So I've heard that Chicago is undergoing an epidemic right now of bed bugs. Anyone know the status of the Hyatt concerning this?

Unless you got something going on there in the next 7 months before ACen, I don't think I'd be too worried, but then again I'm not keeping up on this story.

Rosemont has a giant superhero that obliterates all bedbugs that set foot in their town! >:D
Courtesy of America...of course. ;D

No idea, I'm sure it'll become better though within 7 months.

I might be missing a few but ACen has survived SARS and Bird Flu with no problems, there shouldn't be anything to worry about with bed bugs.

We not only defied it, we mocked it, or am I the only one who remembers the dude running around cosplaying as "Swine Flue" that year? (I saw him when I was leaving Masquerade)

Not only will a nice mass of them leave bites all of over your body, those bites will swell and become painful sores that can last for quite a while.

not to mention they are VERY easy to bring home with you on your clothes and spread around your house and are extremely hard to completely kill them all. They are like 100 times worse then if your pets get fleas.

I'm planning a trip to Disney soon - and like all good scares this one has quite taken over people's obsession.
http://news.yahoo.co...edbug_conundrum

http://www.bedbugsguide.com/
There's a decent guide on them. When you get to a hotel (any hotel) leave your things outside the room. Then pull the sheets and take some sticky tape and pat around the edges of the bed and headboard - see if you find anything. Even move the mattress aside. If you find any - alert the hotel manager and ask for a different room.

Again - even upscale clothing stores have found them (usually from furniture or people from an infected location - a delivery truck that picked up a used sofa that they didn't know was infected etc) and it's been in the news a lot more because of that.

I lived in china during SARS, so things like the current bedbug scare makes me just roll my eyes.

Which is why youma doesn't worry me. :]

The media likes to overhype things to put people in a panic state of mind. The flu epidemic was a great example. My thing is this, if you are concerned about these things, its ok to check your bedspreads and what not. But I can assure you that things will be ok. If anything happens you all will be the first to know. So just chill everyone. Acen isnt until May I am sure the hotel is aware of this and they are making sure that their hotel is safe and sanitary on a daily basis. They Hyatt is a big money maker. They cant afford to lose a lot of $$$ over bed bugs.

I don't recall any issues in the past years, but I'll try to do some research on it and check my room before settling in. :zombie:

Thankfully it isn't a zombie outbreak.

You can check http://bedbugregistry.com/ to see if anyone reported bed bugs recently as a precaution. Keep in mind that not everyone reports there but it's nice to know.

If we destroy the main staircase, block the fire exits, and shut off the elevators, the Hyatt is eminently defensible against a zombie horde. They might get through the glass on the ground floor, but not to the first floor. Up there is a restaurant and a bar, so we're in good shape--and we'd have plenty of weeaboos to use as cannon fodder. "Dude...that zombie down there, the one who looks like Rei. She totally dissed on Naruto, man. You should give her what for."

My only worry would be the zombie apocalypse hitting on Sunday. Everyone's acting like a zombie on Sunday. We'd never know which witch is which.

Lmao, actually.. 1) that wasn't a guy -- was one of my best friends from grade school <3, 2) she was dressed up asJapanese punk band AntiFeminism 's vocalist/awesomecrazypants Kenzi ( who dresses up funcrazy [Dubya head before, and I think a cow once?] at shows, lights himelf on fire (OveGlove!), dives into tacks/glass he broke and is a fun & friendly person -- she was lucky enough to meet & hang out with him in Japan this summer after a concert! :3). But she did get a LOT of SWINEFLUUGAMEEEEEESH! over it for a looong time after (lmaosototallynotfrommeforawhile;D)~ x3

Never know Witch witch is Witch?~ ;D ..........Just ask Coach and Zoey if you're not sure Witch!~ ;DDD

And lmao, if we get a zombie apocalypse, I /SO/ know who I'd be bringing to con with me for THAT adventure ;D~ We've got food, sacrifices to the horde, enough liquor for a lifetime +1 of mollies, a solid layout for fortressing......Plus, we've already got ninja swords in the Dealers Hall so ammo will never be a worry.. and we can just make the horde bleed to death from their ears with the bass from the rave~ x3 (IMPENETRABLE IRON FORTRESS ACEN, GO! 8D)

(unless we get Tanks, oh god xD)

So, rumor is that there are bedbugs at my work! I guess several floors in the building have had bedbug infestations in their office furniture. Kind of paranoid I'm going to bring them home.

Some are blaming clothing and fabric imports for the infestation. But who knows for sure.
