I'll be there with my Nikon D40 and the standard 18-55mm lens as well as my 55-200mm. It's a lower-end DSLR, but it gets the job done. This camera is like my child. :]

Yay for more photographers coming the the meetups!

My new photography site. :D Only took a few days. The most time consuming part was trying to find some sample photos.

Thanks. I'm far from a graphic artist, but I can manage with enough time.

The design matches my business cards, although the cards I had printed don't have this new site on them (but I link to the new site from the sites on the cards).

Good luck. I'm sure you could find some website builder options out there, try your hand at learning about open-source stuff like Wordpress, or have someone make/host it for you. The last option would probably be expensive though.

HTML, CSS, and PHP are really all you need to code a good portfolio site, along with some design skills and a bit of creativity. Can do that in Photoshop and Notepad/TextEdit if you need to!

Or flickr. flickr's nice too.

Reminds me, I have to get my photography onto my website, haven't updated it since February...last year...

The way you wrote that message, you make it sound like HTML, CSS, Graphic Design, and PHP is easy for anyone. At least with you and me for example, I assume we've both been writing computer software/doing graphic design for many years. Think of it from the perspective of someone who have never seen programming code before (most of the general public). That's a large amount of skills they need built up before they realistically can do it. Not that anyone can't do it, it's all dependent on how much effort they want to put into accomplishing their goals. Way back ( ), in my first years of college I was working as a student worker in computer labs. Even HTML was a very foreign concept to many of the students I helped out.

Can't say im good at all of that type of stuff.

I use to make layouts for my old myspace, but that was all done by example.

And it only works for version 1.0
not that required crap they are forcing open people. LOL

If you can do that, you should currently be able to setup a wordpress site with some custom visual modifications. There will be some learning involved though. ;)

The paid version of Wordpress ( http://en.wordpress.com/products/ ) would probably be a good match in ease of modification and simplicity, so you don't have to deal with web-hosting directly.

I take my suggestion back. It doesn't look like the hosted version at wordpress.com can have custom themes, which would make it a lot less flexible. :( It would not hurt trying the free version and seeing though.

@ Scott. - Yeah true.
Also there were some suggestions from classmates and other photographers about websites.

i should probally look through my notes.

the main important is that i also pick out my url.

so that no one else takes it.

so far so good. :3

Wooo, glad you didn't say Flash. Nothing like shooting oneself in the "SEO foot". I really got to get my galleries in html so they rank better in google. :\

Hosting is getting pretty cheap. Also, there's some really simple photographer sites I've seen that don't use much coding at all and if you have photoshop or lightroom you can always pump out galleries through them. (Might not be the most original but least it doesn't take any coding knowledge.) Here's a simple site Ryanklos.com who uses a free viewer for his photos.

If your backend is Wordpress, there are plug-ins available. I use one called "Contact Form 7" http://contactform7.com/
It works great without any programming effort on my part.

Otherwise, it's not too difficult to write up a PHP script to email message through a web server.

Now that HTML 5 is starting to get some traction, I'll be very glad to see Flash go away.

That does look like it's pulling text directly from the flash.

On Google it shows: "Seph Victor Mercado, Chicago model photographer for fashion, glamour, boudior, lingerie and fine art nude photography. Born and raised in the Illinois, ..." which is inside the flash content and not in HTML.

All of your flash pages on the site result in one entry on Google. All of the other cached data on google is from the blog part of the site.

Realistically, your flash site is 95% images anyways, so I don't think it matters much. I'm sure the blog helps boost the rank as it provides a lot more content for Google to parse. Your flash pages would be helped by adding more page specific text though.
