Whiskey, gin or sake.
Honestly, Cubs and Sox fans have literally NO reason to fight. As I Sox fan, I care more about what the Twins or the Tigers are doing than the Cubs, and Cubs fans should have their eyes on the Cardinals and the Reds (And I guess the Brewers). Cubs and Sox aren't even in the same LEAGUE, forget the same division, and if one makes the playoffs, it doesn't even affect the other. So I see no reason why we can't root for each other's teams.
On a more on-topic note, Lenne cites sources, which is very UN-poopiehead-like. She's cool in my book.

I mean the main reason there's beef is because we're in the same city, simple as that. Plus it's a tradition that's fed by those who don't get (or even know) that the two teams are in different leagues or have unfounded reasons for disliking the other.

Holy crap... someone has the same logistic thinking as I do. THANK YOU 1000x! My friend is a Yankees fan and has the same view on the Mets.
But srsly, the only reason I hate the Sox are the fans (but Sox fans probably say the same about us, so I'm not gonna say anything)

Yeah, we do. I have a very vivid memory of when I was young, and a huge fat cubs fan punched a 15 year old girl in the face for wearing a Sox hat in Wrigleyville. So I became a Sox fan. My entire family is Cubs fans, though, and we get along just fine. Obviously not all cubs fans go around punching defenseless people.
On a semi-related note, my cousin Harry is the Harry on the afternoon saloon Weekdays from 2-7 on AM 1000. You should listen. It's run by ESPN, but it's more rational conversation and less yelling and macho-y stuff. /promotion
