For those who haven't heard, the new Green Lantern's costume has been garnering some mixed reviews.

Now, personally, I don't really see why people would be throwing a fit over how this costume is created. But, this may be because I'm not a die-hard fan of either Marvel or DC comic books. (I did watch some of the animated shows from both lines, but not every episode of every one.) To that end, of all the characters I DID pay attention to, Green Lantern was close to the bottom of the list.

So, I thought I'd ask this to you guys. (I know of a few of you who might take special interest in this.) What do you think of this rendition of the costume? Cool? Horrific? Somewhere in between? Meh? Go! ^^

P.S. In light of recent movie debates, your friendly neighborhood Valkyrie asks that we PLEASE keep the conversation mild-mannered, civil, and if anything, mirthful.

Movies get more fake by the day. Stormtroopers, for example, are mass produced in CGI labs and not really used en masse as extras.

Times unfortunately change, and some of the magic gets lost ):
I just wish they would have had an actual costume for him as Green Lantern.

I was a bit "T-ed" off...because they could have done his costume the same way (or even just similar to) the one they just did for Superman. But whatever...if the movie's done well enough, I'm ok with it.

I don't see a problem with it. Whoop-dee-doo, the costume is digital, I say it looks fine.

ima big fan of the green lantern series, and i personally have no problem with it
I was skeptical at first when I heard all the costumes were gonna be CGI, but when I seen that magazine cover yesterday at work, I was actually relieved.
What people fail to realize is that when they make a movie/tv show based on a graphic novel/comic book or w.e, 9 times outa 10 they're gonna change the look or have minor plot differences, look at Smallville for example.

Comics to the screen can never retain what it had on paper because it's not drawn, it's live action. I think in those cases it's best to just run with the premise of the hero and their story and make it your own. They did it with Iron Man and people are still fans of the first movie ( 2nd movie was good but 1st was better IMO ). Smallville had LOTS of things not in the comics but y'know what, it ran for many seasons and is still a good show.

I look forward to the Green Lantern movie because I like the Green Lantern series, and hope it does well, I'm not sure about their pick of Ryan Reynolds ( my natural enemy since Wolverine: Origins ) as Hal Jordan but if he does a decently good job at it I won't complain really.

*coughs* Smallville is still running. I dont have any problem with it. However its kinda sad that we wont be able to see it IRL.

Oi, that wasn't Ryan Reynolds fault. He'll be a fine Deadpool so long as someone with half a brain for comic books writes the script. (Not to mention gives him more than 5 minutes of screentime.) Besides, it could've been worse: way back when there was talk of making a spoof Green Lantern flick with Jack Black playing the lead.

The Green Lantern's costume was made "CG" because the filmmakers wanted it to look more otherwordly than, say, Superman's tights. It's not about an over reliance on CG but a conscious aesthetic decision that, quite honestly, makes sense.

Having read the script, I'm glad they didn't go with "Realism" and instead created a fantasy film so full of cheese that the power of love actually saves the day. If that gets taken out, I will be quite pissed off.

However, the publicity stills have me less than impressed. They all look pretty generic to me. Don't get me wrong, the suit looks fine. The sets don't, and Ryan Reynolds looks like he needs a frickin' Shower.

I'd get kinda pissed about that. He's not a freaking purple lantern for christ sake. But as far as the costume goes, I really don't care. The ring is the one that projects his willpower into whatever weapon he needs it for. Why not say if he wanted to he could make the ring change the suit? It's such a small detail that if "fans" get pissed over it just makes us all look bad.

The costume on the cover of Entertainment Weekly is kinda grossing me out. *barf*
I just don't like the look of traced muscle tissue. The depiction of exposed muscle makes my skin is crawl.

As for Thor's costume, it's too shiny and futuristic.
I was hoping they went with a more grittier, medieval (matte, I guess) look.

Whatever. Costumes shouldn't completely make or break a movie.

The costume is going to look tacky no matter what they do with it, in CG, spandex, whatever. *shrugs* I don't see what all the fuss in the media is about.

Eh, it kinda puts the "Fantasy" elements to the forefront. Something I was worried about with Director Martin Campbell. The Green Lantern is a Sci Fi fantasy cop film. But if you remove the fantasy, and he's just a space cop, he's the guy from "The Hidden" but with Super Powers. No, it's the Green Lantern and its a decent script. The one I got was an early draft, but from what I am seeing, it's as close to the First David Koepp Spider-Man draft to the final shooting script. Big changes, same movie.

Then again, I have the benefit of having read the script and understand the context, which is key. He can't just say "I love you" and Hector Hammond is defeated, if that's the type of thing your worried about. Let me just say, by the time it happens, the reaction of the most cynical people in the room will be "The movie has me by this point ANYWAY, so I'll give them that one."

Script Thieves are the best. I also got an Early draft of 'Thor', which isn't being used (but the writer is being credited, so I take it some scenes were lifted) as well as "Green Arrow: Escape From SuperMax".

As a Green Lantern fan, I'm still not sure how I feel about the costume. It's not like it would be a complete deal-breaker that would prevent me from actually seeing the film, but I'd feel a bit reassured once we finally get to see the costume in motion.

superheroes wear goofy costumes to begin with. i don't see how this looks sillier than anything else. if they're going to this length to create the suit, it's probably for good reason. i imagine they'll be a lot of lighting tricks and transformation sequences utilizing the cg tech used for the suit.

don't see the problem with it.
then again, i'm not this die-hard green lantern fan, either.

He inspired my Goatee. I am a fan too. The script needs work, and probably won't ever get made. It has my recommendation, but that comes with a rewrite or so.
