Just like the topic says, the ASOS Brigade posted a video today (starring beloved anime fan and voice actress Christina Vee) stating that Bandai had picked up the rights to the internet mini-series Haruhi-Chan and it's counterpart Nyoro~n Churuya-San, and will be dubbing them both into English and releasing on two DVDs this summer. Possibly to build interest before the Season 2 boxset is released and the movie after it.

I absoloutely loved the omake series, and knowing I'll have it in both English and Japanese at the touch of a button is a beautiful thing. This means next time I want to hear Mikuru cry I can just chapter skip, rather than YouTube troll.

I'd recomend buying for any Haruhi fan or any person who wants to see some absolutely insane animated 4Koma styled antics.

Also the US cinema release of Disappearance is subbed.

Though it's only in about three towns and the eastern most one is San Francisco. Western most is Hawaii.

From what I understand, they have a special deal with a specific cinema out in California and have a one month engagement with them. Judging from the ASOS brigades posts, they're trying to secure more for a US-wide release, but for now they just have the premier location in SF and for some reason Hawaii gets it in late June.

If it comes to Chicago, I will make sure it is known on this board and may very well organize a cosplay gathering to see it.

Oh, just checked the ASOS twitter since making this post.

The premier of the movie was tonight in SF. Sounds like the event was a big success.

i doubt it will make it to a chicago movie theater any time soon, but just the fact
that it was brought here to the states at all makes me happy because the release of the movie
on DVD can't be that far away.
but i would love to see this movie in theaters.
if just the camrip brought me to tears, just imagine seeing it on the big screen~

Man, I cried no less than three times at the camrip. The novel actually happens to be one of my top three works of fiction of all time and to see it so beautifully animated was soul moving enough, but the little additions--- my gosh!

By the way, I appreciated your Disappearance Haruhi cosplay during the convention. It was a shame you weren't at the photoshoot. Have you read all of the novels to date? I always buy the English versions, so feel no guilt about cutting corners--- the preview chapter of book 10 has me absolutely salivating :)

Thankfully, both The Boredom of Haruhi Suzumiya and The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya are scheduled for release in English this year, so I don't have long to wait very long to read them (if that fourth novel is as good as you say, carmelita). I just finished reading the second novel, and I'm a bit bummed that it was condensed into one episode in the anime. The novel's story was very good, although I wish that Mikuru had more to say in it (that is, regarding her time traveler identity, and her opinion of Haruhi's nature). But I especially like how the novels seriously regard Haruhi's ability to change reality; it's very engaging. As for the newer anime (movie, Season 2, etc.), I'll probably rent it at some point.

The fact you have to ask if the fourth novel is as good as claimed means you are in for a treat. Not to overplay it or anything, but the fourth novel is the magnum opus of the series which ties deeply into the mythology, greatly expands the characters of Kyon and Yuki and gives the most heart-wrenching experience of the entire saga.

It's almost a shame when the whimsical one-off stories start up again.

Also, the entire second novel was adapted into a five part episode in the "second season" that aired last year. Bandai are releasing the boxset very soon.

I am first and foremost a fan of the books, though, so to see your enthusiasm solely gauged upon the novels makes me smile. You have a good set of books ahead of you.
