I have a bizarre fear. And just what fear is that? Fear of balloons popping. I hate being startled, and balloons popping are the most startling things ever... they scare the crap outta me .__.

No bugs or animals scare me - except ticks. Ticks scare the mess out of me. They don't smash when you smash them, and grow like twice their size when they gorge themselves on blood. I don't know why but ticks are terrifying.

hmmm at times i'm afraid of opening the blinds of my window at night (for a view of the sf bay area) because i think there'll be a face there staring back at me, be it a ghost or zombie or just some creeper O___o

I have a bizarre fear of butterflies. Well, not butterflies, but their potential. I mean, what if one day instead of a butterfly, some small razor bearing insect of death emerges from a cocoon?

centipedes for me. those things are f'n creepy. they are harmless bugs but they get me going every time i see one.

Seriously, though, strangers (usually male) who are significantly taller than me have always put me on edge ><;;;

And, um....bugs. My fear of bugs that bite and/ or sting is understandable (got stung on the finger when I was 5, and have been traumatized ever since. That, and mosquitoes and other bugs seem to see me as an all-you-can-eat buffet). My fear of lady bugs, flies, etc, etc...not so much.

It isn't a fear so much as a very strong, almost compulsive aversion, but I HATE HATE HATE the sound/feeling of metal eating utensils against my teeth. At home/in my dorm room, I only have plastic utensils. I'm alright with using them when I go out to eat because I realize I have no choice, but otherwise, I avoid it like the plague. No idea why.

I don't think I'm particularly afraid of anything that's "absurd" though I am afraid of hearing the sound of Nails on Chalkboard, but not to the extent where seeing a chalk board makes me freak out and leave the room, xD

I'd have to say my fears are pretty reasonable, death, cemeteries at night...

Come to think of it, I always imagine someone smashing my head with a sledge hammer while I'm asleep. It's not really a fear since I always think that and I can go to sleep at night. I only think that because anyone can walk into my room. I'm a very light sleeper due to that.

In all honesty I don't know any fears except what you mentioned. Death mainly. Waking up in a psych ward; I don't know. I guess I said that because I just finished watching Shutter Island at the time I posted.

I can understand that. I'm the same way about the feeling of Styrofoam on my teeth; I have a tendency of unconsciously chewing on straws the rims of Styrofoam cups, and I hate the way certain types of Styrofoam feels against my teeth. ><

My fear is that my post won't quite be as awesome as Teko's. Oh, and spiders. Damn little eight-legged freaks of nature.

I'm afraid to talk on the phone. If it's not close family members I break out into a sweat and sound really rushed/embarrassed. It takes me about 10-20 minutes just to sit down to call some one. I have to take deep breathes and sometimes write down what I have to say... >>;; yeah. I don't know if what's wrong with me is an actual phobia or just me being stupid. Probably the stupidity half.

Here's absurd for you.

1) Jumping into water. I'm not talking about jumping into puddles. I'm talking jumping off of a surface into a body of water, like a lake or pool. (I once had a gym teacher who - after I put on a life vest, since I swim about as well as a rock - had to give me a little push into the pool just to get me into the deep end. Words can't describe how peeved I was at her for that.) I don't know why, but I simply can't bring myself to do it.

2) This sounds absurd just thinking about it and typing it out. Walking around at night near mirrors during thunderstorms. My guess is this originated sometime during my childhood - it wasn't until I was in my mid to late teens that I got over my fear of storms, and I've never liked seeing reflections of myself in the dark. Must've gotten spooked by a combination of the two one night when venturing from my room to go potty. ^^;;

3) I used to be horrifically afraid of sleeping with the bedroom closet door even the slightest bit open. Whether it was in my house or a guest room elsewhere, I absolutely could not stand to have the closet door ajar. I blame this on Poltergeist, having watched that once when I was young. *shudder* Thankfully, this fear has died out, but only within the last handful of years. Not even kidding.

4) This last one....well, it's been gone for over 10 years, but I used to sleep with my hands firmly underneath my pillow. Why? Because when I was a kid (anyone else seeing a pattern here? lol) I watched a silly horror movie called The Gate. If you haven't seen this movie, a special little scene occurs involving a cursed eye, a kid, and a demon. (Not a tattoo eye, but an actual, honest to god eye.) Well, this had me absolutely terrified that said demon would invade my house and curse me the same way. So up until I was about 14, I would sleep with my hands under my pillows.

Yeah...I was a wuss.
