I just got a sewing machine for my birthday (OMGYAY) and I would love to start making some outfits. But before I start I was wondering if anyone had any tips or any good "How to" sites or videos? I'm going to attempt to make Hungary's Elizabeth outfit, but I'm not gonna lie I'm a little nervous :x

Honestly if you have the money I would reccomend getting Lutterloh Pattern Making System. While it's a little expensive ($120 + shipping), it contains all the Master Patterns for making anything you want & it'll all be completely custom sized.
I bought it recently & it's great for making cosplay. You can mix & match different collar, sleeve, & shirt styles to make anything you want. Sadly I bought mine off Ebay & it's missing a page.
Plus you'll need the Designer's Curve, the Tailor's Curve and Vellum Paper, so it's actually closer to $200 for everything. The pattern fitting class DVD would also be helpful, since the company doesn't seem to be holding classes at fabric store anymore.

Sadly won't be attending ACen 2012. So I'll be taking my cosplay up a notch for 2013.

Check out Threadbanger.com (or their youtube channel of the same name). While they focas on mainly DIY, reconstruction, etc. it helped me get my foot in the door with sewing.

WOW! yeah i just put that at the top of my list of things to save up for! :] thanks so much! Lots of people have told me to get the designer's curve and the tailor's curve already so I'm going to go out this weekend to look for them. I should be able to find them at Joann's right? And lucky me I already have TONs of vellum paper!
thanks so much for your help!!
