Unfortunately, this is exceptionally poor scheduling because most folks on the semester system are graduating that weekend. Are you guys aware of this?

About 75-80% of the schools in the Chicagoland area are on the semester system, so that's a large chunk of people that I can guarantee are not going to be able to attend because they're walking (or members of their family are walking) for their graduation ceremony that weekend. Plus, you advertised a lot in the city of Chicago this past year...if you keep to the May 20 - 22 dates you may as well not advertise because a lot of people and their families won't be able to go to the con.

For a family-friendly con, I'd love to see these dates changed so that families with graduating students can actually attend.

these dates were set a couple years ago so we wont be changing them. Each year we fall on a graduation heavy weekend, this past year was no different. Unfortunately we wont be changing the dates because theres no way to. We have to book these things two-three years in advance because the Hyatt and the convention center are very popular venues.

For me it won't matter that I still have school then or not I will still go because Chicago Public Schools won't end until the middle June so my little brother is done by them and my school ends about a month before he ends so I will have no problems, except for any dates that fall before May. During my first year I was a senior in high school and I skipped Friday since I was over 18 the school considers you an adult by then, the next year I was in the middle of finals and I had 2 more test the following week so I was fine, finally this year I finished school a week before Acen was to start. For me Acen is my vacation away from home and I will keep going until I'm done with Acen or run out of cash, which ever comes first.

Too bad you guys can't change the dates for 2012.

Do you guys recommend staying at the Hyatt, or the Embassy Suites? The Hyatt is the center of the action, but I heard the Embassy Suites have larger rooms, free breakfast, and parking. I don't know what to decide on~.

I've not been at the Embassy before but am considering staying there next year. Unless you REALLY want to be in the middle of the action (all. the. time. Even when you're trying to sleep), I'd stay at one of the nearby hotels like Double Tree or Embassy.

I've given it some thought, and have decided to stay at the Hyatt. I am bringing two new con-goers, so being right in the middle of the action sounds good.
Plus, we can ride in the elevators really late at night and say we're elevator people. x) (Like we did at Comic-con, with Sora~)

So I get to go to ACen 2011 now! But at a price...I wasn't supposed to be able to go because my sister was supposed to be getting married that weekend. Well, the wedding got canceled. That means I get to go, but sad face, now my sister's not getting married. It's the weirdest combo of happy/sad I've ever felt. :/

Hahahahaha...no. My sister drives me nuts after spending 5 minutes with her. I can't imagine an entire weekend. Plus she doesn't even know what anime is. I've been posting on my facebook about ACen and she was like "Are you speaking another language? I have no clue what you're saying!" *facepalm*

which MEANS that I'm looking into/contemplating staying THURS-SUN which is a big step for me because this year was the first time that I even put a room in my name so to have that extra amount on my shoulders scares me a little but all of my friends are saying "do eeeeeeet!"

Just a piece of advice CrimsonAnime: Make sure to get the money from your friends in advance of booking the rooms. I remember my first time having a room in my name. I had 6 friends, plus my sig o (this was a different con.) Only 4 people actually paid ahead of time, and they said they only had enough for the 8 person split, so we had to take in some strangers from another state. We got lucky, but unless you want to risk paying a lot or rooming with strangers, get the money beforehand!
