Even in terrible movies, he was amazing. Super Mario Brothers, anyone?
I completely agree. I was more shocked about this! He was suuuch a great villain..er..cop. lol
I think the first movie I ever saw him in was Speed. I'm so suprised at how many people have never seen that movie!! I always make jokes in an elevator referencing the beginning of that movie and I get blank stares even after I tell them where its from. >.<
He was a good man and was Bowser. <3

I watched Super Mario Bros. in memorium, last weekend. Couldn't help but smile whenever he was onscreen, whenever he spoke, etc. Watching any of his movies will never be the same, ever again.

It's a classic like "Rebel Without a Cause".... One that you will never be able to convince me is a classic.
Both films had great performances, even if the dialog isn't what it should be.

Easy Rider sucked--but Steppenwolf made the first part at least watchable.

Or Joe.... Joe is director by John Avildsen, who directed Rocky and The Karate Kid as a response to movies like "Easy Rider" and other counter culture films. It's a really dark, sometimes humorless film about the sixties. A well off Business man confronts his daughter's hippie boyfriend, after he finds her strung out on drugs. They argue, and in a moment of lapsed judgment, he kills the hippie. Struggling with what just happened, he goes into the nearest bar, where a blue collared Worker named "Joe" is telling it how it is- About how the hippies, the blacks, the jews, are destroying our society. With a few beers, the father admits what he did to Joe, who at first passes it off as a joke. After a while, though, the two form a bond, and he starts believing more and more of what Joe is saying.
It's completely unrelenting, as I mentioned, and does not let you know exactly where it stands until the shocking conclusion. The Hippies are portrayed as being almost as bad as Joe himself, but also the reason people like him are sometimes created. It's absolutely fantastic.
Easy Rider got more award nominations and a bigger fan base. Granted, while Joe does have a great performance by Peter Boyle there is no classic Dennis Hopper part, or Peter Fonda, or even Jack Nicholson. Still, it's a much better film despite being mostly forgotten.
I had a double feature of "My Science ProjecT" and "Super Mario Brothers" last night.
