)=I predict the support and love for that fandom is dying and then I'll mark my big 2010 sellers with (2010 big seller).

Panty and Stocking (+)
Star Driver (+)
Star Trek (+/- limbo till 2012) (2010 big seller)
Inception (-)
Avartar the Last Airbender (+)
Gintama (*)
Naruto (-) (2010 big seller)
Bleach (-) (2010 big seller)
xxxHolic (*)
D.Gray-man (-) (2010 big seller)
Vocaloid stuff (*)
Soul Eater (-) (2010 big seller)
Gurren Lagann (-)
Assassin's Creed (+)
Final Fantasy VII (*) (2010 big seller)
other Final Fantasy (*) (2010 big seller)
Kingdom Hearts (*) (2010 big seller)
Legend of Zelda (*) (2010 big seller)
Persona series (*)
Chobits (*) (2010 big seller)
The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (*)
Azumanga Daioh (*) (2010 big seller)
Nura: Rise of the Yokai Clan (+)
One Piece (*)
FMA or FMA Brotherhood (+) (2010 big seller)
Fruits Basket (*)
Ouran High School Host Club (*)
Samurai Champloo (*)
Vampire Knight (-)
Cowboy Bebop (*)
Outlaw Star (*)
Nabari No Ou (-)
Kekkaishi (+)
Hetalia (I'm not sure about me doing this one yet) (+)

My top ten fanart characters that sell: #1-Spock, #2-Link, #3-Gaara, #4-Grimmjow, #5-Kakashi, #6-Moogle, #7-Itachi, #8-Ed(FMA), #9-Chiyo-chan, #10-Kirk

I honestly think that a lot of whether a series sells though is what character or characters you draw. I don't know. Go forth, discuss. I'll share knowledge and hopefully other people will too. So we can discuss fandoms, characters, last year's sales, speculations on next year's sales, or whatever having to do with the Artist Alley and fandoms. Go!

Really? I'm very surprised that star trek fan art would do so well at an anime convention, heh. Live and learn, I suppose!

My table doesn't have much fan art except for Final Fantasy XI and Kingdom Hearts, but the plushies and crafts I do have went like hot cakes! -well, mostly the Kingdom Hearts-

Yeah, I just did it because I wanted a set of the Trek buttons myself. Spock stole the lead in button sales from Link almost immediately (and I sell a lot of Link buttons). It took me by surprise too. People get really excited to see the series in anime style.

It surprises me how well plushes and crafts do at these larger conventions. Actually, just in general lately. I hope that trend continues.

Keeping in mind that I have never been to a con as big as Acen, and I might will probably have to have to expand...

-Legend of Zelda
-Star Trek
-A:tLA
-Firefly
-Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog (I sold out of some of these things last year, at Anime Detour!)
-300 (Yes, seriously)
-Naruto (mostly old designs that didn't get sold)
-Mario Bros.
-World of Warcraft (<3)
-Portal, TF2 and other such games
-Left 4 Dead 1 and 2
-X-Men
e: -Ouran High School Host Club
-Evangelion (maybe)
ex2: -Fruits Basket
-Possibly something weird like Sabriel or The Little Prince. Fanart for novels tends to be more difficult to get across. :|

Plus I'll have some original characters and crafts and such. (Yay, knitting!)

Actually, I think that a lot of people really like the sci-fi stuff too. People are crazy about Trek and Dr. Who for sure. And you were at Detour with Dr. Horrible stuff?!?! Ugh, I wish I could have gotten away from my table more. I didn't really browse at all until late Saturday, and then just for a moment.

Waaah! I just followed the link in your signature, and I have totally bought things from you! I have the Spock and Axel badges. Was your booth also the one with the widdle chibi buddons? Namely Link and Heartless? Cause I definitely have those, too. :3 Though my Link button is starting to mold, of all things, cause I get caught in rainstorms a little too frequently...

Ok, back on topic now. </derail>

I will admit that I am a little worried going in to an anime convention with so many scifi and video game things. :/ But I have so much less time now, in college, that I have to carefully distribute my hobbies and unfortunately, sitting in front of the computer watching anime has been pushed about a bit. :<

Ok, well as far as fandom related items I'll have prints, key chains and bookmarks (I have other stuff, too, but it's not fanart).

This is my current list of fan works I have to offer (at cons - I have more but I don't sell it for various reasons):

- Fushigi Yuugi
- The Legend of Zelda
- Arata Kangatari
- Final Fantasy VII/VIII
- Sailor Moon
- World of WarCraft
- Aa, Megami-sama
- Vocaloid
- Kingdom Hearts
- Naruto
- Fate/Stay Night
- FullMetal Alchemist
- Bleach
- Inuyasha
- MAR

What I should add by ACen:

- Avatar: The Last Airbender
- .Hack
- Chobits
- Cowboy Bebop
- Record of Lodoss War
- Kuroshitsuji (maybe)
- Some Miyazaki based fan works

...and more. ^^;

And of course I'll still have all my original stuff as well. =3

Wow, is NO ONE making Pokemon?? O_o They're a perennial favorite at my table, and with the Black and White games coming out next year, we're expecting to see extra interest!

