I figure not many of you particularly care about the World Cup since America is terrible and doesn't care anyway, but I'm itching for it to start! I was in France and Germany during a lot of the World Cup in 2006, and I swear the excitement was contagious. I came home and was still glued to the TV for the rest of the tournament. It's time for the World Cup again, and I can already feel the adrenaline rush, which is odd since I normally couldn't possibly care less about sports.

I'm cheering for Germany myself. They won Eurovision; maybe they can take the World Cup, too! Anyone else around here getting excited?

Ukraine has breasts.
She has them in spades.
If South Korea and Ukraine were to hook up...
Then South Korea would never have a shortage of breasts ever again.

EN-GER-LUND EN-GER-LUND EN-GER-LUND!!!

I intend to spend my Saturday watching my home country destroy the country I have naturalized myself in, while wearing my awesome England cap. Sadly I have to work for more than an hour of the game.

Also when you say Eurovision, do you mean the hilariously bad annual song contest which Germany did win this year, or are you referring to the "UEFA Cup" European soccer tornament which Spain won last time?

Sounds entertaining.

Hilariously bad song contest. I actually like Satellite, though. Considering how hilarious some Eurovision entries are (see Lithuania and the sparkly shorts), I do think Lena is actually decent enough to be considered somewhat respectable at least in that sphere of music. Some of the stuff is actually legitimately good, though. I don't apologize for being addicted to Candlelight (Hungary's 2008 entry).

Was only making sure, as Germany winning Eurovision has no bearing on their performance in this cup. But Germany are certainly one of the best teams in the world, so worth keeping an eye on. I'd also watch out for Argentina and Brazil. Italy and France can be forces to reckon with, aswell.

Next time the Eurovision is on, we should do a forum sync. Just all sit around watch it and commentate on it as we watch.

Infact--- I've not done a forum sync in a long time. Wonder if I can arrange one.

It's always smart to start off a post by trolling.

That said, go Germany

I'm all for World Cup soccer. I mean, I don't watch soccer normally, but this is a special event, like the Olympics when people watch stuff they'd never watch otherwise, like running or swimming or curling. (Curling is awesome btw.)

@Stkbayfield Oh, of course it doesn't. Maybe I failed at wording things forever, but what I meant was that it would be neat for Germany to win two international events in the same year.

@Alkaren Hyralt Not particularly sure how that's trolling, but okay then. I've watched a few of America's matches here and there over the years and have heard about the others from friends and they're really not on par with most of the other teams in the Cup from what I've seen, at least not most years. And the majority of fellow Americans that I come across really don't care about the World Cup, or even soccer in general. I'm not big on sports in most cases, so I don't really have a feel for what most people here do and don't care about, and the most common reaction to "So are you going to watch the World Cup?" that I usually get is "no, why would I? Soccer is boring" or something like that. And last I checked, trolling was saying something that you don't necessarily believe 100% solely for the purpose of getting a rise out of people. Not my intent here, so uh.

Sorry. I've just been seeing a lot of people calling each other trolls back and forth on various sites and am a bit sick of it.

Maybe if America does a decent Job, people will start respecting the sport, and stop referring and girl's sport.... Biggest peeve as a kid, really.

Regardless, America lasting more than one round will more than make up for the Chicago Fire being next to useless this year.

Thank goodness for ESPN360 this time around... for having easy net-broadcasting of the games... to watch in places where there isn't TV. >:D

I'm rooting for Korea DPR this year. Before anyone groans, I'm cheering because they are in such an under dog position... Group G in general is like @_@ . So , if DPR beats Brazil in their first match I will most definitely be following them. Otherwise, I'm going to be in Germany for a majority of the cup so I may as well join the crowd. :x

I loved Fairytale by Alexander Rybak, the winner of Eurovision 2009 and Moltiva sung by Marija Serifovic, winner of Eurovision 2007. Is it True (Iceland 2009) is another good one too.

I'm gonna listen to Fairytale now. lol

Given their group (and the fact that they earned a split against England), they by all accounts should move on. It would help if Algeria and Slovenia end with a 0-0 tie tomorrow though.

Yeah, but I was not expecting that. America, in the qualifiers, was a very high scoring team but had jack crap for defense. I missed the first half of Yesterdays game, but it seems the stepped up their game.

They were much better in the second half, but they still had too many defensive lapses for my liking (including one that lead to England's goal). To come out with a tie despite that is very lucky; they need to stop playing with fire. Definitely need to start fast in the next two games or there just may be an upset.

Oh I'm already fully aware of that friggin' stupid noise. It'd be one thing if they only did it during big moments of the game, but they do it for the entire friggin' 90 minutes, non-stop. I've read stories that say those horns cause the volume to go up over 140 decibels. To put that in perspective, the threshold of pain is generally listed between 120-140 dB. A jet engine at 100 ft is also at around 140, and not to mention that this is the maximum recommended level WITH ear protection.

You know another African tradition I'd actually legitimately love to hear at the World Cup? Singing.

Good games today we got to see some offense today, as well as a really dumb move.
Argentina vs South Korea: Argentina got some good breaks their way but still played an exelent game. They got the free goal from Park Chu-Young early on and looked good the rest of the game.
Greece vs Nigeria: not a great game with the only real highlight being Sani Kaita dreadful red card at the 33nd minute.
France vs Mexico: great play by Mexico very strong play by the subs. France looked horribly disorganized and will more then likely will not move on from Group A.

18th games:
Germany vs Serbia: Serbia is better then Australia and it will be closer but Germany 3-1
Slovenia vs United States: Slovenia a very defensive team they have a win the US needs not loose. The US needs some players to step up if they get a win a draw against Algeria should move them on. US 1-0
England vs Algeria: This is a must win for both teams. Algeria needs the 3 points to stay in the hunt. England will want to get the three now so they can go against Slovenia not needing a win. England 2-0
