We normally hire right up to con because of drop outs at the last minute (5-10 this year who warned us >.<) So never say it's too late to apply, I'd prolly even hire people at con considering how short we were this year with no shows for shifts.

sign up for registration! it's a blast! and you get to meet lots of cool people! i honestly was super surprised not that many people showed up/people dropped because it's such a win-win situation. of course there were problems and, yeah, people got mad, but you got to meet so many people and see so many costumes and...

seriously. sign up. you won't regret it.

that said... i really hope you guys keep my file for next year because i seriously had SO much fun on registration and met a ton of awesome people! (:

Just a little FYI

If you staffed this past year, you're on staff for next year. There is no firing. You are always on staff unless you resign, do something that warrants you to be kicked off staff or you were one of the people who decided they werent going to show up :-D (not saying you specifically but you get the idea)

I want to do this so much, but my younger sister is coming with me...Even though she's 16...When it comes to stranges she doesn't know what, "Stranger, Danger!" mean. We tend to hire right up to the convention because of last second drop outs so if you find out close to con you can probably still get on staff :) (we were allowed to hire at con this year, no guarantee next year)

Some of our staff cosplays while on duty. The only requirement to cosplaying on duty is that you are able to easily move around in your cosplay and that its not bulky and gets in the way.. other than that you are more than welcome to cosplay :-D

Reg is still looking for more applications! We have a decent number of openings due to removal of staff by management and we're looking for some rocking dedicated people for this year!

We are now doing online live stream training along with in person so it doesn't matter where in the country/world you live! We offer rooming for all staff who need it! Shifts are 3-6 hours each, if you don't want to handle money you can request a position that doesn't BUT the majority of our positions are cashier. Training requires staff to read a 20ish page book which explains positions, jobs, policies and procedures with a short FAQ page and to learn how to use our registration system which is being revamped to be more user friendly both on staff and attendee sides.

If you are out of state we can use live stream to walk you step by step through our system and answer any questions you have via skype or phone. We added a 5th assistant dept. head this year who will be dedicated to staff training and making sure all staff are comfortable with what they are doing :) New and current staff may email him at any time if you have ANY question, any scenario you're curious about, anything you thought you should have been trained on last year during training (for former staff), any ideas to better our training, etc.

Please email Registration@ACen.org if you are interested or have any questions :D We ask that if you do apply please want to do work. Staff who complain about 2 hours of work to other staff bring down the mood and upbeat feeling of reg. ACen has a gopher volunteer program for those who don't want to work shifts :)

3-6 hour shifts 1-2 times a day from Thursday to Sunday to add up to the staff mandatory 24 hours
Food and rooming + badge provided to staff.
The BEST benefit package we can find out of any volunteer convention with comp(free badges to hand out) badges given to staff, room, food, year long events! :pirate2:

Ive just been kind of enjoying my summer. Im glad that people are so excited to work with us next year though. :-D

I do plan on settling down and getting into the swing of things in the next couple weeks, so be patient and be on the look out then :-D

I do have everyones emails saved that has sent in applications over the last couple months so theres no need to fret about it getting lost :-D

Being shy is normal :D I was super shy my first year on ACen staff and now I know most of the staff of over 500 people >.>

Sounds interesting I would sign-up for it so I can meet new people, get free room and food, some badges and be part of something. However so many questions pop in my head like:

Would I have to work every day for the duration of Acen?
Can I choose my work schedule to fit my needs?
What kind of training will I need?
Do I need to meet any requirements?
What if I like my own room with my friends?

Is there any way I can get more information so I know what I'm possibly signing up for? I would like to know more on this topic so it won't interfere with school and my personal life.

Yes, it would be 6 hours a day for 4 days. You can ask for 4 one day and 8 the next, etc. But we do need staff to do at least 1 shift a day. You can also ask for time off during your favorite event, swap shifts with staff, etc.

What kind of training will I need?

You will receive training according to your position. We have a handful of "management" positions like cashier supervisor so they would receive more training than a cashier. But assuming it was a general staff position...
You would learn how to check for counterfeit bills and how to work our registers by our finance staff. We have training in the ACen office for cashiers and for use of the reg system. There will be training sessions but we can also do one on one sessions with anyone who can't make it to the staff training date. Also for those out of state we are now using a live stream program and can walk you through each process step by step on the computer. And finally, most of my staff know I have a horrible memory and I don't expect anyone else to have perfect memories so at each payment station, will call station, etc will be small 1-3 page packets on each scenario with step by step instructions with screen shots on how to do them. We also have a team of cashier supervisors and management constantly patrolling stations to make sure staff know and are comfortable with what they are doing.

Do I need to meet any requirements?

You need to be 18 years old by con.
be able to be at reg by 7:30am, this does not mean you have a morning shift it means it's possible you could have a morning shift.
Cashiering skills are nice but not necessary but we do give cashier slots to those with skills first.
People skills. Not everyone is super friendly in the morning but at least be able to fake it :) We had rude staff this year and they were quickly removed. Customer service is a high priority :)

What if I like my own room with my friends?

Staff rooms are staff only and single gender rooms are restricted to only that gender (by request of staff). We won't stop you from rooming with your friends :) but friends cannot visit staff rooms.

During the year we have multiple meetings and reg parties/badge assembly at the ACen office and Hyatt. No meeting is mandatory. Only ACen is mandatory :) We encourage and welcome staff to participate year long though. Reg tends to be once a month from December to February. And twice a month from then to ACen. These are usually held on Saturdays. If you can make one out of all of our meetings it would be awesome but we only have a handful of staff come to them.

Will the training start right after being hired, or is there a specific time closer to con it starts?

And when you start hiring people, will the newer people be able to help with roadshows and/or shipping out the badges? [I'd love to help with sending them out. Getting your badge in the mail is like when a kid opens presents from Santa on Christmas! Also, if I do manage to go to a few extra cons this year I'd be happy to help out the roadshows if I can.]

There will be set training days probably after the new year starts. Any registration staff is able to help with badge mailing. As for road shows its easier on us if its registration management or veterans who do them as there are alot of registration type questions being asked and we are more apt to give the correct answers to the attendees. We dont want the wrong information being told to potential new attendees.

The people in Reg are really some of the nicest people. This year I didn't have my badge mailed and the people were nice enough to direct me where to go to get it. I've sent an app just to see if I can help people in the same way.

Just wondering since im in a different state ....(if/when) i get the accepting email of being on the Registration team/group would i be able to start training through the online program that Bloo was talking about right after the next year starts?