the fandoms I have done in the past are:
Avatar: the Last Airbender
Bleach
Cardcaptor Sakura (really, just Kero, but he's enough!!)
Dragonball Z
Elfen Lied (just Nyu, but again, she's enough)
Evangelion
Final Fantasy - 1, 7 and 8 mostly, though we've done characters from others as well
Full Metal Alchemist
Gravitation (just Kumagoro)
Kingdom Hearts
Miyazaki (Totoro, No-Face, etc)
Naruto
Nintendo (really, just Link and Megaman, though again I've done others)
Pokemon
Record of Lodoss War
Vocaloid

Some new ones for this year:
Star Trek - TOS and TNG at first
Star Wars
Sanrio
Doctor Who

Some fandoms I've done commissions for in the past, but don't offer as stock (yet!):
Ouran High School Host Club
Higurashi ... no Koro Ni (I can never remember the full name of this)
Deathnote
Sailor Moon
Hellsing
Disgaea
Labyrinth
Inuyasha
Chrono Cross

I have also noticed that Naruto and Bleach are waning in popularity, but I think that there will always be a few people interested. Right now, my plan is to bring a few from each fandom with me, but not ALL, since I have to travel far to get to this con and I'd rather use the space to bring MOAR POKEMANS ;-)

I don't has as many fandoms represented with my work as others do. I have a ton of original work.

But I can tell you there will definitely be some

TF2
Other Valve stuff
Soul Eater
Trigun
Bebop
Bleach

See, I have next to nothing fandom wise XD

Edit: May try to squeeze some Dr. Who, Inception, and various comic related fanartsies in there.

I'm actually glad you said that! I am going to be making some Dragonite plushies, maybe some others if I'm feeling creative. ^^

I have noticed that anything Pokeman has come back with a vengeance. I think it must be because it is not only a timely thing, but also a nostalgic thing for some people. I thought about doing a little bit, but my list is soooo long that I'm not sure I could fit it in. I hope that they continue to sell well at your table.

My current selection of fanart isn't terribly broad, though I'm hoping to have expanded quite a bit between now and ACen.

Current selection:
Tsubasa
Kingdom Hearts
The Girl Who Leapt Through Time
Final Fantasy X
Fullmetal Alchemist
The Sacred Blacksmith
Hetalia
DNAngel
Ouran High
Bleach

Things I'll be adding by ACen:
Wider Final Fantasy selection
Sailor Moon
Dragonball Z
Rurouni Kenshin
Pokemon
One Piece
Soul Eater
Inu Yasha
Chobits
Eureka 7
Evangelion

Hopefully quite a bit more by the con, if I manage to make it in.

Here's my point of view as an Artist Alley fan...

First, I look for creative things. When I see something unexpected (room signs, P-chan piggy banks, sprite art), I'll take notice. It helps if the item is not too large or fragile.

Second, I look for fan-related things relevant to my interests. There's plenty of fanart based on Bleach or Zelda or other well-known series. But I'm more interested in stuff that isn't yet xbox hueg, or that is a little out of date. At ACen 2011, I'm hoping to see fan-made works inspired by the following:

= Squid Girl
= Hayate the Combat Butler
= Yotsuba and!
= Franken Fran
= Sakura Taisen
= Scribblenauts
= Peggle
= Dragon Quest (especially games 1-7)
= Game Dev Story

I admit some of these series are kinda obscure, and have only a few fans...

Yotsuba!! We have a design of her! There's a pic on our blog (hookedonchibis.blogspot.com) or her being held by our awesome PR lady. ^_^

Since I last posted, We've added a hodgepodge of somewhat random characters, cherry-picked from across fandoms, including but not limited to: Ramona Flowers (Scott Pilgrim), Helen Narbon (from the Narbonic webcomic - at the request of the artist!), Yotsuba, Death the Kid, and Zelgadis (Slayers). Also, weirdly, sales of Naruto dolls in my shop have gone up. O_o Maybe it's not as dead as we'd thought (hoped?) ... ^^;

Wow...I generally do original art (because somehow I've never been interested in doing fanart as a hobby--but I'm ok with it in general), and it's cool to see how well you guys know the market for different fandoms. Like, making predictions and everything!

It always seemed to me like Naruto and Bleach fandoms were probably never going to die. I thought Harry Potter stuff was really popular too, but that's the extent of my fandom knowledge.

The only fanart I've ever drawn that wasn't a commission is that of Sailor Moon. Hah! I wonder if I'm showing my age with that comment...

Since you guys mentioned WarCraft, I was considering making some StarCraft II fanart...I wonder if that would sell at Acen.

I told my boyfriend that and he made a squealy sound, so.. yeah.
(He plays zerg would probably go nuts over, say, a cute little baneling or something. ...My spelling probably shows how much of this game I have actually played. :< )

I've got a weird chunk of fandoms going! I don't normally do a lot of fanart (I make most of my money off of commissions during the year), but here's what I'm going to have at my table:

- Pokémon
- Glee
- Di Gi Charat
- Full Metal Panic!

I'm trying to come up with some other ideas. It's definitely crunch time to get these done!
