I wanted to help this con for quite some time. I was debating between Reg and IRT since I was involved in both of these departments for other conventions (granted it was many years ago). So I figured I would apply for Registration. I hope I can be of any assistance with ACen where ever I would be need.

After rereading the whole topic with a clear mind, another question came in the works:

If I do decide to apply and get in, would I still have to register for my ticket or would I be handed the badge(s) at the appointed time?

I still want to join so I can work off my badge and save some money but now its to early to tell if I could depending on my family and work that have rolls in making up my mind. I'm not good at planning way ahead in the future.

If you apply to be on registration and are accepted to staff, you will not need to register for a badge as you will get a staff badge at the convention.

Theres some changes being made to the comp badge policy. Once the changes take place we will let all staff members know of the updates and changes.

I just want to clear something up since we received a few applications specifically for roadshows. First year staff do not go on roadshows, we don't hire staff that only work during roadshows, etc. All staff MUST work during the convention. Pre con work is considered when looking at your 24 hours but it will only save you from 5 hours MAX of at con work. If you finish your 24 by Saturday, you're still expected to work Sunday, etc. We can't have half of the staff not working Sunday >.< 24 is the minimum not the "you no longer have to work when you hit 24!" though most shifts don't bring you past 24. It is completely up to you if you want to stay and work past your shift to be awesome! and will get you considered for higher positions, put in extra work and you will get noticed :D

I think what she meant is that while we are looking for staff, priority will be given to those who dont need rooming. We have very limited room space available. But dont fret yet as i havent even begun to look at rooming just yet and im slowly going through applications and working on staff things for 2011.

Right now though our main concern is getting registration up and running so attendees can start registering!

You're repeating the same thing that I'm confused about.

Why would PRIORITY be give the those who DON'T need something?

Priority as to who will be picked to be staff will go to those who do not need rooming.

Correct. Registration is a huge department and most of the returning staff all need rooming. People who want to staff and also need a room, will still be considered, those who want to staff and dont need a room will have priority. Its never been an issue in the past for us as far as someone needing a room, but it is something we need to mention.

For example, I dont want to hire 20 people who all need rooming when i only have 10 rooming spots available. Thats just not going to work. That is what we mean by priority given to those who dont need a room.

I hope that explains it a little better and as I said before, it hasnt been an issue in the past, but things could change.

Question. A friend of mine who has staffed for a long time just told me that first year staffers dont get rooming. Is this accurate?

I suppose it would depend on the department. Last year i gave rooming to first year staffers who needed it. We do our rooming a little differently than other departments so most of their rooming slots do indeed go to vet staffers. Thats not exactly the case with registration.

Years you've attended ACen - (this is just for reference, it has no baring on if we select you)
Why you want to become staff - (please give more than a few words This does have a baring on if we select you)
Do you need rooming -
Will you be available from Thursday 11am to Sunday 4pm? - (For some we do accept Friday as we know it's sometimes hard to get off work for Thursday but we can only accept this for a handful of people since Thursday we need staff )

You can email it to registration@acen.org

As for the date for doing interviews, that is to be determined. I might just do phone interviews for now seeing as I no longer have a vehicle to use to get to meetings and such for the time being. I will email people individually to set up interviews when it comes time to do that.

No they do not. Everyone stays on staff unless told their services are no longer needed and we finished sending out that email months ago :) We will be sending out a new staff list form soonish though so watch your email :)

nothing :D you are still on staff, we do not fire and rehire staff anymore (that stopped like 3 years ago) If you did not get a reg staff mailing list email in the past week send me your full name and email so I can make sure you're on it :)

Fair notice to those applying
- We have not received any more applications for our open management positions from within our current staff. Please consider how dedicated and involved with the department you would like to be. Management means a few more meetings a year and lots of fun! We will be asking every applicant how they would feel about moving up in our department over the years, being more involved, etc. You will not be disqualified for not wanting to be management but we do need future management so at least 5 of our slots are reserved for staff who want to be more involved throughout the year and don't mind a little responsibility. No position is overwhelming and the department head (me) is always here to help my staff. No manager will ever be given work they can't handle :). If you have any questions or want to talk with me more about management feel free to pm me and I will reply ASAP :)
