i like your avitar, nice reference to Darkwing Duck
but anyway as for stalkers, best thing would be stay with friends or in a group of people you know. there is also a line between running into the same person constantly and being stalked, sure its a big place but you dont know where they want to go and it may end up being where you are. i think id be the wrong person to stalk, i always have a knife on me somewhere

I don't understand what makes a creeper a creeper... well, I do... but most of the time people do not want to hear it because I'm basically calling people shallow a**holes
if a ripped attractive stranger that dresses nice, smells good and has massive amounts of confidence talks to you or tries to initiate conversation... well he's not a creeper, he's the hot con guy that you had contact with
if a socially awkward overweight/super wimpy, ugly, nervous stranger with mediocre dress and cleanliness talks to you or tries to initiate conversation ... well that guy is obviously a creeper but you do not have to ovaries to tell him to stop trying or that you genuinely feel bothered... so he is oblivious to your annoyance and does not know what you are feeling so he continues... making him a creeper
see how that works?
I've had con stalkers here and there... It's a very simple concept though... I told them how I felt about 15 year old girls rubbing up on me and they stopped... Simple
(that is one of my stories... my "cosplay" involves me being completely shirtless or open coat/bare chest and three 14/15 year old thought it would be a good idea to poke and rub my chest while conversing... I'm 23)
which leads me to another issue... if you have a skimpy cosplay and you are attractive.... I would hope you are smart enough to know things like this will happen and hope you have enough common sense to handle this issue yourself and not make a big deal over things that can be solved with a simple "sorry, I do not feel comfortable right now... I really need to go"
and all this big guy talk or weapon talk... ummm... I think you miss the point of stalking... usually stalkers want to sleep with you and are of the opposite sex (usually)... now if you want to be a tough guy and slit a womans throat because she is interested in you but too nervous to say anything and does not know how to handle the conversation that is your business

As for what makes a stalker, use common sense, don't be creepy. Like if you're hanging around someone in the background, not saying anything, you're being a creepy stalker. If you talk to them and they are just not interested, leave them alone. The important thing is to use common sense.

does not matter what it is called, it still lands you in jail.. even a threat with one is assault with adealy weapon without intend to harm or kill and that is a class C felony
a knife is dumb to carry at any point.
#1 people carry GUNS and have licenses to conceal them... once you pull out a knife you are just a target
#2 easy way to land in jail... even if an unarmed person assaults you first the moment you bring out a knife you are in the wrong.. plus a pocket knife really is not going to do much but annoy someone if they are hell bent on harming you
I'm speaking from experience from when I was a teenager... lose the knife, it's just an object that is in your pocket that you are itching to use... and that itch is going to land you in a sh*tstorm
@ 23 I'm still recouping from the legal ramifications...
if you want a REAL weapon... use your veins as whips
that's what I do now...

I'll tell you a stalker story... now I'm a pretty ripped guy alright? so a friend of mine in our group who is a rather attractive female had a creepy stalker come up to her and actually pat her on the head and just stand with us and try to talk to her... you could physically see she was bothered... so what did I do with my huge muscles, Recoom chin and raging will of man? I said "Hey... I think our other friends want us up in the hotel room" and we left
problem solved...
it's an anime convention people... not a damn MMA tournament, save the tough guy crap for someone who cares

In all seriousness, though, in response to Morbid's initial post, I kind of have to disagree. A person can be considered a stalker/ creeper and still be the well groomed pretty boy with the nice smile. As a matter of fact, those people can be more dangerous because you do have your guard down, and next thing you know you're running into him (or her, for that matter) far too many times for it to just be a coninkidink resulting from you having the same interests.

I didn't mean attractive people cannot be rapists and try to get your butt (my humor references... excuse them)I was saying that the non-pretty boy socially awkward guys usually don't even get a chance because people are just automatically... "CREEPER!"
and it's the sad truth... they are usually the guys that treat women the best and mean no harm as well, they simply are just socially awkward is all

Maybe at first, but I don't care if the guy and smells of roses, if he's showing up literally everywhere I go and constantly sitting next to/ near me, I'm abandoning my lone wolf con going ways and traveling in a group.
Then again, I'm also the kind of person who realizes that having "non-pretty boy socially awkward guys" talk to you and share your interests comes with the territory of being an anime fan.

There are two "no-issue" states in the country (meaning states that do not allow any form of conceal/carry by private citizens): Wisconsin and Illinois. They do not recognize permits from other states either. This is not to say that people won't necessarily be carrying a firearm, but they sure don't have a license to be carrying it concealed (especially in Chicago).
I'm not going to go into depth, but there is some truth about the rest of what you say. There are definitely some shallow people at society in general, and cons are no exception. Conversely the victim of "creeper" advances may also be socially awkward and generally nervous. Even if the person approaching them has no ill intent, the person may take it that way simply because they're not used to attention.

Man, I agree all too well what you are saying. I've noticed stuff like this. (Granted like with what Ichigo said, if someone is attractive and stalking, and just because he/she is attractive, the person lets their guard down and something happens.)
But anyways tho, yeah, no matter how you slice it, you RARELY ever hear anyone complaining about an attractive person being a stalker.
I challenge someone to have a story of an attractive person "being a stalker" that is a personal story and not one on the news.
However I must also add, that it's also like a cumulative effect. Most unattractive people are automatically dismissed. (because well, they don't appeal) So with no experience, SOME (as there are some who are creepy on purpose perse) are accidently creepy because they don't know how to come correctly since they never really get a chance.
Just my insights to why creepers exist since I swear I only hear it among the anime subculture.
