Just got out of bed a bit ago and the post-con blues are hitting HARD. The weekend went by way too fast for me due to a few cases of FAIL. Any else bummed out by the real world?

I was actually kind of sad that I was reporting to my real world desk rather than my help desk terminal at the con. Oh well, next year will roll around faster than you think.

Just gotta head to other cons in between!

One day, I would like to have a week-long con.

That will be nothing but a dream, though, because I can imagine that such a thing would kill wallets and people would have a hard time getting days off of work.

Luckily the staff have a few meetings coming up, along with individual meetings per department, but yeah, this kinda sucks, the weekend went by way too fast for me. : (

All me and my friend were saying is "I can't wait til next year!!!" We did more stuff than last year.

Too bad that we both had to work on Friday and couldn't come back for Sunday.

Now I just have to get the weekend off again for next year or win the lottery.

VERY depressed. I mean, hanging out with 17k awesome people in an amazing setting just goes by too fast for one weekend.

Gah, I nearly cried on the drive home. ACen's the only con I can afford (even if barely) to go to and it's practically home for me. At my real home, I have to fight to have one wall scroll on my wall. All my dvd's were long stolen with my CDs and I have to keep my manga at a friend's house, along with my two figurines. But at the con, I could walk around with cat ears, or even in full on cosplay if I ever did one, and people would actually treat me like a human being.

Kind of off-topic, but these two comments kind of struck me. Are you guys implying that your parents (?) won't allow you to display your anime collectibles at home?

That's what I got from their posts as well, and if that's true I feel really sorry for them. It isn't fair for them to be able to buy these items and not even display them proudly.

Agreed, I do feel bad if that's the case, because that was the first thing I did when I got home, was rearranging my already limited wallspace for my new wallscrolls, displaying my new action figures and alphabetizing my new mangas. It helps ease the pain of not being at ACen anymore.

I miss ACEN already, and this was my first year. I feel bad for you guys who can't display the goodies of ACEN, but you've got the memories and the goodies hidden away elsewhere (I hope). I'm already planning for next year, but I wish the con was longer. I felt normal there, unlike in the city. If you wear cat ears in Chicago, you get watched like a germ under a microscope.

Yeah, I'm feeling the post-con blues pretty bad here, too. This was hands down the best Acen I've ever had and I miss it so much. The only thing keeping me from crawling into an emo hole is that I'm really sore all over from my poor sleeping habits, drastically increased amount of physical activity, poor eating habits, and inferior sleeping conditions that I had during Acen, so recovery from that is something to look forward to.

Did you not have a hotel room to stay in? =\

In my younger years I had been known to bring a sleeping bag/pillow in a garbage bag when sleeping in overbooked hotel rooms ;)

As for poor eating habits: I've found there are a number of foods you can bring with that are good for snacking, without resorting to living on Mountain Dew and Easy Mac all weekend... (gag)
I buy a large box of granola bars and apple sauce containers to put in my backpack while walking around the con. Find out ahead of time if your hotel has a mini-fridge you can use (make sure they aren't RFID booby trapped foods if you remove them. Or ask the hotel staff to empty the fridge for you when you check in) If you can use the fridge -- you can even bring stuff like yogurt, milk for cereal, sandwich meat/cheese, etc. Or you can even make like the Quaker Oatmeal packages using the coffee maker hot water.

Some people even bring their own microwave...

In otherwords -- there are ways you can eat fairly decently at a con. It also is WAY cheaper than eating out constantly or paying $8 for a bagel from the hotel ;)

(And more fun than starving yourself the entire weekend...)

I miss Acen already. The last day always gets me down. I always have fun Thursday - Saturday, but Sunday is the killer. I say goodbye to my friends, the laughs, the hotel I stayed at, and the lovely city of Rosemont, who has warmly welcomed us all these years. 12 months is a long wait for Acen 2011.

I'm glad I attended ACen. It'll be a few months until the next local con -- Wizard World Chicago -- which I don't find quite as interesting...

But in some ways, I had a sense of "been there, done that." I only saw a few rare character cosplays (Kuwabara from YYH, some guy from Slam Dunk, the leads from To-Love-Ru). I wasn't too interested in most panels. And though I met some other fans who were adults, I felt a bit old and out of place. So even though I'm only vaguely interested in general sci-fi/fantasy cons, I might give Windycon in Lombard a chance this fall.

