hey guys!

i'm thinking about doing AA this coming year, and i have a quick question for the artists who have been in it before:

-when you sell buttons/keychains/etc. of already-existing anime characters (ie. selling buttons of bleach characters that you drew), did you have to get permission regarding copyright first before selling?

thanks a lot! =D

Generally fanart is fine, but I had advised just to make sure everything was on the up and up. Basically, you have to prove you're the artist of the work (signature, whatever), which is ordinarily not a problem. But if there are any questions about what's okay to sell in the Alley, that's when you ask the DH of Exhibit Space.

For example: if you're selling buttons of already existing characters that YOU DREW, that should be okay. Selling buttons of existing characters that are screencapped from the series? Not okay. Does that make sense?

Also this is an excellent thread to check, which is the Artists' Alley rules and regulations that every artist should check.

It's only natural that a staffer of Anime Central is able to do this.

As a general follow-up. Anime Central does not have any policy restricting Fan Art, but that is not saying that there are no laws or regulations, either Federal, State, or International, regarding the use of copyright material. I advise that anyone who intends to sell FanArt, should brush up on the laws and understand what you are getting yourself into, otherwise you could be committing illegal activity, which Anime Central can not condone.
