Does anyone know if you have to be 21 to be able to check into the Hyatt?

This year we stayed at the Doubletree and I was able to check in just fine (I'm 19).

Before I go and reserve the room for next year and not learn this until it's too late, I'm asking now if they want you to be 21, or being over 18 is ok.

I know at some cons I've been 2, one hotel will be 21 to check in while the one across the street is 18. It's always random @_@

I'm assuming that Doubletree has changed their policy then. When I came to Acen in 2008, you had to be 21 to check in.

And yes, at Hyatt you do have to be 21 to check in.

You can still book the room if you're under 21 at the Hyatt, however you can't check yourself in. Someone else in the room with you has to be 21. If you don't have someone 21+ in your group, you can have your parents fax over a copy of their license and a note claiming responsibility for you. I did this a few years ago when I was 18 and it worked just fine.

So if I brought a copy of my mom's license and a note it would be ok?

I'll call the hotel sometime and ask too, though everyone else in my group is over 21 =_=

It makes me wonder if they'd accept it though, seeing as my mom would be on the other side of the country >_>

I had some minor issues with the customer service desk not knowing all the answers that the check-in people do. I don't blame the hotel for any of that and hate myself for causing problems, but I did learn an important lesson.

When you do call Hyatt, be sure to note if the person is certain about something or not. Rosemont's Hyatt is first and foremost a business hotel for people stopping in pre/post flight and for the convention center, so it's forgiveable that the staff would not be versed in extra circumstancial things like our requests.

So my point is, when you call, if the person says "I think so" or "it should be okay" RIGHT AWAY ask to be forwarded to someone for certain answers. Vocal testimony months and months before an event will not be accepted when you're there in person, and you want to be SURE and not confident that things are okay.

I checked myself in when I was 19. I don't see the problem.

But how could you do that if your parents will not be in the room with you? I mean I do not think this makes sense with having to have someone over 21...I'm eighteen and can BOOK the room, but I cannot check in the room I BOOKED? I do not understand that philosophy at all... What do you mean a note claiming responsibility? Something like "Billy Joe Bob is my son, he is checking in the room" or something? I'm just concerned because my friend and I will be getting a room and she's 18 and I'll be 19 during the con, so I have no clue how that would work.

Thanks for posting this thread--I was about to, great minds think alike! :D

I just talked to a reserve lady today and she said because I'm 19, and their policy is that booking a room is 18, that checking in would not to make any problem. She said there is NOTHING in their policy that said you had to be 21. For being 21, did it happen to you?

I miiiiight just drag my mom along, just in case. lol just to check in, ahhahaaha.

I had a problem with this last year, I used the website to book my room, I was 19 at the time, So I thought everything would be just fine, when I got to the hotel my group and I were staying at they wouldnt let us into our room untill someone 21 or older came and checked us in, even though yes I booked and Paied for the room, someone else needed to be responsible for me and the people in the room, so we had to wait for my friends mom to get off work and come up to check us in, she did so then turned around and left, they didnt have a problem with it.

I'd have to ask the girl who was in charge of rooms last year what she did, but she was 19 or 20 last ACen and as far as I know she was able to check in just fine. I don't know if she took any extra steps though to be able to check in. =/

I've actually been wondering about this myself since I'm in charge of hotel rooms this year and I'm going to be 20 by the time the convention rolls around.

I have to pop in here. i was 20 last acen and was worried about this as well. I was paying, checking in and staying in the room and I would have been FUROUS if I could pay for it without being able to stay there. So I asked like every 3 months and got the same answer: they prefer 21 because of the minibar in the room. SUPPOSEDLY ( i wouldn't know because I didn't even open the fridge) they lock it if the people in the room are under 21.

But I was still worried. YET when I checked in, even after seeing my Drivers license with big ol bold letters that said I was UNDER 21 until my birthday in 2011, they let me check in no problem. I would just call and call and call the LOCAL hyatt (not the reservation site) take the names of the people you talk to and bring that info to check in.

And like Stkbayfield says: make sure they sound sure.

Gosh... How many more "Hotel Topics" will you guys open?! Stop it already! STOP! Arghh!!! Many of these topics are basically the about the same thing and should just be basically under "Hotel Questions" or something like that. The reason why I'm saying this is because on go on this site searching for answers and comments as well about important things and I think that once I go in a specific topic I think I finished searching my answers but then I go into another topic and I find more relative info. under the same topic I just looked under. This is not making things easier for me to search and I just basically wasted time for going into all the "Hotel Topics" even though the title wasn't familiar to my search, finding more familiar questions in all the "Hotel Topics" that should have just been in one specific topic (only if someone edited this site-HINT).

uhhh...seeing that you are new here...I'll be nice.
This thread is the corrcet thread for all hotel related comments and questions.
YES. Users make hotel topic threads all over the place and YES it is annoying but the people in control of the forums try their hardest to move things to the right section. In fact I've constantly seen threads started in the wrong area and moved by the next day.

Don't tell people to fix somthing that isn't broken.

As for searching: the search function looks for keywords and will look at ALL available public threads on this site. If the word 'hotel' is even mentioned in a sentence that will pop up as a result. If you have questions or want answers regarding the hotels, this is the thread to look into.

have a nice day ...

Okay, I have a problem, and considering what this thread was about, I figured I should just post here instead of making a new thread ^^

NO ONE in my group is over 21. What do we do!? T_T When I called the Embassy and the Hyatt, they both said I'd need to get someone over 21 and change the reservation name before check-in, but in order to get someone over 21, I'm thinking that we would need another car AND another room, and our group is pressed for money as it is T_T

What should we do? I already asked the Embassy about having a parent fax a copy of their license and a note, but she said that wouldn't work. I haven't called the Hyatt again to ask them, so maybe that would work there? And does anyone know the check-in age at the DoubleTree? We're keeping our options open, but we're having issues ~_~'

Help please!

Well what what you could do is if you can have a parent come with you to check in. Because if you are 18 you can buy a room (cuz you can have a credit card) but I would suggest bring a parent and help you check in that way, and they could also give you a ride that way too maybe? I'm not sure if you can do that but it is an option. ^^

Ya, the only issue with that plan is the amount of space we'll have ~_~' I'm thinking that I'm going to have to tell my mates to bear with it! We're all devoted con-goers, so we can all squeeze ourselves into a car! YA! Of course, the room's another story...But if we must, we must! It'll all work out >: |

This is a common issue. You NEED to have someone present that is 21 when you check in, check out and be on the property all times. It is the hotel's decision on what to do if they investigate a room and finds out that does they not have a person with the min age requirement present on the hotel property.
