Recently a friend in a role-playing chat boasted about her recently acquisition of a set of blank 'artist's trading cards'. I had never heard about them before and asked what they were, and she replied, "Just what they sound like, Google it!"

I came up with a plethora of how-to websites and was really fascinated by the idea. Basically they're baseball card sized artworks that artists trade to one another for the simple sake of sharing their art, usually leaving their contact information on the back of the card (website, e-mail, etc. ). They can be sketches, paintings, drawings, collages...really whatever you'd like to put onto the card. ^^

This website's a bit more detailed what an ATC is and how to make/distribute them.

Anyhoo, I thought it might be a fun idea to get some artists in the alley involved with this, just for the simple sake of distributing art amongst ourselves and having a bit of a souvenir. What do you guys think?

My friend recently bought a few of these, she draws cute stylized animals, and she gave me a shark. X3
I'd never heard of them before, either, but it kind of seems like something that could be overpriced.
All they are are basically pieces of cardstock a little bit smaller than a notecard. I don't know how much
they run, so I can't say for sure, this is just my thought. XD

But I really want to get some of those, I looove drawing on little pieces of paper, for some reason it's easier
for me to think out composition, and it'd be fun to trade with different people. :'D

For raw materials you can check out a local print shop. They can have a wide range of different kinds, "weight," and colors of paper, as well as all sorts of different finishes.

They may be more than happy to sell (or even give) you small amounts of "leftover" paper to experiment with. Sometimes you can beg the "waste" parts left over from a die-cutting job which can give you small circles, odd rectangles etc to work with.

There may even be some people here on the forums <cough> who have access to such stuff and would be willing to pass it on.
This space intentionally left blank.

I love art trading cards! If you're going to do a lot, it's probably more cost-effective to make your own, but you can buy 10 to 12 packs at your local art store for a not-too-exorbitant price (they're occasionally included in Hobby Lobby's rotating 40% off sales; that's when I buy). I'd be totally willing to do a set for trade with other AA people. Fun! :D

Honestly, I think selling them defeats the whole purpose of it. I heard most people simply trade them with other artist's for the fun of it. I guess it would be like an overgrown business card. XD

Anyhoo, if any artist's want to make some, I'll bring some to trade and pass around!

This sounds like a blast!
I'm hoping to get a table this year too! If I do, I'm definitely going to doodle up a few of these to share with other artists!
