I gave it a 9. I had to deal with IRT a lot when escorting people. They were very helpful and polite.

I had one minor incident in the Hyatt with one, but I've decided not to make a big deal out of it. This is also from a staff perspective as well.

could you pm with the details? even if you would prefer to leave out a name. even just the details of what our people are doing wrong helps us train them better for next year.

Honestly I only had one tiny hiccup with IRT, though some of the stories I heard they will probably get a lower mark from some.

In all honesty, I think this is the first year since my first back in the Arlington Heights days where I do not think I have had a single direct interaction with an IRT member. (maybe with the exception of a badge check or two)

First time in two years that I missed getting scolded for not walking on the curb in the Hyatt smoking zone.

For myself, it was a good year but that is an incredibly small sample size.

This was my first con - and I mean first. I've never attended a con before, I've never worked a con before, so I really don't have anything to compare this year's IRT to except stories I've heard from Rabbi and Riker. Given that I'd been led to expect everything to explode sometime Saturday evening, we kicked some serious butt. I heard about several internal incidents - we weren't perfect - but operationally, things appeared to be hunky-dory.

I didn't have extensive interactions with any IRT folks this year, but I greeted many in passing as patrols passed the video rooms where I was working. They were all pleasant with me and professional in every interaction I witnessed with congoers. The one time I had to bring a situation to a patroller's attention (the Rickroll parade being really loud and blocking traffic), it was dealt with promptly. I'd love to give kudos by callsign. Unfortunately, they slid right out of my sleep-deprived brain. All I can say is, if you patrolled the video rooms on the overnights, I appreciated your presence and your attitude!

I say 10. I had little to no interaction with them but I did't see (or hear of) any incidents at the con, so they must have done a great job.

I gave a 10. All the IRT members that I saw over the weekend, although they were guest escorts, were all wonderful and very helpful, and generally easy-going people.

I'd say 9. There were some issues, but I'm not sure those were really under their control (namely the lines outside the Hyatt and trying to walk by without any sidewalk space to do so). Otherwise all the IRT I interacted with were pretty awesome and maintained a professional attitude throughout.

I had absolutely no problems about them this year. But there was one personal issue I had.
I was trying to find a specific operative (my sister) and asked if they could tell me where I could find her. I don't know the rules about that, but it was an emergency. I was greeted and was told to sit and wait while they went to go find her location and I ended up sitting there for an hour while no one was doing anything to finding her location. I don't know if it was just too busy, or not a good time (since it was like 2 in the morning) but I was really upset with being told that they would find her for me and didn't do anything to help. And if they couldn't find her for any reason, why not just tell me so I could have went back to my room.

Other than this, IRT did a pretty good job this year. They were really friendly and helped me out with any other questions or problems I had, even the new operatives.

(Just a suggestion, I think IRT should split the night/zombie shift. 12 hours of work would make anyone grumpy)

I think that IRT did an absolutely amazing job. I spent the entire weekend traveling around both buildings, and every op I saw was nothing but courteous, friendly and helpful toward the con goers. Sure, things got a bit frazzled for them around Main Programming when events had attendees lined up around the building, but considering that they were able to keep such an immense crowd so orderly, and only with untrained/minimally trained gofers for backup, says quite a lot about their capability and total professionalism.

I especially want to give a huge shout out to Red XIII. She was on my list of sign language translators, which I had a sudden need for. I called dispatch and was told the she was off duty. Before I could even call for the next person on the list, she came walking into my office, in full costume and obviously missing out on something she did a LOT of preparation for, just so she could help just one more person. Thank you so much, Red. I'd be proud to have you on my staff.

Haha - she walked into Dispatch literally five seconds after we'd finished talking to you, and we told her that special needs had been asking for her, so she turned around and ran. Awesome human being

Just want to give a quick shout out to the IRT people (or other staff...think it was IRT but not sure) doing line control during the fashion show/pre Aural Vampire concert. I was one of the designers not modeling so I was walking back and forth between the green room(?)/prep room and the audience to see the show, and they were very understanding and helpful letting me go back and forth. The staff watching the prep room was also very nice (brains ftw!). And when I left the audience to go backstage for the Q&A apparently a little too late, they were incredibly helpful in finding someone to escort me and show me the way backstage with very little hassle and questions asked - thanks guys, you rock!! You allowed me to recover from my mishap very smoothly, and allowed me to fulfill my selfish need to watch my models onstage from an audience POV.
You were also really cool and understanding about us taking a little corner after the show for some post-show photos of the models, keeping us from getting in the way while not being rude and bossy - thanks again. Mad props, guys. It was well-handled.

I've had some negative experiences with IRT over the years, just minor ones but enough to leave a bad taste in my mouth, but this year was excellent. Great job, everyone.

Hobbes, I have to give you a specific call-out on this. You are a huge part of the reason things DIDN'T explode in dispatch sometime Saturday evening. You always went above and beyond. We are totally keeping you for next year... tigers are good luck! :-D

I was a little peved that out of all the staff they could not tell me at times where to find stuff even with the walkies and sometimes they were just sitting there, though the one simi bald guy that was one of the supervisors for the convention hall was able to help me find a panel even though it took five minuts on friday afternoon by the nearside entrance not the one that was by the cafe.

I did like that conversation though with the three jewish guys one or two were irt about 3 in the morning friday overnight, I cant remember who it was, but you might know me as the guy with the black shirt and black wristbands in blue jeans, as we sat by the viewing rooms.

I gave 10 cause i think IRT was really good this year and the thing that happen to me at the rave was takin care of in the right way and this was my 1st year working the con and i loved it and i'll be doing it again next year

I'll have to give IRT a 9 this year. I have to admit...I had a hard time not laughing when I was working backstage during the Masquerade. While Yoshiki was on stage, I was on door duty and Bunni (I think) was standing nearby. One of the girls waiting for the skits to start whispered to me that "the IRT guy is scary because he's wearing sunglasses in the dark".

Bunni, you get an A for awesome.

Nine, because my teachers have drilled in to e that no one ever deserves a ten since there's always room for improvement, or something like that. However, the experiences I had (not too many, but still) with IRT this year were wonderful, as always. There were a couple of times I was lost or some other such thing and they helped, and while I don't have any specific incidents I brought six other teenage girls with me--with three more commuting daily and hanging out with us--and I'm sure they got in someone's way over the weekend or did something bad I don't know about or were just generally annoying. So thanks, IRT and other con staff, for putting up with us all and doing your best to help whenever possible.

My contact was a bit limited this year but everyone on IRT I encountered was Excellent. I too am reluctant to give 10's but as this isn't exactly Dancing With The Stars I'm gonna do so.
