these are the christian extremists that give normal christians a bad name, i can safely say that i am a christian who believes in God and is saved, and i go to acen and cosplay. what these guys dont understand is that we do this for fun, not for idol worship, if they want something to complain about maybe it should be American IDOL

What a good idea. It will get them lots more attention than at their other places of protest, and the people there will likely be less restrained.

Since one goal of their's is to go some place and hopefully be attacked...that way they can turn around and sue the city/event for an untold amount of money for not protecting them.

Hopefully the convention and the attendees are smart about it.

edit: though depending on where they choose to stand they could be trespassing and then it wouldn't be that big of a deal at all.

They would also have a field day had they known about the number of anime clubs at the religious universities lol. The university I graduated from was associated with the the southern baptist church and we are so open with culture, the fact an anime club was established there was welcomed as another cultural expression that was shared by everyone.

Seriously, this what the Phelps clan wants. People are ignoring them on college campuses, so that's not working anymore. They're taking their lives in their own hands if they picket a soldier's funeral (the Patriot Riders do a great job in drowning the Phelpses out). So, to gain maximum media attention, he decides to pick Comic-Con, hoping, and daresay praying, that someone will make a fuss and get Phelps back into the media limelight again.

This guy is no more Christian than Hitler. And I'm not invoking Godwin's Law here: if Phelps had his way everyone who isn't like him would be killed, though Phelps doesn't have the 'nads to do it himself, even if he had the opportunity. Which makes him a lot like Hitler.

Let him come to ACen. I'd love to have a theological debate with one of his inbred morons.

I know...but it's fun to watch them have a panic attack when they realize they've just crossed swords with someone who knows what they're talking about.

They had one of Phelps' people on some radio show (NPR, maybe--hell, it might've been Sean Hannity for all I know), and she ended up going against a Catholic priest who teaches theology at Notre Dame. The guy absolutely had the Phelps chick in complete inarticulate hysteria by the end of the show. I was listening to it in a taxicab on the way to work, and I actually waited in the cab for five extra minutes to hear the utter dismantling of this woman's opinions.

I've got to wonder....Now that Senti mentions it......Is he really willing to have violence brought against his family just to get himself back into the spotlight of media for another week or two? I don't envy a man who would throw his family under a bus to get a light shone on him, nor the inbreds who follow this whack job and think he's actually right. Funny thing is I bet he's going to really be the one in serious trouble when he dies. Oh well....You reap what you sew.

The best way to counter these types (in person) is to ignore them. If you get approached just say "that's nice, how sweet." or something, while smiling, then walk away.

But "in reality" you can't ignore them. You need to be aware they exist, and you need rational educated knowledge on your side. People who have strong beliefs (whatever they may be) and feel they are being ridiculed can have a tendency to become violent. Human emotions are dangerous things.
