Made me think of two questions:

1. Why on nick and not on CN or even adult swim?

2. Why is it Dragonball "Z" Kai instead of Dragonball Kai?

Because it looks like its a condensed version of Dragonball Z.

Condensed, remastered, etc. It follows the manga much more closely and supposedly cuts down on the major complaints of the original (namely taking 8 episodes to go super saiyan and such). Haven't seen it myself yet though.

dragonball z aired on NETWORK television in its original runs.
ANY cable network will allow for more leeway than a network tv
station these days. what i'm say is, it's better there than saturdays on
the cw or fox or whatever channel airs kamen raider and yugioh reruns
now.

eventually anime fans are just going to have to accept that there isn't a
toonami anymore. most anime that gets aired on tv is going to be on nick,
disney, or not at all. =\

Should I watch this or not? I mean I saw what happened when they condensed Death Note (DN: Rewrite) and I wasn't a huge fan of that.

I've heard mixed reviews of Kai. It's not super condensed like the Death Note ReLight films but the plot progresses much faster than the original. Like I think Raditz dies in like Episode 2 or so. They mainly cut out all that filler stuff like Garlic Jr.

Well it's kool to watch if you never seen Dragon Ball Z or if you don't like fillers it's good to watch. Btw Garlic Jr. was a filler Saga lol

Actually, they should just end it after episode 16. Then DN would have been perfect. lol

If I remember somewhat correctly, Funi's reasoning behind placing "Z" in the logo and calling it Dragon Ball Z Kai is to reach out to fans that are familiar to DBZ, but aren't familiar to Kai.

Dragonball Z only got really popular when it was put on Cartoon Network (and more specifically Toonami) which by the mid-90s fairly standardly appeared in basic cable TV packages. At this point, Nicktoon Network is hit-and-miss as to what packages have it. I would've preferred it be on a channel that was more standardly included in cable packages. :/

Though they have the same characters, there's no doubt that the original is WAY different from Z, and they should be treated as different series. I think Funimation actually got this one right.

Okay yeah I saw the advertise on nicktoons station while i was watching Avatar Last Airbender tonight after work and I was like aaaaWHHHHHHAATTTTT....O_o *tableflip*

It really sucks how cartoon network is driving away from anime that they are missing out on opportunities like this. Still as they pointed out on Adult Swim 'King of the Hill' has triple the viewers then 'Bleach' but they are not considering the difference in time slots that make it like that. I know being a college kid with classes at 7 am I am not so willing to stay up past one in the morning to watch it on Adult Swim. Still Dragon Ball Z was truely my first Anime and I will watch it where ever it plays.

they're also not considering that 'bleach' sucks and 'king of the hill' is actually entertaining.

This is true. Contrary to popular opinion, anime geeks do occasionally have lives and will be out Saturday nights (the only day with anime now). You wonder why they're having so many issues with ratings? There's yer problem.

Though that initially aired on Nickelodeon, which has pretty wide coverage. Nicktoons network has comparatively low reach. I'd rather it be on a network that's on most basic cable channels to increase its fanbase and create more anime fans. \o/

I only have an issue with it being on Nick because CN was its home for so long.
Really, I'd rather it be on Nick seeing how CN is now.
The only thing keeping me on CN (in the AM) is KND after school, Chowder, Flapjack and Adventure Time and any reruns of The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy (wteffinghell happened to this show???) and Ed, Edd & Eddy.
Really, as long as it's a show from the 90s-early 2000s, I'll watch it.

Oh, and there's another that changed networks.
Adventure Time orignally aired on "Oh Yeah! Cartoons" on Nickelodeon ages ago.
They also changed the main guy's name...
IMO, the pilot episode was better than what they've come up with, but I'm waiting to get a feel for it.

Yeah, but Nick killed IZ and Jhonen just hates it now.
I feel bad for him, they ruined what could've been an awesome thing :C
All it is now is this overplayed, tween-loved show that is being killed by its fandom.

I guess, as long as you ignore the creeps, IZ is still enjoyable.
