LOL this thing is still going!?!?!?!?!?!?
My barren plan to be a better man
Rots in abandoned fields
These idle hands inherit spoiled lands
As the hungry become the pigs
We reap (and) we sow
We mourn who we were
Love what we lost

I was being sarcastic, but I stand corrected. LOL. I'll stick with my other means, but hey if it does work, kudos to those who try. Now my suggestion is if people really want to do this and not like turn this into a long series of random jokes to each other... Open a new thread?

indeed.except a new thread will just attract the same joking crowd into it.thats sort of the nature of this entire forum.

It seems like even though the forums have been the breeding grounds of many successful relationships (LinLin, Kaia, and I are a good examples of that happening...), threads like this simply do not work.

If you really must resort to deliberately choosing the internet to get your dating on, try just talking to people in threads and going to meet-ups.
PM each other. Exchange numbers. Find out what you have in common the natural way.

Besides, you can't really get to know someone through pictures and mini autobiographies people write about themselves. Nobody is going to really let you know "Oh hey besides loving videogames and being a total Evangelion fangirl I'm also crazy neurotic and have mad daddy issues" or "I'm a sensitive guy who is just looking for love with a like-minded girl, but god help her if she says or does the wrong thing, haha. I have a temper problem, you dig?".

Very true. For me, it all started with me just wanting to talk bout Final Fantasy with someone because i didn't have many friends in High School who played it.I noticed Darko did so we started to talk. I figured it would just be a 1 time thing but then we started to talk more with each other....became interested then decided to meet in person. We met at a mall and we brought our friends so it wouldn't be so awkward. I'll admit though, even before i met him in person, i fell pretty hard for him. He just sounded like such a cool guy.

To be honest, i don't really think it was this thread, it was his signature and friendly personality; he really likes to talk to new people.
We weren't looking for a relationship, it just happened, by accident. XD

This. Yeah, Meet-Up Events, talking to people on the forum via PM you think are interesting/funny on here might help you, but not likely this thread. I will admit I have used (and use) dating websites like OkCupid and I have met women through it, but that right there is a well-established websites and has millions of users while this, has a 6 month cycle of 5 guys who give it a shot, 1 girl only looking for friends, and an endless cycle of jokes like "Let's talk about the weather" or "Oh no this thread is dying, I must bump it to keep it active."

There's a reason why this is called Part 2, because Part 1 ended exactly the way this one is ending. Great idea, but poor execution in the end. An in all honesty the fact this thread has devolved to this AGAIN makes me wonder why someone hasn't taken the initiative to end it.

Not to be a jerk or anything, but....okay I'm sort of going to be a jerk. Big surprise.

But if you really need to search for love via cleverly angled pictures of yourself and boasting in "about me" sections on sites like OKCupid or even threads like this then there's probably a reason.

This reason could be:
a) You are really bored.
b )You fail at social interaction.
c) You are too lazy to go outside.
d) You have a lot of issues and nobody in their right mind who spends more than five minutes with you in person would ever consider dating you.
e) You are really successful and worldly, and don't really have time to find a partner in between doing overtime at your lucrative robotics company and saving starving children in South America.

I find that answers B, C, and D tend to cover the majority.

Kii, I disagree with your B/C/D filing of people but to each their own. Some people don't have jobs at "social times" and something like OKC can help. You can judge me all you want, but I don't think I fall under your B/C/D filing. I've explained my differences with this thread vs a dating site, so go re-read my comments if you want to know. No disrespect meant to you or anyone else here, just had to get my opinion out. Going out and socializing is better but some can use other methods (hell, people make friends on here too, does that make them socially incapable?)

Ok this thread will likely shut down soon, so everyone be confident, socialize, Take Care Spike Your Hair!!

I'm going to have to agree with STVO on this one. Sure, some people who employ the services of an online dating site might be doing so because they balk at the notion of making romantic overtures in person, but others use these websites for a plethora of alternative reasons, none of which fall under Kii's umbrella of snark. My finacee's co-worker just got married to a handsome young man who is successful and charming. They both lead active lives that don't leave much time for traditional socialization. Are they socially awkward? Not in the slightest. Quite the opposite, in fact. They're both friendly, engaging and charismatic. They just hadn't found the right person yet, and so they explored untapped resources.

Not that I have a profile on here anymore, but a response to this sounds like fun.

A, Or taking a break from working on something.
B, So what if a person is? It just sounds like nerd hate from those goofy 80s movies. Usually a good way to start something is to start small.
C, Right now, definitely. Flipping snow.
D, Maybe a difficult personality, but no baggage.
E, In a fashion... minus the monetary success part so far, switch robots to a 3-man startup where I've been writing software that should get some traction next year, and minus the South America bit, but I have at least been outside the country twice to Japan in my life so far.

Dear Thread,

You can be amusing from time to time, though you really aren't needed anymore. I just met the woman of my dreams last month at a convention, hung out with her last weekend at a meet-up, had the best date of my life earlier today with her, and I have it all to owe to actually growing a pair, developing some self-esteem, kicking my life in a direction, and getting out there to meet people in person, something which I fell back on this thread like a crutch to avoid a few years ago when I actually took it remotely seriously. Thanks for being there, you helped me meet a couple of friends, but I doubt I'll be visiting you again, ever.

Sincerely,
That Guy

Dear Thread,

You can be amusing from time to time, though you really aren't needed anymore. I just met the woman of my dreams last month at a convention, hung out with her last weekend at a meet-up, had the best date of my life earlier today with her, and I have it all to owe to actually growing a pair, developing some self-esteem, kicking my life in a direction, and getting out there to meet people in person world, something which I fell back on this thread like a crutch to avoid a few years ago when I actually took it remotely seriously. Thanks for being there, you helped me meet a couple of friends, but I doubt I'll be visiting you again, ever.

Sincerely,
That Guy

He has a huge point you know.
