It's up to personal tastes. I hate postmodern art--you know, where someone throws buckets of paint everywhere, then barfs on it, and presto, it's art. I used to work briefly at an art gallery, and we had a guy bring in a HUGE piece (took four of us to carry it in)...of naked devils. That looked like it had been drawn by a three year old. Who then overturned a vat of glitter on it.
I asked the artist, "So, uh, what is it?" His reply, "Well, what do you see it as?" I didn't want to tell him the truth, but it must've shown on my face, because he got huffy and told me it was insured for a million dollars.
But I love manga, and to some that's the antichrist of the art world.

Me? If you can draw a stick figure that's art. Everyone has their own definition of what art is and I believe anyone no matter the skill or talent can make art. I have a tough trouble being critical about other people's work but when it comes to my own I am a perfectionist and torture myself by making sure it's exactly how I want it or I do it over again and again...
and again...
My favorite painting is Tournee Du Chat Noir, a painting by Rodolphe Salis, I have a print of it on canvas on my wall and my mom has one she hangs on the wall in her house that I grew up seeing all the time. Must be why I like it.

Thus meaning it is a product of the multi-individual creativity of man (and women <3). They only have meaning to Human beings but that meaning is interepreted by others, thus meaning it is a way for us to try to convey our thoughts or feelings to another. It's almost like a language, cept, the words have the truest meaning to the product's creator(s). It can also be functional, examples being buildings, tupperware, sexual products, media, more sexual products and phallic symbols such as this one:
In the end, Art is Art. An Acronym, a Thought made Real, and phallic symbols.

Art can be a painting, a photo, a dance, music, a sculpture, a way something is presented [ie: room arrangement or origami, something abstract, a sketch, a passion....Some of these make sense just only to me so sorry if you dont' get it lol ^^ [I have my own little world]

i like and agree with one of art's defining characteristics being unique or original.
i do think that's one of the most basic requirements of artwork.
also, i think instead of the last part, i might say 'art is something expressed that could not have been defined through basic verbal communication.'

this is definitely true. art has nothing to do with ostentatious visual appeal or realism or technique; it's about the passion the artist put into creating it.
passion tends to come through to most people and the people who 'get it' will appreciate it. obviously, there will always people who don't and look at things, like for example, guernica and go, 'what? this picasso guy can't even draw!' but the people who do get it, will appreciate how tragic and beautiful it is.

The definition of art is a traveling definition that changes from one person's mind to another... what one person portrays as art another person is going to find a mass of garbage
Art is the hidden idea of what moves a soul in expressive form, the word is an open window to what a particular person's interests and drives are, simplified down into a three letter word everyone can identify with materialistically.
If it does not move you, it is not art. What does not move you, moves countless others. Therefore, everything is considered art in a world where billions of eyes will see and judge for themselves
"art" is just a simplified word... what it actually means has no bearing, just what it stands for... what it means is a personal definition that is different with everyone on earth... that is why art is so appealing, because it expresses a piece of what a person feels and reaches out to those that share the same interests... in retrospect art could be a material form of priceless, personal self expression that is used to seek out others with similar interests

Hey everyone. I wanted to thank those of you that posted. Ive been doing research on a type of art that I am working on, and I am trying to understand the circles that I am a part of right now...
Its hard for me to put whats inside of me into words. My artwork actually says it all for me
