You know what would be really awesome? If the US wanted to play defense at any point during this match...Of course in the second half its going to be hard because they're going to have to go completely on the offensive to try to dig their way out of a 2 goal deficit. Really sloppy first half play by the US...

Then a BS yellow card to add insult to injury...

Whooooo! US came back to tie the game and stay alive! But you're right Felf, these refs have been absolutely pathetic. In the (British) announcer's words, "The ref has made some bizarre decisions... this has been a nightmare." The Americans scored the apparent third, winning goal, but it was called off due to a phantom offsides. They twice missed calls that would've given the US penalty kicks as well. This is the World Cup, not the neighborhood youth soccer league, you'd think the officials would have a damn clue how to call a game.

Would you say they were as bad as the refs during the Stanley Cup?

Worse. Because of that BS yellow card Felf mentioned, Findley now is suspended for the next game. The US well could've won 4-2 or 5-2 - which does matter as goal differential is a tiebreaker, aside from the obvious matter that now the US has only 2 points instead of 4. At 4 points we'd be leading the group going into England v. Algeria, but down at 2 we need some help to move on. There are really two ideal scenarios: 1) a draw. We'd then be tied with England for 2nd (top 2 advance) going into the third match. 2) an Algerian win. If Algeria wins, they'll be in 2nd with 3 points compared to our two, but we play them in the 3rd match, so a win would give us second place at 5 points (England couldn't catch us because they'd have a max of 4 points). An English win isn't crippling because if they beat Slovenia, America still moves on with a win, but regardless, our fate is no longer in our hands.

Thank you VERY much, Desert Foxes. Because of the 0-0 draw, America now moves on with a win, and if it comes down to a tiebreak with England we currently have a 2 goal advantage in goals scored. You played well, Algeria, now roll over next match. XD

The US game made me rage.

Talk about a classic sports scandal. That whole game was BS in all sorts of ways, from the refs to us seeming not to want to play the first half... <_<

To be fair, a 2-2 tie does not exactly put us in a bad place. Even if England had lost.

Interesting note, people from around the world (at least online) have been following the American team and have been liking how they've seen it develop.

I enjoyed today's games, Gahna vs Australia was very good dispite the draw. Ghana I thought played very well and the Aussies have one great goal keeper.

No, it certainly would not be the worst thing in the world had Algeria beat England (a win would still put the US through in that scenario), but with all of the upsets that have been going on this World Cup, you can't take things for granted. Those two points could possibly be the difference between advancing and going home. With the draw there are more ways for the US to advance, but I'd still rather be sitting at 4 points instead of 2.

Judgement day has come. I can't see the game, but it seems like Algeria's gotten a few decent chances already, and I don't like that. But at least we've gone 15 minutes and we still haven't allowed a goal.

Ugh, friggin' refs are ridiculous. After this group match play there has to be replay implemented. This is ridiculous. Twice in two games US has had a goal wiped off the board due to bad calls, and it could potentially be the difference between moving on and going home.

Screw that. Get it right, period. I say that for all sports. I never understood that thinking, you have the technology to get it right, effing use it.

But thank friggin' gawd for Landon Donovan! FIFA has to be breathing a huge sigh of relief. If the US would've been sent home, it would've been a travesty. Twice in two games good goals have been wiped out, it's embarrassing for that to happen on the world's biggest stage, and if it would've sent a team home? They really got lucky.

Thankfully next round the likely hood of facing Germany to start is low it will more then likely be Serbia with a smaller chance of Ghana. In an hour I'm pulling for Ghana and Australia, if both win the US faces the Aussies in the first round.
