So at school today the annousment lady said that there was a threat for a drive by a gang at the school today!!! So a few weeks ago in Madison there was a drive by and a member of a gang got killed and my friend who is friends with people in the gang said that there is the posablity of a high drive by in my town! So there are cops all over town and all the schools are heavly guarded. But the scariest thing is that he said it might happen at the fair (that just got set up). So people are worried that there might be gang shooting at the fair. Damn.

This is why I live in Montana. A drive-by up here is when a bear walks up your driveway.

I don't even have to worry about drive bys in my neighborhood even tho we are kinda close to the city where all teh bad stuff goes down here.

From my experience, when a news outlet announces that there is going to be gang activity at a certain time/place, it never happens. Gang members are fairly smart and realize if they attack a place that's being listed as a target, they are going to get caught. They strike when you least expect it.

I went to a high school that had some serious gang problems. I remember an incident where a gang member pulled the building fire alarm to get all the students outside. Once the students were outside and all the staff/cops were occupied dealing with the fire alarm, the gang members attacked their target. Pretty scary stuff. Be careful.

Holy crap, I would have NEVER imagined them using tactics like that. That really amazes me.

Me too. It's a good wake up call to the serious reality of gang problems and how society it turning a blind eye to it. What might even amaze you more is I didn't even go to a high school in the city. This happened in the suburbs.

And as for the IQ of gang members, there was a gang shooting in Chicago not long ago at a scene where a shooting had just happend shortly before and there were cops all over the place. Didn't stop em...

Well not to stereotype, but that might be the reason why they were so smart. (makes me wonder what kind of gang there were.) But not here. Gangs are still big news here and how to disband them. you do not walk around the city here. (well some areas are safe but you walk into the wrong area, no joke you are in danger.) It got so bad, my friend is no longer startled by gunfire after living in the city for so long.

Where the fairgrounds is and set up it is easy to get away if you plan it. So maybe they won't do a drive-by but they could walk in and escape easyly cause there is forest around the whole grounds. But then again the police station is right next to the grounds. If the gang members are smart they could get away. I'm going to just wait it out and see what happens. Hopefully there stupid and get caught before anything serious happens.

Also I funny thing I just realized about this was we have had two bear sightings in my area too. So we also got bears! lol

Criminals will have guns no matter what. Things like stupid "Gun Free Zones" just means they're more likely to carry out attacks there since there may only be a police officer or two who is strapped.

This of course does not apply to high schools, as the last thing teenagers need is a piece.

I'm all for keeping any gun ownership debate out of this thread.

Although I will say this: It isn't the weapons that are the problem, it's the people involved. And although not gang related, we had a really bad incident not long ago also in Chicago involving a guy armed with a baseball bat. (PS I live in a far northern 'burb, not close to or in the city).

Yeah I'll agree with obakasan. It is the people that is the problem. As cliche as it is, people kill people, not guns.

But fixing that problem, is what the real problem is. How can we do it, since parents just won't do it.

The fine city of Chicago has a goodly number of school shootings of all sorts. And church shootings. You name it. And they generally hit some innocent bystander. Hardly a week goes by you don't hear about some young kid, toddler, baby etc gets hit while inside their house or car by a "stray bullet." And at all hours of the day or night. Doesn't matter.

Poverty is the underlying cause. But we're a bit too busy with our feel good wars (drugs, for example) and such to care about taking on such a major issue, albeit it isn't exactly an easy one.
