i'm really looking for a reason to not rewatch gundam seed/destiny having spent so many hours playing dynasty warriors gundam 3. Plus all the new animes this season take too long to come out between episodes, and really nothing is going to top my ordinary life. I could use an anime to watch in the mean time

So I remembered I had Nana DVDs so I watched those finally. I suppose for a smoker it may be a bit, but I hardly noticed it.

Japan is a nation of heavy smokers I understand, so the habit is probably seen as more a normal thing...

My biggest gripe about the anime is that there is so much redundancy and retelling and flashbacks that there isn't much of a story in those first "11.5" episodes.

May see about checking out the live action version(s). And I have manga Vol 1 of it around the house somewhere...

I know how you feel. i have a list I wanted to see this summer....I'm not even half done. Life comes at you fast. I need to make time for anime more lol.

I just started Wolf's Rain. I feel it's sad I haven't seen it yet.

What's cool about Nana is even though when they first introduced characters like Reira and Takumi, I didn't think I'd like them. Then as the series progressed I grew to love every single character, even though they all had some pretty major flaws. I mean even though

Reira was 22 and sleeping with a 15 year old, it really didn't seem wrong

. I thought that was a really eloquent way of showing that circumstance changes everything.

God I love that series.

As I haven't put my posters up in quite a while all i have is old pictures of my posters, which this is cropped from.

Nana was probably one of the last shows I ever sat there and theorized about possibilities of the next episode and analyzed each episode. God I really want to rewatch the show.

After the last 707 party, one of our friend's girlfriends got interested in Nana and started watching it (as I guess it's on netflix?) And last I know after 10 or so episodes she was like "oh this is so much like my life!' To which we're all like 'oh god we hope not' haha

The slow motion boot to the head is still one of my favorite scenes in the series, humor wise.

Yeah the entire series (subbed! 8D) is on Netflix and available for watching over and over and OVER.

When I first started watching it I was like "Nana Komatsu is such a twit" and maybe she is really a twit but I can relate to her the most out of anyone in the series. She's so human, and there were parts where she felt eerily similar to me and how I tend to look at life.

What I'm trying to say is maybe your friend just meant that she really related to the way a certain character can be and not that she was

And I had to actually go look up which nana that was since I wasn't sure - I'm so used to referring to her as Hachi haha. But yeah, I could see how she is one of the most relatable characters in the series - at least in the beginning. Outside of her blaming the demon lord for everything. But as the story goes on

Hachi is really selfish but, as Nana says, she's just trying to find a way to make herself complete and doing it in the only way she knows how. And I think that's something everyone struggles with. When it comes down to it, you have to choose (at least relationship-wise) what's best for you no matter who it may hurt. Hachi had a tough decision to make (granted she got herself stuck there in the first place by being a liiiiittle quick to jump in bed with multiple partners) but in the end she couldn't make everyone happy, so she chose what was best for her, but also what was best for Nobu and her child. She says herself that if she were to stay with Nobu that he'd have to give up his dream and go back to the inn to support her and she couldn't bear the thought of it. That doesn't seem very selfish to me. :]

I think one of the best parts in the whole series is when Hachi and Nobu finally admit their feelings for one another and Hachi worries that she'll disappoint him and that he over-idealizes her, but also acknowledges that the moment he put his arms around her she felt she had everything she wanted. That's such a realistic way to feel about someone. A lot series kind of skim over those insecurities that almost everyone has when getting into a new relationship, no matter how happy you may be.

But seriously, Hachi. WHY NOT NOBU? WHY. WHY. But the manga isn't over yet. We may get our NobuxHachi. Though I doubt it. :c
