We can also discuss royalties between the con/you/myself, as this plans to be a sort of documentary.

Make the maid cafe actually serve delicious pastries, and perhaps some coffee and tea, and it's a deal.

Maybe they should be maid/catgirls. Especially if they can make a really good chai green tea latte. You know, with the right amount of creaminess, slightly naturally sweet with that hint of bitterness that comes with green tea, and warm, but never too hot to enjoy immediately. I could sit at a table then, and read some Discworld novels and every once in a while a maid/cat would come over and try to act cute, saying something like "nyah, can I get you anything else, nyah? :3". Then I'd respond "My dear girl, might you have a copy of the wall street journal?".

Unless I decide to bring my laptop to the cafe and pretend to write a screenplay. Yeah, it would be pseudo-Fellini influenced, but set in a class divided futuristic city, kind of like Fritz Lang's Metropolis, but with moar lazers. Then when the maid/cat would come over and say something like "Nyah, would you like a newspaper, nyah?", I'd be like "Nah, I'll just check Reuters".

Anyways, yeah, maid cafe would be a good idea, as long as it is equal parts maid and cafe. The one in NYCC/NYAF was just maids, and no food. I don't know if the convention center allows you to set up food, though, as it would take away from their income.

Just took a few moments to ponder the reality of an ACen maid cafe...blah there is going to be such a long queue for this even if there is some sort of time limit set up for cafe patrons' diversions.

Maybe not. When coinciding with the rest of Acen (Panels, Autograph sessions, ect), it might regulate itself.

Not yet. I've requested that discussions be reopened, but since I haven't heard anything back by now, that usually means that we don't have the time and resources pursue it right now. I recommend attending the feedback session held right after the Closing Ceremonies. The con chair and most of the executive staff will be there, and you can speak directly to them about having the cafe. Just be aware that the same restrictions that have prevented it so far will be in place next year too.

Usually they're "butlers" if they're male, not maids. xD

I went to Anime Weekend Atlanta in 2009, and thought about going to the maid cafe. The problem was an absurdly long line... (There's some lines at AWA for big events, but it's not typically a "line-con.")

Didn't go to Youmacon 2010, but the website description made it sound like the con organizers planned an amusing, non-fetish maid/butler cafe. If anyone was there, please state what you thought of the event.

What if we made a panel, with about 6-8 maids, and the maids brought the food and gave it away free?

It didn't get good reviews. Some of the complaints where
Reeked of BO, as if it was the video game room
Some of the maids were creepy
The food was mediocre while to cost was astronomical
Some of the guests were rude not only to other guests but to the maids themselves, causing the maids and butlers a lot of headache
Need a room? We find rooms.
Throw in a request and we will scour the web

Wow, I'd love to hear where those reviews came from. Seeing as the food was free, I dunno how that could be astronomical. Also, be careful who you call creepy. People who worked in the maid cafe may be on these boards, and thay would really hurt their feelings. Also, the guests were very nice to everyobe from what I saw.

The big hang up is t that ACen 's contract prevents any one who's not a contracted from the hotel or convetion center from selling or serving food.

Maybe the cafe could be held at another location, that way the convention's food policies wouldn't be an issue. Are there any public parks within reasonable walking/driving distance from the convention center where an outdoor maid cafe could be set up? It could be kind of like a giant picnic, but with maids and butlers serving. (I thought there was a botanical gardens or something nearby, but I don't know if they’d allow stuff like that there, either).

I don't know how convenient this would be, especially if the weather's bad, but I just thought I'd throw the idea out there.

There's a forest preserve near by. Acen would need a permit from the county and permits cost money. The con would need to shell out at least $500 fees to the county. The con would need
a 1,000,000 liability insurance certifacite. It would need to hire a forest preserve police man.

Wow. That sounds like a lot of work (not to mention a lot of money) for one event. Too bad. :(

Well Krystal, I have to be blunt on this. You are not going to get unbiased, unsugarcoated reviews on your normal site. No these did not come from 4chan. They were on a critic site that people do use their real names and real contact info, these were not anons. I'm sorry it hurt your feelings, but those were the reviews. If you can't handle the feedback, don't do it or improve. Also, its not like these were full out flaming attacks either.

Again, I am not trying to be mean, but I am also not going to sit there and say "OH MY GOD THAT WAS SOOOOOOO GREAT!!!!" when there actually was a problem. Are you ever going to learn if someone didn't tell you? No, so my post stands and I advise you take some of it to thought.

I'm sorry. I didn't mean to attack you. I just really want to know the site of the review, if it's public, that is. Could you post a link? And I knew it wasn't a flame, I was just saying that the food was free for the first hour, and those in the maid cafe could have felt bad for being called creepy.

But like I said. Could you post a link to this review? I would love to read it.

You can try searching cosfu.net , but the site is no longer maintained as they changed sites. They may still be there, but good luck navigating, the links are starting to break down