My family thankfully had time to pick me up from ACen (I was tired -- I'd been walking the whole weekend). They got to see, in person, a number of fans who still wore quality cosplay even at 2 PM Sunday. I believe they were impressed. Then again, I've shown my family a few specific series which appeal to their interests as military history buffs.

I went from conversations that started with people going "OMG! Can I take your picture!?" and being treated like a celebrity to conversations that started with "Camel Lights in a box." This is depressing.

Since my group won't be doing Otakon this year, Youma's my next con... SIX MONTHS, NOOOOOOO. And worse than the lack of cons? I don't have a specific costume to work on... I'm lost without knowing what I should be making.

I went from three cons a year down to two in '08, then to just Acen last year. I've already missed Ohayocon this year but I REALLY hope get in one more this year, even if it's just a Saturday. Waiting a year in between cons sux!

Electric coolers are the bomb diggity for cons, or just use a regular cooler with the ice and/or food in high quality zipper bags to keep stuff dry when the ice melts. Also, if you're careful about it you can bring something like an electric skillet, toaster oven, Foreman grill, etc. If nothing else, Micky D's dollar menu is a few blocks down the street.

I usually get pretty bogged down when ACen ends, but this year I left feeling fairly satisfied. This last year I tried something different; instead of just doing my one con a year I went to a few cons and an expo for a day. Last year after ACen I went for a day up to Comic-Con (Wizard World Chicago) in August, after that I was good on Cons because it got the last of my ACen desires out. Then six months later when I was getting the itch again, The Chicago Auto Show came around (not really a convention in the same sense but hey it works), and then a few months after that I'm wanting ACen, and C2E2 rolled around, then right after that ACEN!

So now this year as I was leaving Rosemont I wasn't as sad as usual, because I knew I had all of that to look forward to again, and possibly even a little more!
My life is watching anime, playing video games, and eating Taco Bell with reckless abandonment with my lady!

My cosplays: Raccoon City Police Officer (Resident Evil 2 / Resident Evil 3), S.T.A.R.S. officer (Resident Evil: Apocalypse), Chris Redfield (Resident Evil), Dr. Ray Stantz (Ghostbusters), Chris Redfield (Resident Evil -CODE: Veronica- S.T.A.R.S. gear)
Plans for 2012: 10th Doctor (Doctor Who)

I'm a bit of a priss on this sort of thing. I have crazy bad back pain as it is, and I'm used to having a double bed to myself for my rolling around at night to get comfortable habits. I love my friends to bits so it's fine for the weekend, but having 3 of my friends and my mom in the room meant no bed to myself. (before this topic comes up, no, my mom's not a damper on the weekend at all. I'm 19 but can't drive, and you have to be 21 to reserve a room at the Hyatt anyway, so she's kind of necessary, and she actually really enjoys it. I don't come to Acen for sex, and mom's only real rule is that we're not allowed to deface the hotel Bible [not that I would, but one of my friends can be rather....idefk how to explain])

As for food, I probably eat better than most congoers, since I do let myself have one decent meal per day (usually ordering pizza or going to the hotel restaurant for lunch). But one decent meal + snacks is very different from three decent meals.

I'm not a congoer that deprives herself basic things to save money. I'm just a priss.

I'm feeling the Post-Con Depression. I'm also feeling the pain in my legs from wearing high heels duing the weekend.

However, I do have Fanime coming up next week. Yet, it's not the same as ACen. ;_;

The train ride back home is always so depressing. I have to say bye to all my awesome con friends and secret lovers to come back to the dingy suburbs. ;w;

I've gotten my friends hooked and they are feeling it now too. I want to meet more people next year! I absolutly adore this con. :3

While it always sucks leaving acen, I never really feel overly depressed. It's our normal lives that make Acen so much more fun. Without the normal ho-hum, Acen would just be one of those said normal days. (If everyday was like Acen.)

Now is the time to relax, check out other cons, build friendships from the last con, think of what cosplay, catch up on games, and well, live...and then whhhooops, before we all know it, Acen will be back again.
