I wanna get a PS3 in the future, and I love RPG games and turn-base games. THat's why I love EarthBound and Pokemon. So can you people tell all the best RPG games and Turn-base games for all the systems. Cause I wanna make a list of them all. Thank you

^I hated 9. Least memorable story of all the PSOne Final Fantasies, and in an RPG that's kinda critical. About the only thing I remember from the game is Vivi.

I'll add to the list. I'll have to check my collection when I get home too, haven't really be into RPGs too much the past couple years.

A lot of my favorites that I still play are on here, but what about FF 12, that was so much better than 9,7, 8 & 10? I would also like to add RPG Maker, I still enjoy that thoroughly.

I don't think most people are going to agree on which FF's they like and dislike. It's just a matter of opinion which ones people like more. I personally didn't enjoy FF12.

Eehhh, I really wasn't a fan of 12. It was an experiment to mix up the status quo of Final Fantasy that ended up as more of a failure IMHO. I think 13 pulled that shift off much better.

And yes, I will say that I loved 7 and could play it again to this day if I had time to do so.

No, I do in fact mean 9. You can disagree and that's fine, but there's no need to get snippy and elitist about it.

Ugh... I think we're getting off topic. Can't we just say some of us like some FF's and some of us dislike them? Like I said earlier, I don't think there's a chance anyone will ever truly agree given personal opinions on each game.

Implying this entire thread isn't going to be opinion-driven. The inherent nature of this type of thread will always elicit fanboyism of the most defensive kind... Especially when Final Fantasy is mentioned, since there are two distinct breeds of Final Fantasy fan, and two completely separate types of games which cater to each. (Those who value substance over style, and vice-versa.)

Perhaps a better thread title would be "what are your favorite RPGs" instead of "what are the best of the best." The word "best" cannot be proven objective in any way, shape, or form, whereas when the ever-subjective word "favorite" comes into play, at least everyone can be honest without insisting another man's trash is indeed factually treasure. It could potentially spawn a more civilized thread.

I thought the whole nature of this thread was to tell the TC which RPGs we thought were best and then letting them figure out on their own.

Back to the topic or I start waving around the red font.

FF always starts controversy for the RPG genre, anyone who is into gaming knows this. State your opinions in a civil manner or I will not be happy if I have to turn this :] into :[

OP asked "what are the best," not "what do you think are the best." Perhaps he worded it wrong, but in the context of those words he's basically asking for objective input in a topic where such a thing cannot exist. All is subjective 'round these 'ere parts.

"What would you recommend?" or "What are your favorites, and why?" would have sufficed. But good luck proving what's "the best" when that's impossible.

I think that's reading too much into the direct reading of the title and not most likely into the implied meaning. When I read this thread I guess I just saw the implied meaning and acted accordingly. Any other debate into this is just argument for the sake of arguing.

you liked IX?

i'd like to cosign:
final fantasy VI
Xenogears
Persona 3 & 4
Super Mario RPG
and add:
Brave Fencer Musashiden
Wild Arms (dunno about the sequels or remake, though...)
the dragonquest and breath of fire games are all worth a try, too.

i think most ff fans will either rave about VI or VII as their favorite--seven was the
most polarizing of the bunch, so yeah...the debate will never end. best for you to play each, with an
open-mind, and then decide.

Oh snap I forgot about the Tales of series. Anything that isn't that crapfest that is Legendia, FFIV, and FFIX

i totally forgot about grandia!
but, for the record, i actually agree with wrexness totally and emphatically!
i forget that IX even exists most times when thinking of the series...
vivi and beatrix were both memorable for me, and i think it had a ton of side quest or something, but overall..
nothing memorable. a pale imitation of the 16-bit glory days with a really hokey story and an art style
only halfway realized. even the battle system was good, but not distinctive to the game like the rest.
-shrugs- at least VIII tried something different and improved upon the bland anime archetypes from
VII--8 is just VII with a better story and a crappier battle system.

Nah, there's more to story than just character development (not that I remember any development in 9 either). At least 8 had time warping wizards. XD
