Alice In Wonderland

The movie was way too fast-paced. They could have added at least another 20 minutes to the movie. They had little to no background on the characters. I'm assuming Tim Burton assumed those who are going to see this movie have seen some sort of version of Alice in Wonderland or at least the original Disney version. I was hoping for background information on the White and Red Queen (especially since people confuse her and the Queen of Hearts and well, Tim Burton smashed the Duchess, Red Queen and Queen of Hearts into one character) and a few other characters. At least those who weren't in the original Disney film and were in the book. Even though I already know a lot about Alice in Wonderland, it would have been nice to have added that in the movie. And the Dormouse was a girl and not a boy. That made me want to cry. The story reminded me of American McGee's Alice and The Looking Glass Wars. ESPECIALLY American McGee's Alice.
The cast was really good. I really enjoyed Anne Hathaway's performance as the White Queen and Helena Bonham Carter as the Red Queen. Paul Whitehouse as the March Hare was the best hands down.
It wasn't Tim Burton's best film, Johnny Depp was more annoying than entertaining, Cheshire Cat had very little screen time, the ending sucked SO BAD and the only thing that really made the movie awesome was the March Hare. He was the character that made the movie. I loved him.

I wasn't going to see it in 3D at first ... decided at the last minute to upgrade my ticket - and I'm glad I did
I have to go again, There was so much to see at once, you really couldn't take it all in - not that it detracted from the story flow - it didn't. it simply BEGS to be seen again & again. I suspect that's the genius behind 3D.
The textures .... the costumes ... the make-up ... the imaginative scenery pull you in - the characters connect between fantasy and reality ... well, some are clearly recognizable -- some are more of a suggestion. While the story was a bit predictable, it really wasn't a problem for me. After all, how many watched Titanic and loved it - even knowing how it would end?
Alice in Wonderland is a time worn tale - loved by many -- I really think this will become a classic as well for it's a lovely rendition of the beloved classic
Oh, and for sure, I know at least one garment I'm making myself to wear!
Movies like this are like a good marriage -- you love your spouse, you know every day you do ... then they go and do something that reminds you all over again just why they've captured your heart.

It's nice to see someone actually thought it was wonderful. I think it should have been more dark because Alice in Wonderland isn't a fluffy story with sunshine and rainbows. The book isn't catered toward kids even though many people think it does. I thought Tim Burton was going to make it dark since he does make quite a few dark movies, but it was bright and colorful. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't my cup of tea.
I'll just see snippets of the movie when I work. That's as far as I'll go to seeing the movie again.
This movie won't be going on my shelf as tempted as I am to buy it when it comes out on DVD to add to my Alice in Wonderland collection.

Wait, it wasn't that dark?.... I'm surprised Lina xD
I might go check it out for myself once the weekend mad rush is over.
I am a very big fan of Anne Hathaway and I am happy to hear that she gave a good performance. So yay <3

For me, i knew this movie was getting a lot of hype, and i knew that the hype for it was probably going to just bring people down, so i tried not to get too excited for it. I'm glad i did that, because if i would have been like "homg this is going to be incredibly awesome!!" i would have been let down.
As a person who only knows what was in the disney version of the movie, i agree that some background on characters would have been nice. I had no idea who the white queen was, but i just decided to forget that and go with the flow, as the movie was fairly predictable and easy to follow, despite not knowing what her background was.
I got quite a few laughs out of it, and was kind of happy when we got less johnny depp than what the previews showed.
I lovveeddd the march hare in this! He was by far my favorite character and probably one of the best done IMO. Much better than the johnny depp hype going around. And don't get me wrong, i love johnny depp, but the hype for him as the mad hatter in this movie almost made me NOT want to go see it. Plus his acting in this movie, while good, reminded me all to much of drunk jack sparrow. Burton needs to give depp a rest and try some other actors out, at least that's what i'd like to see.
the movie also seemed kind of fast paced, but for me, i'd rather have a movie seem like it went by too fast than too slow.
while this seems like i'm bashing the movie, i'm really not! I liked it and would gladly rent it with friends in 2d (because really, the 3d effects just distracted me rather than add to the story). It kept me entertained which is what movie's main goals are, and by the end of the night, i didn't really know what my opinion of it was, but i've finally come to the conclusion that it's a very watchable movie if you are wanting to get entertained, but if you are going in there expecting something great, you might be getting out of the movie disappointed.

Disney's Alice in Wonderland is NOT the original Alice in Wonderland. I suggest reading the book. Disney cut out characters that were in the book that were in this movie. Disney's version does a nice job though. My favorite Disney movie.
Patty, it was not that dark at all. I was expecting more of a Sweeny Todd-like darkness, but it was more like Willy Wonka with a dash of darkness.

So, despite this PROBABLY being a Generation's first exposure to Alice in Wonderland, they assume everyone knows everything.... I haven't read the book in years, and only saw the Disney version as a small child. But the thing I was worried about was not NECESSARILY this, but the fact that Alice is an Outsider. I was worried that, when I heard they were going the sequel route, they would make references to something that are in one source material (i.e. the book or the movie) but not in the other.... And that Alice would be able to handle the chaos like a pro. Even from the trailers, she seems to at ease with the situation.
I have little hopes for this movie, but at the same time, I am REALLY hoping I am gone. Alice in Wonderland by a crazy artist like Burton? I'm intrigued. Tim Burton's disapponted me ALOT in the past, but still made some of my favorite flicks.

I however, enjoyed it...BUT...seeing it in 3D gave me a headache X____X. The make-up that was done for each of the main(-ish) characters made me giddy like a school girl (I will be experimenting with that ^____^)

Because a lot of people can't seem to get Alice in Wonderland right, I never expect Alice in Wonderland movies to be great. Some movies portray Alice in Wonderland better than others and do a great job, but they leave out some great characters like the Mock Turtle and the Griffin and the Jabberwocky and they usually, if not always make the Red Queen and the Queen of Hearts the same character when they are entirely different.
Maybe if I weren't so obsessed with Alice in Wonderland, I would have enjoyed this more. lol
